"Tangled Webs"
Part 4 ~ Date

"I didn't expect to see you here," Johnny said, walking towards the park bench. "With Georgie home, I would have thought you'd abandon this place."

"I know," Maxie sighed. "It doesn't make sense." She eyed Johnny wearily before continuing, "But I still miss her."

"She's not getting any better?"

"No, and I'm running out of ideas. Dillon will be leaving in a few days, and I can't ask him to just drop his life in California and move back to Port Charles. Especially for someone who doesn't even remember his name."

Johnny sat down close beside her, and as she felt his leg touch hers, she was strangely comforted. When she unexpectedly laid her head on his shoulder, Johnny took the opportunity to inhale her scent. She smelled like sugar; sweet and sinful.

"I tried everything. Pictures, old family movies, and I even brought out her old diary but nothing helped."

He wanted to feel sorry for her, but he was selfish and couldn't help thinking of touching her. He knew he had to say something, so he told her the truth. "Maybe you're pushing too hard. Give Georgie a break. Forcing her to remember is probably having the reverse effect."

She looked up at him. "Do you really think so?"

"Leaving her alone is the only thing you didn't try." While she thought about his words, Johnny rushed to take advantage of the moment. "Why don't we go out tonight. Maybe dinner or dancing? Then tomorrow you can think of a new strategy."

She turned to look at him. His hands, that were once gently resting on his thighs, were now tense with anticipation of her reply. Maxie thought about putting up resistance to the idea, but she knew that Johnny wasn't a man that asked twice.

"I'd like that," she answered, watching his muscles relax.

"Which one? Dancing or dinner?"

"How about both?" she purred. "Unless you're not up for the challenge."

He didn't answer. Instead, he smiled at her, and her heart fluttered.
