We asked Howard TV's executive producer Doug Goodstein some
questions, and here are his answers!
1. Howard made his mark "pushing the envelope" and fighting the FCC.
Now that he's on Sirius radio, where there basically is no envelope,
does he (or his writers) find it easier or more difficult to come up
with interesting and challenging material?
Well it's never been about pushing the envelope. I think it's all about
trying to figure out what's going to be interesting and funny. It has
gotten a lot easier now that the handcuffs are off. Now everyone on the
staff is free to pursue any topic that they can think of, it's
definitely freed everyone creatively.
2. How will HOWARD TV ON DEMAND be different than Howard's E! show?
First of all, Howard TV on Demand is different because it a whole
channel & not just one nightly TV show. We have all the new Sirius
shows, Classic Howard Stern shows from all the years at E! and even our
very own original productions.
Secondly, the shows we put on Howard TV are different because the
network restrictions are gone. The shows are uncensored and the lengths
of the show can be whatever we want them to be...that means no longer
editing out good material that didn't fit in. We can also program
directly to what the fans want. If they want a whole category of sybian
rides then we can do that.
3. Will this be available on DISH and DirecTV or only cable?
I haven't heard anything about Howard TV going to Dish or DirecTV.
4. What exactly does your job entail?
My responsibilities entail overseeing every episode we produce.
Supervising our producing & editing staff (which runs almost 24 hours a
day), Making sure all our episodes get delivered to the network on time,
coming up with original programming ideas, and my favorite
part...holding the microphone during sybian rides.
5. For those of us who haven't seen Howard's new show on Sirius,
can you tell us if it is different than his previous show (and if so,
how)?
First of all, Howard TV on Demand is different than the E! show because
it a whole channel & not just one nightly TV show. Howard TV has all
the new Sirius shows, Classic Howard Stern shows from all the years at
E! and even our very own original productions.
6. Will there be any more Howard Stern movies (the first one was
awesome!)?
Private Parts was great but I haven't heard about any movies in the
horizon...but with Howard Stern you never know what will happen.
7. Will Howard's older shows (especially his great 1990 syndicated
show) ever be available on DVD (are there any plans to release them)?
If you're talking about Howard's old WWOR TV show, then I haven't heard
about any plans to release them on D VD.
8. What advice would you give to any Stern fans who want to be on
his show or who want to be DJ's like Howard?
If you want to get on the show you need to have an interesting story to
tell or be a hot chick that wants to get naked & ride the sybian.
9. Has the show found it easier or more difficult to book guests on
Howard's show since he moved to Sirius?
I think it's the same. We really don't aggressively book guests like
most shows. Most of the time we wait for them to come to us. Howard
doesn't need guests to put on a good show. He would rather talk about
the interesting things that happen in his life anyway.
10. Was it difficult to find the "best" clips for the preview? How
long did it take you?
Yes, it was difficult putting this special together. The Howard TV One
Cent Preview, which is available this weekend November 3rd -5th, is a
compilation of all the greatest moments from the first year of Howard TV
on Demand. In that past year we've produced over 500 episodes, so we had
a lot of shows to go through in order to compile our top moments. It
took our team about a month to put the special together.
