Part 8 ~ A Father's Son

Sonny sat on the veranda and watched the boys try and tame the surfboards against the waves. The boys always enjoyed their visit to the island and this visit was no different. Morgan was reserved at first, and it took him a few hours to get used to the idea of seeing Sonny in a wheelchair. Michael was overly protective; making sure that Sonny was taking the physical therapy sessions seriously. He missed his sons, Sonny admitted to himself. As he heard their laughter float against the wind, Sonny knew that he couldn't hide on the island forever. In two days, the boys would be headed back home. While they were gone, Sonny promised himself that he would work twice as hard during his physical therapy sessions. It would be great if he could be back in Port Charles by Christmas, especially if he was walking.  

"You look happy," Sam said as she leaned against the railing. Looking at the boys play on the beach, she added, "They are having so much fun. I'm glad they came." 

"So am I," Sonny agreed.

"Me, too," Layla added as she walked onto the veranda. "We've accomplished so much since they've been here. I hope we can continue once they leave." 

Watching the boys frolic in the sand, Sonny mumbled, "I'm not going to quit now."

With the sun beating on his back, he walked slowly into the water. He loved this island. He had so many memories playing in his head. As he looked over his shoulder at his father, he couldn't help but see her. It was so obvious that she was pregnant. She tried to hide it by wearing loose clothes and taking her dinner in her room, but he was not a fool. If his father taught him one thing, it was to be observant. He shouldn't be surprised that she was pregnant. She was always trying to force her way into his family, first with his father, then Jason and now she was back to her original plan. This time she would find that she would not be welcomed. Pregnant or not, he had no intention on letting his father be played for a fool. He heard his brother call him name, and as he turned towards him, he knew that he had to protect his family against all threats.
