Fun General Hospital Stories!

"Warm Spring Nights"
Part 9 ~ Apply
by Kimberly
6/7/09

"You're late," Epiphany stated as Liz rushed to the nurses' station.

There was no need to argue. She was late. She didn't get to sleep until after midnight. Waking up late, both she and Jason scrambled to get her to work on time. She even had to call English and ask her to take the kids to childcare and then meet her at the lobby of the hospital with her nurse's uniform.

Giving Epiphany a weak smile, she quickly placed her hair in a ponytail and got to work.

"I need to leave a little early. You're in charge of the floor. Try and see if you can get some of these nurses to actually work." As Epiphany nodded in the direction of Layla and Nadine, Liz could clearly see them chatting away as if they were on break.

As Epiphany headed for the elevators, Liz rushed over to the chatting nurses to see what was amiss.

"What's going on?"

"Well," Nadine chimed. "Mr. Corinthos has placed a full page ad in the paper searching for a live-in nurse and physical therapist. I was just telling Layla that I'm going to apply.

"And I was telling her that there was no need to apply because I already did," Layla smirked

"Are you telling me that you would consider leaving Port Charles to work for Sonny?" Liz asked.

"To work on a tropical island earning about 50 percent more than I'm making now? Let me think about that," Nadine said playfully. As she looked at Layla, they both said "Yes" in unison.

"Well, you do know that Sonny is not the easiest person to work for," Liz informed.

"Neither is Epiphany but we've survived. Anyway, I've already applied," Layla said before walking away to help a patient.

"I don't care if she did apply. My credentials are just as good as hers are. I'm going to apply too." Nadine stated confidently.

"I knew if I applied myself, I'd be successful. I just didn't count on it being so soon." Maxie fretted.

"You sound anxious. I'm sure that Jax wouldn't have given you this responsibility if he didn't think you could handle it." Robin tried to calm Maxie's nervousness. "Just continue to do what you've been doing, and I'm sure it will all come together."

"You think so?"

"I know so," Robin said, "but tell me the real reason why you stopped by this morning?" As she watched Maxie pace across the floor, it wasn't hard to tell that she had something else on her mind.

Pausing for a moment, Maxie thought of telling Robin about Johnny. But was there anything to tell? Johnny took her for a ride and they talked. It wasn't as if they were dating or anything. She was sure that Robin had other things to think about, like Emma. Still in the hospital, Emma wasn't gaining much weight and the doctors were hesitant to send her home.

"No, I didn't have anything else to say."

"Maxie," Robin scolded "Out with it."

"Ok," Maxie said rushing to sit next to Robin on the couch. "I met this guy and you know, we've been talking."

"Just talking?"

"Yes, that's the weird thing. We've been just talking and I can't get him out of my mind. See my problem?"

"You like a guy. That's just natural." Robin said innocently.

"No, no. I can't get him out of my mind. How am I supposed to work if I keep thinking about him every 5 minutes?"

"I think you can be successful and have a relationship."

"No," Maxie interrupted, "I know what I have to do. I think I'll just have to sleep with him. Then I can get it all out of my system."

"I don't think sleeping with him is the answer," Robin warned, "Go to work. Once you start working, I'm sure you won't be thinking of him every five minutes."

Maxie knew that Robin was right, but she still liked her idea better.
