Part 11 ~ Quick and Quiet

Sonny scanned the resumes again. Michael and Morgan would be arriving on the island in less than ten days. Sonny sighed to himself. What if he made the wrong choice? He had to do something. He never let his sons down before.

"Can't decide?" Sam said as she stepped beside him.

"Does it even make a difference?" Sonny whispered as he wheeled himself from the table.

"Sonny, I know this is hard but nothing comes easy." Sam watched Sonny turn himself towards the beach. "The boys will be proud that you are trying. So would I."

Sonny smiled to himself. Sam had seen him at his most vulnerable. Besides Carly, nobody had seen him close to crumbling. He couldn't disappoint his boys and surprisingly enough, he found that he couldn't disappoint Sam.

"I've made up my mind," Sonny said quickly. "Pass me the phone. I'm going to ask that she start right away."

"I'm going to place you on modified bed rest until your next visit," Kelly said calmly.

"Sorry, I can't. I have a hotel to run," Carly said defiantly.

"Modified bed rest?" Jax queried, "What does that mean?"

Turning toward Jax, Kelly continued, "For every hour that she is on her feet. I want her lying down or sitting for two hours. Car rides should be no more than 30 minutes, and," she paused briefly, "no sexual intercourse until her next visit."

"What?" Carly challenged.

"That's fine," Jax agreed.

Ignoring Carly's defiant stance, Kelly continued, "This is serious Jax. Please make sure she is compliant."

"Will do." He answered

"Hello," Carly screamed. "Do not talk about me as if I wasn't here. Do you know," she stood abruptly, "I could always get a new GYN."

"She'll do no such thing." Jax stated, "When should we make our next appointment?"

"I'll see you again in four weeks. By then we'll be able to determine if we need to do a C-section or proceed with a vaginal delivery." Kelly left the room quickly and closed the door behind her. As she stepped into the hospital foyer, she bumped into Robin's father.

"Kelly, right?" he asked innocently.

"Yes. Robert, right?"

"I knew you were smart." He flirted. "I'm new in town. Can you tell me where I can grab a good lunch?"

"Well, aren't you lucky. I was just on my way to lunch. Would you care to join me?"

"I didn't get this far by being stupid," he said quickly. Stretching put his hand, he beckoned, "Shall we?"

Kelly smiled and silently reached for his hand. Without another word, they made their exit quickly and quietly.

It was quiet in the house, Mac reflected as he sat on the couch. He never intended on being so harsh with Alexis. The fact that she didn't want to marry him made his blood boil. He was going to be a father. He smiled to himself. He had given up the hope of having children. Another daughter would be a godsend. He wasn't sure what to do with a son, but he was sure that he would figure it out.

Smiling to himself, Mac let him mind wander. He drifted off to sleep as the silence of the house quieted his fears.
