Winter of Resentment
Part 9 ~ Words
by Kimberly 4/19/08
As Jason watched Liz walk
back to the nurse's station, he wasn't sure if he should be happy or
worried. He needed to tell her about his new role in the organization.
He was smart enough not to discuss it at the hospital, and they made
plans to meet at the safe house for a late dinner. Lulu had offered to
babysit Jake and Cam for the night, stating that she was bored. Liz,
however, had her suspicions that Lulu was trying to keep herself
occupied in order to forget Johnny. No matter what her motive was, Liz
was not about to pass on the offer. Jason was hoping that Liz would
still want to be with him, even in his new role.
For the moment, Jason let
his mind drift with the thought of holding her in his arms. The longing
must have showed on his face as his aunt Tracy approached.
"Let me guess," she started.
"She's going to be next in your harem?"
Jason took a deep breath and
turned to face her.
"Look, I don't know much about
Liz, but she seems to be a good person and a decent mother." Jason nodded
and Tracy continued, "Why don't you stick to your strippers and con
artist? Please, Please don't let this girl fall in love with you only to
ruin her life."
Jason looked down trying to gather his thoughts. Tracy knew
that sign, that old familiar habit. Even as a boy, Jason would always look down
at his shoes as if he was wondering if he should tell a lie. In the end, he
always told the truth, even if it got him into trouble.
"Too late, huh?" Tracy stepped
closer to him, but he didn't look up. "Why, Jason? Why? She has two small
boys. What can you offer her?"
"I love her." He said softly,
still averting his gaze.
Tracy chuckled sarcastically.
"Love her? Love her? Like Sam and Courtney? What are you going to do
when she gets tired of playing second fiddle to Carly and Sonny?"
"That's not going to happen."
He finally lifted his head to look into her eyes.
"Really?" What makes her any
different?"
Jason started to look away but
Tracy placed her hand gently on his cheek. The gesture shocked them both
but Tracy could see the little boy and the young man that Alan loved so
deeply.
"You may love her but that love
shouldn't be dependent on her making all of the sacrifices. How are you
going to show your love for her and her kids?" She stroked his
cheek gently before lowering her hand to rest gently on his forearm. "If
I think she's expendable, so will everyone else including your enemies
and her sons." Before she turned to walk away, she looked into his eyes
and said gently, "Is that all you have to offer her? I would like to
think that Alan and Monica raised you better than that, even if you
don't remember."
Tracy's words sat upon Jason's
chest like a ton of bricks.
The Metro Court restaurant was
full. As Alexis waited for a table, she spotted Mac at the bar. She
needed to apologize. Her rudeness with him the other day was bothering
her. She touched his arm softly.
"Mac."
When he heard her voice, he
stood, paid the bill and walked away. She followed him to the elevator.
"Look, I'm trying to
apologize."
Without reply, Mac walked into
the waiting elevator. Not to be outdone, Alexis followed.
"What do you want from me, Mac?"
Alexis asked.
As the elevator door closed,
Mac turned to face her. Without saying a word, he approached her slowly
and laid a gentle kiss on her lips. When she didn't move away, he placed
his palm on the small of her back and pulled her closer. She gave a sigh
of surrender and parted her lips in invitation. When he ended the kiss,
he didn't let go.
"What floor is your office on?"
"Six," she whispered.
He pressed the button in time
for the elevator to stop.
Alexis wasn't sure exactly how
she got into the office, but once there, Mac leaned her against the
office door and pressed his frame against hers. His kiss was needy and
urgent. As he slid his hand under her skirt, Alexis felt her body
responding. He raised her skirt around her waist and tugged at her
pantyhose.
"Yes," she pleaded.
That one word would change
their lives forever.
