Freak of the Week: Sam Phalen (Cameron Dye) is a detective
of the Metropolis Police Department. His is the first episode villain to
not have supernatural powers. He is just a corrupt cop, who witnesses
Clark Kent (Tom
Welling) saving a man from being run over by a bus, using his
powers. He discusses Clark with Lex Luthor (Michael
Rosenbaum) and gets Lex curious about Clark again, but
doesn't reveal that he knows about Clark's powers. Phalen continues
investigating Clark, and finds that he has been present at the scene of
many accidents. He then blackmails Clark into helping him with his
illegal police tactics. Clark agrees for a while, and when he tries to
get back at Phalen, the detective frames Jonathan Kent (John
Schneider) for a crime. Finally, as Clark is setting Phalen up for a
museum theft, the cop gets killed in a shootout. The charges against
Jonathan are dropped.
Character Development: Chloe Sullivan (Allison
Mack) writes an article for the school newspaper about the
connection between the meteor shower and the weird things that have
happened in Smallville. Principal Kwan (Hiro Kanagawa)
is not happy with the article and fires her. Lana Lang (Kristin
Kreuk), who speaks to the Principal to defend Chloe gets
hired instead. This causes an argument between Lana and Chloe, who
believes that Lana got the job in order to get closer to Clark. Lana,
however, proves to Chloe that this is not true, firstly by letting her
ghost-write using Lana's name, and also by speaking to the Principal and
getting Chloe re-hired. The girls agree to be friends, and that they
both only have friendship feelings for Clark.
When Clark visit's the museum, it is his first time in Metropolis. Lana
is also there with her aunt Nell Potter (Sarah-Jane
Redmond) and Whitney Fordman (Eric
Johnson), so is Lex with a visiting old flame old flame,
Victoria Hardwick (Kelly
Brook). Lex tells Clark that he should watch out for Whitney,
using the great line: "Keep your friends close and your quarterback
closer".
Lex asks Victoria what she wants from him, and she explains that she is
working for her father, Sir Harry Hardwick, who is a rival of Lionel
Luthor's (John
Glover). She is here to try and convince Lex to work for her
father at taking LuthorCorp over. Instead, Lex suggests that they both
work together at acquiring both companies, but also agrees to look over
her father's proposal.
Lex's starts wondering about Clark's secret, after having spoken to
Phalen. At the end of the episode, we see him reviewing the security
camera from the museum, where Clark used his supersonic speed. Lex spots
the quick "shadow" that appears for a second on the video, and is left
wondering... All detailed descriptions © Copyright 2000-2008- All Rights Reserved
Notes:Star Trek Crossover #2 Director David Carson directed
Star Trek: The Next Generation & Deep Space 9.
How was Clark's dad finally released? The guy that set him up was dead,
are we supposed to assume that it somehow got cleared up because of that?
Where did Lex get the video of Clark running through the museum? Hadn't
all the cameras been disabled?
