Part 12 ~ Disapproving

Balancing coffee in one hand and files in the other, Kelly struggled to open her office door. If it had been anybody else, Kelly would have called security but finding Robin sitting in her office was no big concern.

"Robin? Did we have a meeting?"

"Exactly what do you think you're doing?"

Bewildered, Kelly placed the files on her desk. "I must be missing something. What's going on?"

"That's what I should be asking you." Robin sneered. "My father is recovering from cancer. He should be resting, not entertaining you."

Kelly let out a sigh. Robert called her last night to warn her of Robin's concern. "Robin, I can promise you that your father is in great condition. He received a clean bill of health from the oncologist. Just think of it this way," she joked. "If anything should happen, he'll have a doctor right by his side."

"I'm glad you find humor in this situation," Robin barked. "But I only have one father, and I'd like to keep him around as long as I can."

"Hey." Kelly turned serious. "Dr. Rutherford is one of the best oncologists in the hospital. I promise you that your dad is in the best of health. He still needs to watch his diet and keep his scheduled appointments, but your father takes his health very seriously."

"Really? I would have never guessed by his behavior, running around like he's 20."

"He is not running around," Kelly interrupted. "He's a grown man, Robin. He doesn't need you approval."

"What he does need," Robin found her voice rising, "is someone who is going to look out for him even when he has his clothes on."

The message was clear to Kelly, and she found that she couldn't keep her anger at bay. "So this isn't about your father enjoying himself. This is about your father enjoying himself with me."

Robin didn't reply, but her smug expression confirmed Kelly's statement.

"What? I'm not good enough for your father?"

"I didn't say that, you did." Robin smirked "All I know is that I want you to stop seeing my father."

"This may shock you, but it isn't always about what you want. I'll see your father whenever and wherever I want, and guess what? There's nothing you could do about it."

"We'll see about that," Robin warned. Turning on her heels, Robin left, slamming the door behind her.
