ABC BRINGS ISRAEL’S TOP RATED REALITY
SERIES “RISING STAR” TO U.S. FROM KESHET DCP
Set For Summer 2014 - ABC has ordered 10 episodes of the
highly sought-after Israeli format “Rising Star” from Keshet
DCP, the joint venture between Keshet International (KI),
the global distribution and production arm of Keshet Media
Group, and DC Media, the parent company of dick clark
productions (dcp). Keshet DCP was formed to leverage
Keshet’s globally successful unscripted business with DC
Media’s expansive U.S. infrastructure and production
expertise. The singing competition for ABC will mark the
company’s first foray into the market since its formation in
October. The show is slated for Summer 2014.
“Rising Star,” produced by Tedy Productions for Keshet
Broadcasting, made a record-breaking debut on Israel’s
Channel 2 this fall and keeps breaking records with a 49.4
percent share, having almost half of all TV audiences tuning
into the show. The show has far outperformed all second
screen data ever recorded in Israel, with a participation
rate 10 times higher than previous shows, and is maintaining
high ratings and conversion rates (viewers to second screen
participation) of over 30 percent.
The format has already sold to numerous territories,
including France, Germany, Italy and Russia, and interest
continues to grow worldwide, with ABC beating out several
competitors for the U.S. market.
“Rising Star” completely reinvents the traditional singing
competition as--for the first time ever--the audience has
the final say in real time. The show follows a group of
aspiring singers as they audition in live performances.
During the performances, viewers vote via an App in real
time to determine if the singer will advance in the
competition. If the voting reaches a certain threshold, the
performer moves on, and the performer can see how the voting
is going during the performance, so the feedback is
immediate and dramatic.

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--(NASDAQ: AMZN)—Following the
positive response to its first set of TV pilots, Amazon
Studios today announced it will produce five more original
pilots for kids, including the first pilots for ages 6-11.
The new pilots come from Emmy Award-winning creators as well
as a Hollywood newcomer discovered though Amazon Studios’
open-door submission process. The pilots will stream on
Amazon Instant Video and LOVEFiLM in the U.K. for customers
to watch, provide feedback, and help determine which shows
should be produced as series.
“We're very excited to be able to introduce these five
original ideas and their talented creators to Amazon
customers. After the success of our first pilots, we look
forward to getting lots more fantastic feedback from kids

“For the first time we are offering live-action and animated
programming for older children and continuing with
entertaining, educational programming for preschool aged
children—it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
“I’ve been dreaming up funny adventures for Gortimer Gibbon
for as long as I can remember and it’s incredibly thrilling
to be working with Amazon to bring these tales to life,”

Normal Street, one of the new pilots now in production.
“With the unique open-door submission process that Amazon

rewarding experience. We are so excited to hear what Amazon
parents and kids think of our show. We hope Jo B. and G.

Antebellum America and the U.S. Civil War –

Jakes, the bestselling author who mingles the lives of
historical personages and strong characters, and involves
them in the great events of the U.S. and world.
NORTH AND SOUTH will tell the epic story of two families –
the Hazard family, northern factory owners from

owners. The story begins when lead characters George Hazard
and Orry Main meet as young men at the U.S. Military Academy
at West Point. The Hazard and the Main families become
close, brought together in bonds of friendship and affection
that neither jealousy nor violence can shatter.
At a time when great technological advancements were made
and social and political groups worked for anti-slavery
legislation as well as women’s equality, the economic
foundation of the country began to rapidly change. Spanning
three generations and chronicling the lives and loves of two
great family dynasties, NORTH AND SOUTH shows the vastly

NORTH AND SOUTH is a co-production between Discovery and
Lionsgate. John Jakes is represented by Joel Gotler of IPG

ESQUIRE NETWORK GREENLIGHTS “CAR
MATCHMAKER,” HOSTED BY SPIKE FERESTEN AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCED
BY ELLEN RAKIETEN
LOS ANGELES – June 11, 2014 – Esquire Network announced
today that it has greenlit production on new original

comedian Spike Feresten and executive produced by Ellen
Rakieten of Ellen Rakieten Entertainment, a division of

upon his two decades of expertise and instinct to find three
different cars perfectly suited to the buyer. At the end of
each episode, a car is chosen. Whether it’s someone looking
to reconnect with a car from their past, a guy lusting after
the muscle car of his dreams, or the father of triplets
searching for a manly “dadmobile,” Spike doesn’t pick the
expected car - but he always picks the perfect one.
“Spike has been his friends’ go-to car buying guy for years,
and his passion for and knowledge about cars is truly
remarkable," said Matt Hanna, Head of Original Programming,
Esquire Network. "There’s definitely a lot of fun to be had

ZENDAYA TO STAR AND PERFORM IN LIFETIME
ORIGINAL MOVIE AALIYAH: PRINCESS OF R&B (WT)

Film Chronicles the R&B Superstar’s Rise to Fame and Tragic
Los Angeles, CA (June 16, 2014) – Platinum-selling recording
artist Zendaya (Shake It Up!, Dancing with the Stars) will
portray Aaliyah in a Lifetime Original Movie about the life
of the actress and R&B sensation who, at the height of her
stardom, tragically died in a plane crash. Zendaya will

Than a Woman by former Time Magazine music editor
Christopher Farley, Aaliyah: Princess of R&B (wt), the first
movie about the beloved artist, will be filmed this summer
and premiere in the Fall.
Before Beyonce and before Rihanna, self-proclaimed “street
but sweet” Aaliyah was poised to become a global icon with
top-selling albums, a hot movie career and an adoring fan
base. But behind the spotlight, Brooklyn-born,
Detroit-raised Aaliyah Dana Haughton struggled to succeed in
a tough business while staying grounded in the midst of her

talented performer’s inspirational journey, from her debut
on Star Search at the age of ten to the challenges she faced
during her rise to become the Princess of R&B. On August 25,
2001, at the height of her popularity, her life was
tragically cut short when a plane carrying the singer and
some of her video crew crashed after takeoff from a Bahamian
runway. Although just 22-years-old at the time of her death,
Aaliyah continues to lead a legacy as Billboard’s tenth most
famous R&B artist of the past 25 years and one of the
recording industry’s most successful artists in history.

NBC GREENLIGHTS DRAMA SERIES 'EMERALD
CITY' AND MINISERIES 'THE SLAP'
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — Jan. 19, 2014 — NBC has given a
10-episode straight-to-series order for “Emerald City,” a
reimagining of the classic Frank L. Baum books that have
inspired everything from “The Wizard Of Oz” to “Wicked.”
Based on the 14-book series that first created the wonderful
– and treacherous – Land of Oz, “Emerald City” is a dramatic
and modern reimagining of the tales that include lethal
warriors, competing kingdoms, and the infamous wizard as
we’ve never seen him before. A head-strong 20-year-old
Dorothy Gale is unwittingly sent on an eye-opening journey
that thrusts her into the center of an epic and bloody
battle for the control of Oz.

Slap,” based on the critically-acclaimed Australian project
of the same name that aired in 2011.
Written by Jon Robin Baitz (“The West Wing,” “Brothers &

Slap” is a complex family drama that explodes from one small
incident where a man slaps another couple’s misbehaving
child. This seemingly minor domestic dispute pulls the
family apart, begins to expose long-held secrets, and
ignites a lawsuit that challenges the core American values
of all who are pulled into it.

LOS ANGELES, CA; JULY 21, 2012 -- PBS announced today that
THE ROOSEVELTS: AN INTIMATE HISTORY, a new seven-part,
14-hour documentary by Ken Burns, will air in 2014 on PBS.
The film weaves the stories of Theodore, Franklin and
Eleanor Roosevelt, three members of one of the most
prominent and influential families in American politics. The
series marks the first time their individual stories have
been woven into a single narrative.
“The Roosevelts have played significant roles in other
stories we’ve told before, from the National Parks to World
War II,” said Burns. “It’s impossible, in fact, to visit
many parts of the American experience without encountering
their presence. But beyond simply sharing a bloodline or
political success, they each shared a passionate belief that
America is at its strongest when everyone has an equal
chance. And on a personal level, they each struggled to
overcome their own fears while maintaining a public face of
THE ROOSEVELTS follows the family’s story for more than a
century, from Theodore’s birth in 1858 to Eleanor’s death in
1962. Over the course of those years, Theodore would become
the 26th president of the United States, and his beloved
niece, Eleanor, would marry his fifth cousin, Franklin, who
became the 32nd president. Together, they redefined the
relationship Americans had with their government and with
each other, and redefined, as well, the role of the United
States within the wider world. The series encompasses all
the history the Roosevelts helped to make — the creation of
National Parks and the digging of the Panama Canal, the New
Deal and the defeat of Hitler, and the postwar struggles for
civil rights at home and human rights around the world in
which Eleanor Roosevelt played a central role. But it is
also an intimate human story about love and betrayal, family
feeling and personal courage and the conquest of fear.
“In THE ROOSEVELTS, Ken delves into these three
larger-than-life figures in a way that’s never been done
before, exploring not only the characteristics that made
them such tremendously influential and strong leaders, but
also their interpersonal relationships and human, vulnerable
qualities,” said Paula Kerger, president and CEO of PBS.
“It’s a wonderful story and we’re very excited to present it
to our viewers.”
Legendary actress Meryl Streep portrays Eleanor Roosevelt in
readings from her personal letters and writings. Of her
performance, Burns said, “As we’ve seen time and time again,
Ms. Streep is a magician. Here, she completely transformed
herself into Eleanor Roosevelt, simply through her voice. It
was remarkable to witness. The entire cast delivers what I
consider to be some of the finest voice-over work we’ve ever
been fortunate enough to present.”
Joining Streep are Paul Giamatti as the voice of Theodore
Roosevelt and Edward Herrmann, two-time Emmy Award nominee
for his performance as Franklin Roosevelt, as the voice of
Rounding out the cast are Patricia Clarkson, Adam Arkin,
Philip Bosco, Keith Carradine, Kevin Conway, Ed Harris, John
Lithgow, Josh Lucas, Carl Lumbly, Amy Madigan, Carolyn
McCormick, Pamela Reed, Billy Bob Thornton and Eli Wallach.
THE ROOSEVELTS is written by longtime Burns collaborator
Geoffrey C. Ward, who is an authority on Franklin Roosevelt.
The author of two biographical volumes, A First-Class
Temperament and Before the Trumpet, he is also the editor of
Closest Companion, which revealed for the first time
Roosevelt’s close friendship with his distant cousin, Daisy
Suckley. Ward’s interest in FDR grew in part from the fact
that he, like FDR, is a polio survivor.
In addition to THE ROOSEVELTS, Burns’s THE DUST BOWL will
air on PBS on November 18 and 19, 2012. THE CENTRAL PARK
FIVE, which recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival,
will air in 2013 or 2014.

Michael Bay's 'Black Sails' Gets Early
Second-Season Renewal at Starz
The pirate drama will premiere in January, with production
resuming in November 2013 for a second run of 10 episodes.
More than five months before its series premiere, Starz has
granted an early second-season renewal to pirate drama Black
The Michael Bay-produced drama will premiere in January,
with production on a second season of 10 episodes resuming
in November 2013, the premium cable network announced Friday
at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour.
Launching in 2014, the eight-episode first season follows
Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his men two years before
the story of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island takes
place. Described as a brilliant and feared pirate captain,
Flint takes on a fast-talking addition to his crew, John
Silver (Luke Arnold). They fight for the survival of New
Providence Island, an infamous criminal haven teeming with
pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place
defined by ideals and brutality.
The series was created by Jonathan Steinberg (Jericho) and
season-two executive producer Robert Levine (Touch). The
drama had a major presence at San Diego Comic-Con. The
network used the pop culture confab to screen the pilot at a
fan-only event outside of the convention center. The series
also had a massive pirate ship on the convention floor.
"Michael Bay, Jon Steinberg and their teams delivered a
spectacular first season of Black Sails, and we are
incredibly proud of everyone's work," Starz CEO Chris
Albrecht said. "Based on the strong fan response to the
preview screening at last week's Comic-Con, we felt an early
order for a second season would allow the writers, cast and
crew enough time and space to continue crafting such unique
and epic storytelling."
For Starz, the early renewal marks a sign of confidence in
the series, which films on elaborate sets in South Africa.
The network previously has granted early second-season
orders to shows before their series premieres, most recently
for Kelsey Grammer starrer Boss.
The series joins a roster that includes Ron Moore's
Outlander, Fortitude and the second season of Da Vinci's
Demons. The network is in development on a slew of original
dramas including recently announced series Power, from
Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, as the network looks to ramp up
its scripted programming by 50 percent in 2014.

Syfy Gives Pilot Order To ‘Dominion’
As Quartet Of Other Projects Heat Up
Syfy has greenlighted a 90-minute pilot for Dominion, a
drama based on characters from the 2010 feature Legion,
which starred Paul Bettany. The feature’s director/co-writer
Scott Stewart is directing the pilot, written by Vaun
Wilmott (Sons Of Anarchy). Dominion is described as an epic
supernatural action drama set 25 years in the future after a
war between an army of angels and mankind has transformed
the world. It follows the perilous journey of a rebellious
young soldier who discovers he’s the unlikely savior of
humanity. Bold Films, which produced the movie for Screen
Gems, is co-producing with Universal Cable Prods. Stewart
and Bold’s Michel Litvak and David Lancaster executive
produce, with Wilmott, co-executive producing.
In addition to Dominion, Syfy has narrowed the field for
more pickups as I hear the network is considering both pilot
and straight-to-series orders. Said to be at the top of the
list are four projects, at least one of which is expected to
go straight to series. The quartet includes another movie
adaptation, 12 Monkeys, from writers Terry Matalas & Travis
Fickett, director Jon Cassar and Atlas Entertainment;
Clandestine, from actor-writer Todd Stashwick and artist
Dennis Calero, described as a swashbuckling space
drama/adventure revolving around mercenaries who masquerade
as part of an intergalactic fleet; Proof, from Marti Noxon
and M. Night Shyamalan, about the son of a billionaire tech
genius who offers a large reward for anyone who can find
proof of life after death; and Sojourn, from Phil Levens,
Jason Blum and Lionsgate, about a space detective tasked
with investigating a murder on a starship.
Wilmott, repped by WME, which also reps Stewart and Bold,
and manager Carel Cutler, is writing the Syfy miniseries
development project Ringworld, with Jeff Pinkner and Akiva
Goldsman executive producing, and also penned the Syfy
miniseries Darkfall. From deadline.com

Unscripted Series to Follow Five-Time Grammy Winner through

Chart-topping, Grammy-winning recording artist, entrepreneur
and pop culture iconCeeLo Green is coming to TBS in the
brand new show The CeeLo Life (working title). TBS has
ordered six episodes of the unscripted series, which will
follow CeeLo as he tackles not only a packed schedule of
producing, recording and performing, but also a creative
partnership with his longtime best friends - Big Gipp,
Khujoand T-Mo - as they prepare to bring their legendary
hip-hop group Goodie Mob back to the world stage.
Set to premiere on TBS in 2014, The CeeLo Life is being
produced by Emerald TV Productions, LLC and Rogue Atlas.
CeeLo is executive-producing the series with Larry Mestel (CeeLo
Green is Loberace), Emerald's Andrew Jameson (Living Lohan)
and Rogue Atlas' Eli Frankel (Family Trade).
The CeeLo Life follows world-renowned recording artist CeeLo
Green into the next stage of his career, which is ironically
a blast from the past. After a long hiatus and the explosion
of CeeLo's solo music career, CeeLo now wants to share his
success with the best friends with whom he started.
Together, they are now bringing their legendary hip-hop
group Goodie Mob back into the spotlight with their fifth
album, Age Against the Machine, which is set to be released
on Aug. 27. They also have a successful Las Vegas headlining
gig and an international tour on the horizon. To enjoy this
ride of a lifetime, all they have to do is navigate a
demanding schedule, the perks and temptations of being at
the top of the music game, and twenty years of history
together, all while still keeping their friendship intact.
The Goodie Mob revival, however, is just one of the many
creative projects on CeeLo's plate. He recently completed a
run of performances in the musical spectacular Loberace at
Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. He's also putting the
finishing touches on his fourth album, which is slated for
release later this year, and will be seen in the movie Can a
Song Save Your Life?, starring Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo
and Catherine Keener. And as if that wasn't enough, he is a
partner in Emerald TV Productions and serves as Chief
Creative Officer for his management company, Primary Wave.
Update: This is now called
"The Good Life" and premieres June 23.

TV Network in 2015
Burbank, Calif. - Nov 7, 2013—The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS)
and Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) today announced an
unprecedented deal for Marvel TV to bring multiple original
series of live-action adventures of four of Marvel’s most
popular characters exclusively to the world’s leading

agreement calls for Marvel to develop four serialized
programs leading to a miniseries programming event.
Led by a series focused on “Daredevil,” followed by “Jessica
Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” the epic will unfold
over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix
members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of
Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum

team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.

NBC Buys ‘Wizard Of Oz’ Drama From
Matt Arnold As Frank Baum’s Classic Becomes The Hottest TV
Property This Season
EXCLUSIVE: A century after the release of L. Frank Baum’s
Wizard Of Oz series, the books have become the toast of this
TV development season. NBC just nabbed Emerald City, an
Oz-themed drama from Siberia creator/showrunner Matthew
Arnold. Two weeks ago, CBS put in development Dorothy, a
medical soap inspired by the characters and themes from The
Wizard of Oz. I hear there is another Oz drama making the
rounds from Heroes alums Adam Armus and Nora Kay Foster,
with Heroes creator Tim Kring supervising. And just last
month, Syfy picked up for development a miniseries titled
Warriors Of Oz from director Timur Bekmambetov, a
fantasy-action reimagining of the classic story. The great
interest in Wizard Of Oz is not entirely unexpected as the
title has been getting a lot of attention in conjunction
with the upcoming 75th anniversary of the classic 1939
feature, which will include a 3D re-release of the Judy
Garland starrer. It also comes on the heels of the success
of Oz The Great And Powerful earlier this year.
Emerald City, which Arnold is writing and executive
producing through Universal Television, is described as a
dark reimagining of the classic tale of Oz in the vein of
Game Of Thrones, drawing upon stories from Baum’s original
14 books. Following the success of the 1900 The Wonderful
Wizard Of Oz, Baum wrote 13 sequel novels. Emerald City
reunites Arnold with NBC, which acquired his mystery drama
series Siberia that had been financed independently and sold
internationally before finding a U.S. home on NBC as a
summer series. Arnold wrote and directed the pilot and the
season finale. He also co-wrote three additional episodes
and directed seven of the first season’s 13 episodes.
Arnold, repped by ICM Partners, David Engel at Circle Of
Confusion and attorney Jennifer Levy, recently wrote and
directed the supernatural thriller feature Shadow People.
Dynasty Set To Return on Big Screen
TV Series Creators Plan Movie Reboot
Somewhere in the world there is an episode of Dynasty airing right now.
More than 30 years after its creation, the iconic nighttime soap opera still resonates with audiences, so show creators Richard and Esther Shapiro are following the trend set by the big screen remakes of series like Sex and the City, The A-Team, Charlie’s Angels, Starsky & Hutch and the planned 21 Jump Street film by rebooting Dynasty as a new film franchise.
“The time is right,” said Esther Shapiro, co-creator of the series with her husband Richard. “Nostalgia has always been big, but we want to take it a step further. We want to go back to the beginning with these characters and use the film to trace their roots. We’re taking Blake Carrington back to his young manhood and when he met Alexis, and setting the movie in the Mad Men era of the 1960s. It will give us the opportunity to start fresh, without the constraints that television placed on our characters in the series.”
