Part 14 ~ Deal

"Yes.  I know. I will. I miss them too. Have Jax call me with the flight plans. Yes. Ok. Bye" Sonny listened to Carly hang up the phone, and although she wasn't on the other end of the line, Sonny continued to hold the phone to his ear. He wasn't ready to see Morgan and Michael, at least not yet. After a few more seconds of deep thought, Sonny placed the cordless phone on the table.

"Penny for your thoughts," Sam said as she entered the patio. "Is everything ok?"

Sonny lifted his head to find Sam standing next to the patio table. She would have looked lovely in her plum-colored shorts and white halter top, but the bags under her eyes told a story of someone haunted by her past.

"Yes," he answered. "It was Carly."

"Oh, that explains it," Sam scoffed as she poured herself a glass of orange juice.

"Give it a break!"

"What's bothering you? If you and Carly are at odds, don't take it out on me."

"Carly and I are not at odds. She's going to send the boys here for spring break."

"And you don't know how to explain that you fired your physical therapist. Yeah, I can see how that could be tough."

"Are you serious? You are going to comment on my life while you are out here hiding from the world." Sonny defended, "You can't even call your family and tell them where you are. What, are you scared?" he mocked.

Sam was silent. She was scared. There was no lying about that. After all of her struggles to get pregnant when she was with Jason, how could she terminate this pregnancy? She knew in her heart that she was going to keep her baby, but how could she expect anyone to understand her reasoning.

Watching her spirits sink, Sonny said quietly "I'm sorry. I'm just...." He paused "I'm just nervous that the boys will be disappointed with me. I promised them I would get therapy. I've never broken a promise to them before."

"You don't have to now. Hire another physical therapist and a nurse."

"How? I believe my reputation as a bad patient preceeds me."

"Why don't you hire someone from Port Charles? They would at least be familiar with your name and reputation. They would know exactly what they were getting into."

He had to do something and Sam's plan seemed as good as any. He wasn't going to let her off the hook that easy. "I'll hire a nurse and therapist if you call Alexis. Deal?"

Sam listened to the soft waves. Alexis probably wouldn't answer anyway. "Deal"

Alexis looked down at her cell phone. Sonny was calling. Maybe he wanted to speak to Kristina.

"Sonny?" Alexis said into the phone.

"No it's me, Sam."

"Sam," Alexis said. Sam was surprised to hear relief in her voice. "Where have you been? Oh, never mind. I know where you are now. Are you ok?"

"Yes, I'm fine. I just wanted to let you know that I'm ok. I also need to tell you something."

"I need to tell you something first," Alexis countered.

"This is really important."

"So is this."

There was a long pause as each waited for the other to speak.

"I'm pregnant," They said at the same time.

"What!?" They both screamed into the phone.  Alexis started to laugh at the irony of the situation.

"I'm pregnant," Alexis said in a rush. "I didn't plan it, but I decided to keep the baby. I know it will take some time to get used to the idea, but I'm hoping you will support me in my decision."

"And I'm hoping you'll support me in my decision. I'm really scared."

"So am I," Alexis said softly.

They spent the remainder of the early evening talking about their fears and hopes. Alexis told Sam about Mac's response, and Sam shared her fear that she would be condemned for keeping Diego's baby.

When Sonny passed by the living room, he could hear Sam on the phone with Alexis. Sam kept her end of the deal. Tomorrow, he would keep his end of the deal.
