Freak of the Week: We meet three
former jocks from Smallville High six years ago. At the time, they lost
their scholarships and hopes for the future, and started injecting
themselves with Kryptonite in the form of green tattoos. This speeds up
their metabolism and allows them to walk through matter, for example
walking through walls. They attempted to rob the Smallville Savings and
Loans, but didn't succeed. In fact, one of them lost his arm that was
left in the safe.
They then rob the Luthor vault in the mansion, including a disk that
shows that Lex has gained access to
LuthorCorp's Intranet. In the process, they seriously injure Chloe
Sullivan (Allison Mack) who was at the mansion interviewing Lex Luthor (Michael
Rosenbaum). Clark Kent (Tom
Welling) is curious as to why Lex did not report the robbery. A few
days later, the jocks return to the mansion, and using the disk as
collateral, they blackmail Lex for $1million. Lex promises them he will
be in touch with the money.
Unfortunately, the jocks also realize that they are not as strong as they
used to be, and that they need to add a new member to their gang. They
recruit Whitney Fordman (Eric Johnson),
who has just lost his scholarship and is destined to work in his father's
store for the rest of his life. They invite him to a party, and then
encourage him to get his first meteorite tattoo. Once he agrees, they
take him out to show him his new power. They throw him onto the road in
front of a moving truck, and the truck drives right through him.
Wearing face masks, they then take Whitney along to meet up with Lex, who
claims to be bringing $1million, but is in fact carrying an empty case.
The jocks get upset with him and start beating Lex up. Whitney complains
that this is not what he signed on for. Clark who had begun to figure
things out, interrupts and as the jocks quickly leave the scene through
the walls, but Clark calls Whitney who turns around and is recognized
despite his mask.
He finally admits everything to Lana Lang (Kristin
Kreuk) and to Clark. He explains about Lex's disk. Both Clark and
Whitney decide to go to the jock's hideout, while they are sleeping and
recovering their strengths. In a final showdown, they find the disk at
the same time as Lex arrives on the scene. The jocks show up, and,
disappointed in Whitney, try to kill him, but Clark saves him. The cops
finally show up, and while Lex explains the situation, he cleverly leaves
out the fact that the boys could walk through walls. He then turns to the
jocks as they are driven away and tells them that he will keep their
secret as long as they keep his (his access to
LuthorCorp's Intranet).
Character Development: Aunt Nell (Sarah-Jane
Redmond) is packing up The Talon. Lana asks her aunt who has bought
it, and Nell informs her it is Lex. Lana tries to reason with Lex and
asks him not to transform The Talon (an old movie theatre where her
parents first met, her father was working there, and her mother got bored
with a movie and both started talking). He tells her that he sees no good
business reason why he should not destroy The Talon and turn it into a
huge parking lot.
Clark makes her realize that she just needs to give him a good business
reason. So, a few days later, she hands Lex her business plan: he should
register the building as a historic landmark, which will give his certain
tax benefits. She then proposes to turn it into a café-bookstore that can
also serve as a venue for local bands and art house movies. Lex is
impressed and agrees to the new plan. He will be the new silent partner
of the new Talon. All detailed descriptions © Copyright 2000-2008- All Rights Reserved
Notes:The physics of a hyper-accelerated metabolism letting you
walk through solid objects is a bit unclear. In the comics various
super-speedsters can vibrate through walls, but the jocks and Whitney
don't display any ability to actually move really fast. And how do they
vibrate their clothes (but not the one guy's prosthetic arm)?
Exactly how does Chloe end up grabbing the ledge when she
gets pushed out by the one of the three phase-shifting guys? The way she
was pushed out, she was in a semi-sitting position falling backwards.
Barring a ridiculously perfect backflip, she wouldn't have been able to
catch the ledge yet does so while she calls for Clark. Just a tad bit
impossible...
The computer disk Clark is holding when he crushes it
isn't a computer disk at all, its a MiniDisc. It shows the number 74 on
it which indicates a 74 minute MiniDisc. Why do this? A normal computer
disk would have worked just as well.
When the guys throw Whitney in front of the truck, the
truck would have reached him WAY before he could have stood up. Season Two -
