Winter of Resentment
Part 13 ~ Expectations
by Kimberly 7/7/08
"I would say I am surprised to see you, but I'd
be lying." Carly's words were filled with hatred.
"I just came here to talk to Sonny before he
left for his island."
"What could you possibly have to say to
Sonny?"
Sam let out a sigh. She expected Carly to
think the worst. "I just wanted to thank Sonny for saving my life."
"As usual, you think too much of yourself.
Sonny was there to kill Diego, you just happened to be around." Carly
smirked. "Do not think that Sonny was on his way to save you. If you are
looking for your knight in shining armor, you won't find him here."
"Is it so hard for you to believe that I just
wanted to say thank you?"
"Frankly, yes!" Carly walked over to the
front door and opened it. "But if it makes you feel any better, I'll lie and
tell you that I'll give him your message."
Carly held the door open, letting Sam know
that her visit had ended. Sam walked through the door and heard it slam
behind her. If Carly wouldn't give Sonny her message, she would have to find
another way to contact him.
"Wow, Daddy, you look handsome," Tracey
commented as she poured herself a cup of coffee.
"Thank you, Tracey." Edward straightened his
tie. He stood slowly and made his way to the door.
"Where are you going?"
Edward turned and displayed a wicked grin.
"Oh, I'm going to see my lawyer to update my will. While I'm at it, I'll be
looking into Alan's will. There seems to be a discrepancy with his latest
signature. If Alan's will has been tampered with, I intend to persecute the
offenders."
Tracey gulped the coffee, causing it to burn
the back of her throat. Before she could respond, Edward was already out of
the house and headed towards the car. She never expected to face this
dilemma without Luke. For the first time in years, she was on her own.
Jax watched Carly as she slept on the couch.
Although she wouldn't admit it, packing up Sonny's house was too much for
her to handle. Jax was concerned about the baby, but he knew that if he
asked her to stop she would have been even more determined to exert herself.
The front door opened quickly, startling Carly out of her sleep. Michael ran
up the stairs and slammed the bedroom door behind him.
"Michael?!" Carly shouted as she struggled to
sit upright on the couch.
"Don't bother," Jason said calmly as he
entered the house with a sleeping Morgan in his arms. "He's mad at Sonny for
leaving, but he has to work this out for himself."
As Jax reached out for Morgan, Jason gently
transferred the sleeping child into Jax's arms "He cried himself to sleep."
Jason whispered.
Jax nodded in acknowledgement and started up
the stairs.
Carly gave Jason a warm smile. "Thanks for
taking the boys to the airport to see Sonny."
"No problem." Jason glanced at the stairs.
"Michael's mad at Sonny, me, the world. Maybe you should let him spend the
summer with Sonny. Then he can see that Sonny's move was the best thing that
could happen. Morgan, well..." Jason shrugged helplessly. "Morgan's just too
young to understand. It is going to take him a while to adjust."
"I know. It is going to take them some time
to get used to the idea that their dad is not 20 minutes away."
"Well, Morgan is still asleep, and Michael is
pretending to be asleep," Jax said as he made his way down the stairs. As
Jax made his way towards Carly, he watched Jason look intensely at Carly.
"What? What is it, Jason?"
Jason remained silent for a few seconds which
seemed like minutes to Carly.
"You're frightening me!" Jax could hear the
panic in her voice.
"I need to tell you something, but I just
want you to remain calm. Can you do that?"
"Maybe this can wait until later. Carly's
condition is too fragile." Jax suggested.
Jason nodded and turned toward the door.
"No, I need you to tell me. Otherwise, I'll
just call Spinelli, or Max, or Diane. Just tell me. I promise to remain
calm."
Jason and Jax's expression clearly displayed
that they didn't believe her.
"I will remain calm. I promise." She leaned
back against Jax.
Jason took a deep breath and quickly said, "I
asked Liz to marry me, and she said yes."
The room fell silent. After a few minutes,
Carly stood, walked over to Jason and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Congratulations. Did you set a date?"
"Not yet."
Good, Carly thought. This will give her
enough time to find a way to stop the wedding. "It's been a long day. I'm
going to take a shower and get some sleep. I'm glad you told me the news."
Without turning back, she walked slowly up the stairs.
When she was out of sight, Jax and Jason
looked at each other. They both knew that this was unusual for Carly. What
they didn't know was what to expect next.
