Part 7 ~ Solo

"What do you mean, I'm on my own?" Carly hissed into the phone.

"Try to concentrate," Tracy snapped. "The plan has changed. I wasn't able to do my part, so you'll need to come up with another way to stop that wedding." 

"The wedding is in two days. Do you expect me to do everything by myself?" 

"Well, you wouldn't have to do everything by yourself if you did things correctly the first time." 

"Excuse me? I did my part. Jason and Liz were here for over 3 hours." 

"True, but you should have told me that Liz's nanny was packing more than lunches." 

"What are you talking about?" 

"What are you talking about?" Tracy mimicked. "Are you going to tell me that you didn't know that the nanny was armed?" 

"You've got to be mistaken. I know Jason. He would never have those kids anywhere near a gun." 

"Maybe you don't know Jason as well as you think you do, because I can guarantee you that I know a gun when it's aimed at the side of my head."  Tracy paused as she slid into the soft leather of the limousine. "I'm leaving town before Jason starts to put the pieces together. I did, however, arrange to have Liz's limousine driver get lost for a few hours as he takes her to the church. This should buy you enough time to convince Jason that she ran out on him." 

"Are you kidding me? This is your great advice? I take it that you've never seen Liz and Jason together. She would never leave him at the altar. He would never believe that." 

"Make him believe it! Otherwise we both have to welcome Liz into the family with open arms. I'm not ready to let that hussy anywhere near my family's bank account, so while Jason is waiting for his bride, I'll be transferring funds to an offshore account." Tracy relaxed as the driver turned onto the highway headed for her father's private jet. "You either get him to postpone the wedding or come to terms with fading into the background of Jason's life. Good luck." 

The dial tone hummed in Carly's ear before she could respond. It wasn't as if she didn't want Jason to be happy, but she knew that Liz wasn't the right woman for him. She wouldn't be able to forgive herself if she watched them get married only for Liz to break Jason's heart later on. She was his best friend and it was her duty to save him from his own mistakes.
