Part 6 ~ Birth and Rebirth

"Tiramisu?!" Sonny exclaimed as Layla brought the dessert to the table.

"I just wanted to celebrate all of the accomplishments you've made. Taking physical therapy lessons twice a day and exercising on your own proved to be instrumental in your recovery." Layla smiled at Sonny as she cut into the dessert. "If I was a betting woman, I'd say that you'll be taking your first steps in a few months."

"And if you were a betting woman, I'd challenge your 'few months' and I'd change that to a few weeks." Sonny smiled at her as she placed a slice of tiramisu in front of him. He was so handsome, she thought. His skin had tanned since he started taking his therapy sessions outdoors. Although his wavy hair was as dark as ever, there were hints of silver hair gathering at his temples; signaling that Sonny survived a lot, and Layla knew that he would survive these injuries too. His smile showed off straight white teeth that were often overlooked because of his deep-set dimples. His dimples were so deep that it made Layla want to touch them to see if they were real.

She chuckled at his statement. "If I may, can I ask why such a burst of determination."

"You mean working on my physical therapy twice a day?" He asked, continuing when he saw her nod." I promised my boys, and my best friend is getting married in a few months. I want to be at that wedding; standing."

"That's a great reason to get back on your feet. I want to see pictures of you standing during the ceremony."

"You won't need a picture." Sonny said as he sampled the dessert. "You are going to be there with me." When Layla started to protest, Sonny continued "You're my nurse right? I need someone who can be there in case," he shrugged. "You know....my legs get tired. Plus, you're one hell of a beautiful woman. Having a beautiful woman that is smart and dependable by my side, what man wouldn't be envious?"

"Hmmm... Maybe the groom," Layla giggled.

"Yeah, maybe the groom," Sonny agreed, flashing his dimples.

They finished their dessert in comfortable silence. Sonny had no doubt that the next time he stepped foot in Port Charles, he'd be stronger than ever.

The tiny defiant squeal was the greatest sound that Jax ever heard.

"It's a girl." Kelly announced.

"It's a girl," Jax repeated to Carly. In her exhaustion, Carly managed a faint smile and nodded. "Is she ok?" Carly whispered. Just then, the nurse brought the baby to Carly.

"She's perfect." Jax answered as he watched his wife and daughter become acquainted. As the tears gathered in his eyes, he kissed his wife on the lips and planted a tiny kiss on his daughter's forehead.
