Part 5 ~ Chance

After reading the prenup, Mac's first reaction was to throw it into the garbage, instead he flung it onto the coffee table and watched as it slid to the edge, teetered for a second and fell to the floor. Alexis had some nerve, Mac thought. She wanted him to sign a document that forbids him from seeking sole custody should he ask her for a divorce. Walking over to the fallen document, Mac picked it up and skimmed it again. If this is how she wanted to start a marriage, he'd make sure he stated a few of his own demands. Mac smiled to himself as he picked up the phone and called his lawyer.

"Did you see this?" Alexis barked as she entered Diane's office. Before Diane could reply, Alexis slapped the document down in front of a seated Diane and continued to rant "Mac's lawyer had this dropped off at my office. Read it. Go ahead, read it." 

"Ok," Diane said cautiously. As she went to reach for the document, Alexis snapped it up and rolled it into a scroll and started slapping it on the edge of Diane's desk. 

"I'll tell you what it says. He actually has a quota on sex. Sex!" she screamed. "If I withhold physical contact with him for more that 30 days, he can file for divorce. If I am found to be in an adulterous affair, he not only can file for divorce but seek sole custody. Sole Custody!" as she said those last words the scroll flew out of her hand, papers falling across Diane's office like snowflakes.

"Alexis, calm down."

"Calm down? The man is blackmailing me into having sex. Is that even legal?"

"Alexis," Diane said calmly. "What is the problem. I thought the sex was good."

"It is good. Actually it's great but just because I'm married doesn't mean that he owns my body."

"Maybe this is his response to our prenup document."

"This is how he responds?! Well let's add on to our document."

"Wait" Diane demanded. "Is this really the way you want to start a marriage? Why don't you forget about the prenups and just take a chance?"

"Why, because I don't want to get hurt again. This time I want forever," Alexis thought. Giving Diane a slight smile, she promised to call her later and left her office.

The last person Mac expected to see at his door was Alexis. As she rocked from one foot to the other, he could tell that she didn't want to be there.

"Can we talk?" she asked.

Instead of giving her an answer, he moved from the open door to allow her to enter.

"I'm not going to sign your prenup," she said flatly.

"And I won't be signing yours," Mac answered. When she didn't respond, he added, "So what do we do now?"

"We take a chance." She whispered.
