"Summer Suspects"
Part 4 ~ Road Trip

Jason cradled his cell phone in his hand. Liz was working in surgery, and it would be hours before she was available. Leaving a voice message on her cell phone, Jason told her that he needed to go out of town. He professed his love for her, but even as he said the words, he could feel her disappointment. What kind of life was he offering Liz, Jason thought as he closed his eyes. Disappearing for days at a time was no way to start a family.

"Stone Cold? Stone Cold!" Spinelli squeaked, "I think I've found it."

Jason rushed to peer over Spinelli's shoulder. The laptop screen displayed a series of longitude and latitude information.

"It seems as if Diego spent a lot of time in Switzerland before boarding a plane to the States."

"Where in Switzerland?"

"If my calculations are correct, Zurich."

"Get us two plane tickets to Zurich."

Spinelli nodded quickly and started typing on his laptop. As Jason went upstairs to pack, there was a knock at the door. Spinelli paused for a second before realizing that Jason wasn't coming to answer the door. Peering out the peephole, Spinelli saw Nik leaning against the doorframe.

"Fair Prince! What can the Jackal do for you?"

"I'm looking for Jason," Nik said as he swayed against the door. Scared that he would collapse, Spinelli led him to the couch, leaving the door ajar.

"One minute. I'll get Stone Cold." As Spinelli ran up the stairs, Nik took the laptop from the coffee table. Zurich, this must be where Jason is going to begin his search.

"What are you doing here?" Jason asked.

"I'm going with you."

Letting out a sarcastic laugh, Jason smirked at Nik.

"I know where you're going. Zurich, right?" Nik stated, "I don't need your permission. I can hire all the men I need."

"Do not get in my way," Jason said dangerously.

"Then we go together. We work together, and we bring Em home."

It seemed like an eternity before Jason turned to Spinelli. "Make that three plane tickets."

"I can't let that happen." Lainey pushed open the door. "Nik is in no condition to travel."

"You can't stop me," Nik said defiantly.

"Yes," Lainey spoke as she reached for her cell phone. "I can."

Before she could dial, Jason snatched the phone from her hand. "Go home ," he ordered.

"I will not leave him. I have an obligation to make sure that Nik is safe and does not endure any additional trauma. "

"Well then, that leaves me no choice." Jason whispered as he slammed the door shut. Turning to Spinelli, he said, "Make that four tickets."
