According to soapcentral.com, GL and ATWT have been renewed for September 2008 through September 2009
with the option to renew yearly through 2011 based on their performances.
On February 29, 2008, GL debuted a whole new current look. Striving to give
the show a different style and cut costs, executive producer
Ellen Wheeler (ex-Cindy, AMC; ex-Marley, ATWT; ex-Phyllis, Dark Shadows) has
made numerous changes, adding in-depth characterizations and realistic scenes
with different graphics and camera effects. Instead of using large
pedestal cameras, smaller crews with handheld digital mini-cams follow the
characters inside
30-40 permanent enclosed four-wall sets with 10-foot ceilings. Exterior scenes,
shot on permanent sets built in Peapack, New Jersey, make up 20% of each
day's show, giving it a more natural, authentic
sense of setting.
On January 10, 2008, it was announced that GL was nominated for a
Directors Guild of America award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in
Daytime Serials. Ellen Wheeler directed episode #15221 entitled
"Memories" which aired on July 25, 2007, when all exposed to Alan's serum
lose their memories and realize that their good and bad experiences make up
who they are. The other directorial nominees were Casey Childs, AMC
(Episode #9669), Christopher Goutman, ATWT, (Episode #12971), Scott
McKinsey, GH (Episode #11228), and Larry Carpenter, OLTL (Episode #9947).
The awards were presented on January 26, 2008, at the Hyatt Century Plaza
Hotel in Los Angeles, California, when OLTL's Larry Carpenter won.
