"Tangled Webs"
Part 10 ~ Troublemaker
By Kimberly
7/10/11

He rolled the wheelchair effortlessly down the hall. Passing the main staircase, he continued down the dimly lit hallway. This is where he would house his guest, but it had been a long time since anyone stayed overnight. He made a right at the antique mirror that Carly brought during their second marriage. He hated that mirror, and he guessed that she did too, since she didn't take it with her when she left.

Layla and Sam were sharing adjoining rooms, and from the sound of things, they were enjoying each other's company. As he neared the bedroom door, he could hear laughter followed by brief segments of whispering. He knocked softly and heard bare feet approaching the door.

"Sonny," Sam said as more of a confirmation than a greeting.

"Sorry to disturb you," he said as he wheeled himself into the room. He spotted Layla, who was wearing faded jeans and an olive colored halter-top, blush slightly before turning towards the mirror to finish styling her hair. "Should I come back later?" he asked.

"Nope," Sam grinned at Layla's reflection in the mirror.

Sonny had the feeling that he was the topic of their whispered conversation. Instead of pursuing the matter, he said, "I'm really sorry about tonight. I didn't bring you back to Port Charles to make your stay awkward. This dinner party...." he shrugged.

"Trust me, if you would have told Carly not to have the party, that would have raised red flags." Sam said as she walked to help Layla secure a clip in her hair. "The last thing we need is Carly snooping around."

"Agreed," Layla said as she handed Sam another hair clip.

"Regardless, I promise that I'll have Max and Milo keep the guests downstairs. No one will know you're here."

"No need to worry. In 30 minutes, Alexis will be here. We are going to have dinner at Wyndemere while Nikolas is here at the party." Sam informed him, "and Layla is going out to Jake's with friends."

Turning to go, Sonny said, "Make sure you call Max when you are on your way home. He'll open the side gate for you."

Before Sonny could wheel himself through the door, Sam spoke quickly. "I'll have Alexis call, but you don't need to wait up for Layla. She's staying overnight at a friend's house."

Sonny clinched his teeth together briefly before looking over his shoulder. Giving them both a wide dimpled smile, he said coldly, "You ladies have a great time."

Sam waited until she saw Sonny reach the antique mirror before she closed the door.

"That wasn't right," Layla scolded.

"What?" Wide-eyed, Sam questioned innocently.

"You led him to believe that I was staying the night at some guy's house."

"I didn't mention anything about a guy."

"But you implied it."

"Nonsense. Plus, if he doesn't care for you, it won't bother him where you stay the night."

"I'm going to talk to him," Layla said, as she headed toward the door. "I don't want him thinking that I'm hooking up with some random guy."

"Are you ready to tell him that you've fallen in love with him?" Sam said sharply. "Because that's what he's going to think if you go chasing after him."

Giving it some thought, Layla turned and frowned at Sam. "Did anyone ever tell you that you were a troublemaker?"

Sam chuckled as she watched Layla walk back to the mirror to put on her lipstick.

She had been called horrible names, so she didn't mind being called a troublemaker. Not all trouble was bad, was it?
