"Accidental Autumn"
Part 13 ~ Painful Request

"Never," the female voice shouted into the phone. "I can't believe that you have the nerve to call this house with such an insane demand."

"Olivia," Sonny said calmly. "Listen to what I'm saying. There is a possibility that Kate is alive. It may not be her buried in that casket."

"Kate is dead," Olivia screamed. "I should know. I was the one who picked out her dress, watched them paint her nails and comb her hair. I was there at the end of the wake and watched them close the casket. Where were you?" she questioned.

Sonny could hear the raw pain in Olivia's voice. No matter what he said, Olivia would never understand that Sonny was in pain too. Instead of offering an excuse, he remained silent.

"Where were you?" she repeated. "I thought you were so in love with her. I guess it was too much to ask that you stop your criminal activities to attend her funeral. You didn't send flowers, didn't call the family, you didn't do anything." Sonny could hear her sobbing as she continued. "But now you call and ask me to dig up my cousin so that you can what? Have one last look? You're sick! You're a sick man to ask me to do that."

"I just need a sample of the DNA from the body in the casket." Sonny began.

"You're not getting anything. Kate gave you everything she had when she was alive. Even in her death, you want more.  You're not getting anything Sonny. Nothing," she screamed. "Nothing!"

Sonny heard Olivia slam down the phone. Even as the dial tone buzzed in his ear, Sonny cradled the phone in his hand.  Sometimes difficult decisions had to be made. As he dialed his office in Port Charles, Sonny hoped that Olivia wouldn't hate him forever.
