Part 8 ~ Debt

"I wasn't expecting to see you back here."

With the back of her hand, Maxie wiped a tear from her cheek. She wasn't sure what she was doing sitting on this particular park bench. This is where she would come to remember her dead sister. Unlike people in Port Charles, some habits never die.

"I was just thinking," Maxie said as she clutched a stack of photos, "about all the times I sat here wishing that Georgie was alive."

"She is alive," Johnny stated as he took a seat next to her.

"Technically," Maxie agreed, "but she is far from the sister I remember."

"Not many people are given a second chance to be with someone they lost."

"I know and I feel like such an ungrateful brat, but," Maxie looked down at the stack of photos. "I can't make her remember me. It just hurts so badly. I wasn't always the best sister, but I thought we were close."

"She hasn't been home that long. Wait and see. One day she is going to smell something, hear something, or see someone who is going to bring back all of her memories."

"What did you say?"

"I said that you need to give it some time. She'll start to remember."

"No, that's not what you said. You said that a smell or something would trigger her memory." Maxie reached out for Johnny's hand. "Say it again, exactly like you said it before."

Hearing the desperation in her voice, Johnny repeated himself. "She hasn't been home that long. Wait and see. One day she is going to smell something, hear something, or see someone who is going to bring back all of her memories."

She all but leaped into his lap with excitement. Kissing him firmly on his cheek, she smiled at him and said, "You're a genius. If this works, I'm going to be in your debt."

"Well then," Johnny smiled slowly, "Maybe I should start collecting now." As he shifted her small frame securely on his lap, he expected her to struggle. As he moved his lips lightly over hers, he expected her to scream. But as Maxie leaned in to deepen the kiss, stroking the back of his neck with her fingers, Johnny never expected to fall for her so quickly. Stopping the kiss abruptly, he shifted a surprised Maxie off his lap.

Standing quickly, he glanced down at her. "I'll let you know when I'll collect the rest."

As he walked away, Maxie could feel her pulse quicken. She didn't know if it was from the idea forming in her head or the thought of having Johnny finish what he started. Biting her lower lip, Maxie knew that this was one debt she was looking forward to paying off.
