Part 14 ~ Experience

Patrick hung up the phone in confusion. Mac had called to persuade Patrick to encourage Robin to accept his dinner invitation. It seemed that Robin refused to sit at the same table as Robert and Kelly. Since this was the first time Patrick had heard this news, he was confused by Robin's actions. As he laid Emma down in her crib, he heard Robin enter the house.

"Hey," she said cheerfully. "Did I miss Emma? Is she already asleep?"

"Yes, she just dozed off."

"Awww," Robin said disappointed. "They are doing construction on Route 15 and the detour took me half a mile out of the way." She walked over to Patrick and hugged him around his waist. "But at least you're still up." As she looked up at him, she saw a perplexed look across his brow. "What?"

"Your uncle called."

"Really?" she said as she moved away. "What did he want?"

"He wanted you to reconsider your decision to decline his dinner invitation."

"There is nothing to reconsider."

"Robin, what is going on? "

"I refuse to sit at the table and act like I approve of my dad's relationship with Kelly."

"Fair enough, but this isn't about your dad. This is about Mac and whatever news he has to tell us."

"I'm sure Maxie will fill me in," Robin pouted.

"Ok." Patrick said, "Listen, Mac has always been there for you. He's asking you to be there for him on this one night. Are you telling me that after all these years, you're going to pull a spoiled brat act and deny him this one request?"

"I am not acting like a spoiled brat."

"Really?" Patrick challenged "Then what would you call it? It is definitely not a sign of a mature woman. Your father is having a relationship with Kelly. He's happy. What is the problem?"

"The problem is," Robin hesitated, "Kelly is just too much for him."

"Too much?"

"Kelly has," Robin paused searching for the right words, "a lot of experience. She's not someone that I want my father spending his future with."

"Wow! Not only are you a spoiled brat, you're also a snob," Patrick chuckled.

"I'm not a snob. You know what kind of reputation Kelly has, this is not a surprise."

"I also had a reputation, but I don't remember your father demanding that you stop seeing me. I think it is a little hypocritical for you to bring up Kelly's reputation. Listen," Patrick said as he walked to Robin and planted a small kiss on her lips, "Mac shouldn't have to suffer because of your dislike of your father's girlfriend."

"She is not his girlfriend," Robin said as she kissed Patrick, "but you're right. I'll call Mac and tell him that we'll be there."

"Don't worry. I told him we'd be bringing dessert."

"Well, it seems that you're real confident in your ability to get me to change my mind."

"I knew that if logic didn't do it," he smiled, "my kisses would. There are benefits to having a lot of experience." Before she could reply, he kissed her and before she knew it, Robin's only thought was loving Patrick.
