DVD TV Show Reviews
This is the sad and beautiful true story of Tejano singer,
Selena Quintanilla-Perez. The film chronicles Selena’s life from childhood until
her tragic death in 1995. Selena was born in Texas in April of 1971. She
followed in the footsteps of her musician father, Abraham Quintanilla. Selena
was only 9 when she became the lead singer in the famly’s band. Brother A.B. and
sister Suzette rounded out the band. Father Abraham worked as the band’s
manager. Selena was only 24 when the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar
fatally shot her. Selena was extremely talented. Had her life not been cut
short, Selena would have continued to climb the record charts. Selena was just
beginning to cross over as an artist when she died. Selena was married to fellow
musician, Chris Perez.
Jennifer Lopez was terrific as Selena. Also a singer and dancer,
Lopez fit the part beautifully. It seemed as if she actually became Selena in
this movie. Edward James Olmos (Miami Vice, Stand and Deliver) was equally
fabulous as Abraham Quintanilla. His performance was believable and emotional.
Selena’s mother was played by Constance Marie (The George Lopez Show).
This special edition DVD set includes a special “making of
Selena: 10 Years Later.” It also includes numerous extra scenes. The movie is a
must for Selena fans. It’s also a must for music fans. If you’re not a Selena
fan, you will be one by the end of this movie. Since I was already a Selena fan,
I absolutely loved this movie.
