"Murder, Marriage, and Mayhem"
Part 15 ~ Drift

"Jason," the relief in her voice was evident. Liz had not heard from Jason in almost two weeks. "Are you ok?"

"Every time I hear your voice," he answered. He closed his eyes and said softly into the phone, "We found her. We found Emily."

"Is she ok? Where did you find her? Does she remember anything? Did you catch Ian too?" Liz unleashed the series of questions, too curious to wait for a reply.

It didn't take long for Jason to give her the details. In fact, it was a very simple story. By the time Jason met Nikolas, the private detectives had a lead on Ian's whereabouts. Ian had left a clear trail, staying at popular hotels and eating at the best restaurants. At first, Jason thought that Ian was setting a trap, but in the second week, Ian reverted to his familiar pattern. Finding a small farmhouse, Ian left Emily to be easily found. The scene played out in the same fashion as when they found Georgie. The house was empty except for a small bedroom. Emily didn't recognize anyone but Nikolas. She was quiet and hadn't said a word.

"Nikolas arranged for us to be on the first flight tomorrow. Can you ask Robin to prepare a hospital room for Emily? You may want to call Monica too."

"Of course," Liz confirmed. "I'll call the hospital right now. Everything will be ready when you arrive."

They spent the remainder of their conversation affirming their love for one another.  By the time Jason hung up the phone, he felt at peace. This ordeal was finally over, and he could now start living his life as a husband and a father. A smile settled on his lips as he drifted off to sleep. Tomorrow would be the beginning of the rest of his life.

This was just the beginning, she thought. Everything was happening just like Ian said it would. She glanced at the sleeping figure on the couch. She didn't remember anything about him. Ian said that he was some kind of prince with a sizable bank account and prosperous future. He was handsome, she thought as she studied his profile. His dark hair was tapered close to the nape of his neck, and she had no doubt that the custom-made suit covered a well-toned body. He must love her very much to spend all this time searching for her. She almost felt guilty that she couldn't return his feelings. She had better things to do besides being arm candy for a prince. She had work to do and with any luck, killing Jason would be quick and easy. Ian would come back for her after she completed her task. She smiled as she relaxed against her pillow. She knew that Ian loved her. All she had to do was prove her worth, and then she knew that Ian would take her away to start their lives together. That was all she wanted, and nothing and nobody would ruin this for her.  She drifted off to sleep dreaming of murder and love.
