Part 2 ~ Confirmation

She smiled as she leaned against the doorway. She watched her new husband as he slipped his head through his T-shirt. "I hear Dr. Scorpio had to threaten you with security if you didn't complete the physical."

Hearing her voice, Jason turned to her and smiled, "What did you expect? I heard my favorite nurse decided to take this week as vacation. You don't know how disappointed I was when she wasn't here to greet me."

"Well, I have it on good authority that she is spending the week with her husband and sons. She's really got some surprises in store."

"Surprises?" He smirked as he reached for her. "You know, I hate surprises."

"Ok, then I'll just cancel them," she said playfully as she turned from his embrace. Stepping quickly, Jason blocked her from leaving the room. She didn't resist as he pulled her to him. He kissed her temple before whispering in her ear. "I can endure anything as long as you're with me."

Chuckling, she planted small kisses on the side of his neck. It didn't take long before he backed her up against the hospital bed. As their kisses turned serious, they heard a firm knock on the door.

"Uhhh hmmm," Mac cleared his throat loudly.

Blushing, Liz turned her face away from Mac to gather her composure, while Jason clinched his teeth, angry at the interruption. "Can't this wait?" Jason snapped, "I will give the police my statement at the precinct, just like I did for Georgie."

"This isn't about Emily," he said as he toyed with a brown envelope. "This is about Sonny."

When Jason didn't move, Liz placed a hand gently on his chest. "It's ok," she said softly "I'll make sure that you're cleared for discharge." As she passed Mac, she gave him a shy smile. Before she turned to leave the room, she turned to Jason and winked.

"Ok, what is it?" Jason said unhappily once Liz was out of earshot.

"While you were away, Sonny sent in a sample of DNA from the corpse in Kate's casket. It seems that hearing the news about Georgie had him convinced that Kate was kidnapped, too. We took the DNA sample that Sonny sent and compared it to the DNA that was gathered at the crime scene." Mac glanced at Jason for a reaction; and when he didn't see one, he continued, "The DNA is a match. It confirms that Kate is really the corpse in the casket. From what we can tell, Diego was in contact with Ian, but that contact ended once Ian left town. Kate's death was something that Diego did on his own." Mac handed the envelope to Jason. "I could mail the results to Sonny, but thought the news would be better coming from someone he trusts. You."

Jason took the envelope from Mac. For a minute, he felt guilty. He was glad that the DNA proved to be Kate's. He had no plans to follow Ian around the globe looking for more of his victims. "I'll call Sonny and give him the results," he said more to himself than to Mac. As Mac left, Jason looked down at the envelope. He would call Sonny and give him the news before Liz returned with his discharge papers. He had a week full of surprises waiting for him, and he planned to enjoy every minute.
