Primetime Show Reviews
"One Born
Every Minute"
review by Suzanne
Premieres Tuesday, November 29, at 10pm ET/PT on Lifetime.
This is the second season of a good reality show. I don't watch most reality
shows, but this one is very real compared to most.
Please read my review of the first season.
It pretty much tells you my opinion of the show and how it works. It's still
a good show!

YOU ARE INVITED LIFETIME’S ONE BORN EVERY MINUTE TO CELEBRATE SECOND
BIRTHDAY ON NOVEMBER 29
Second Season of Acclaimed Hospital Docu-Series Literally Capturing Life
inside Ohio Maternity Ward Returns with Ten All-New Hour-Long Episodes
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 20, 2011) – Set to celebrate its second birthday, Lifetime’s
highly anticipated and emotional docu-series One Born Every Minute will return for season two
on Tuesday, November 29, at 10:00pm ET/PT. Narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis, the acclaimed
program takes an in-depth look at life inside the maternity ward at Riverside Methodist Hospital
in Columbus, Ohio, like no other program on television. One Born Every Minute’s premiere will
immediately follow the debut of Lifetime’s all-new reality program America’s Supernanny.
With exclusive access to Riverside Methodist’s facilities – ranging from the front desk and
nurse’s station to the delivery and operating rooms -- and its team of doctors, nurses and
specialists, One Born Every Minute’s 40 cameras roll 24 hours a day, seven days a week to
uniquely capture the high drama, unexpected humor and overwhelming emotion of child birth as
new lives begin and others change forever at the hospital. Lifetime will air ten all-new hour-long
episodes of One Born Every Minute during its second season.
Highlights of One Born Every Minute’s second season include an array of intense, joyous,
riveting and tender moments numerous expectant parents will experience during the series this
year. Among the couples allowing One Born Every Minute and Lifetime viewers to witness their
familial milestones are young couple Jada and Kareem, whose competitive mothers literally come
to blows in the hospital, letting the seething tension between them boil over and overshadow the
birth of their first grandchild; high school sweethearts Katie and Tim, who thought their young
family was complete with two children but are about to deliver their third -- thanks to a surprise
pregnancy that caught everybody off-guard; Beth and Rocky, the off-and-on couple who met
online and now must endure the added pressure of intense family criticism about Rocky’s
troubled past on the most important day of their lives; and first-time parents-to-be Kelley and
Chris, a couple longing for a healthy baby after struggling through the heartbreaking experiences
no one ever wants to face -- two miscarriages and a stillborn child.
Based on the popular U.K. format originated by Dragonfly, the program is produced by fellow
Shine Group company Reveille, with Elisabeth Murdoch, Howard T. Owens, Heather Schuster,
Robin Ashbrook, Sanjay Singhal and Jack Tarantino executive producing the second season,
alongside Rob Sharenow, Gena McCarthy and Sandy Varo Jarrell of Lifetime.

How
long have you been at Riverside?
23 years
How did you choose to be a doctor?
I
was told in middle school that I should be a doctor because of my grades, but
since that time the sciences were what I was good at and what I enjoyed. Believe
me, my papers in Literature classes in college were the level of a 4th grader.
What is your favorite part of the job/least favorite?
The delivery of a healthy
baby is still the best part of the job, pictures of the baby after delivery
never get old. The drive in to do a delivery at 3am when the temperature is
below zero is least favorite, especially when the nurses make fun of my bed head
when I get here.
Are you married, do you have kids, dating?
Married for 23
years, 3 kids. Kyle age 21 is a chef here in town. Austin 18, at Bowling Green
studying to be in federal law enforcement. Emily 15, freshman, a regional
champion in gymnastics.
What’s a typical shift like at work?
My usual day starts
at 7am, meetings as the chairman, rounding on patients, either covering the
hospital or heading off to the office. The problem is that 7am start may
continue till dinner the next day.
How do you describe your job to people?
My
job is a job that has a lot of stress, changes daily, often having to be in 3
places at one time (i.e. balancing delivery, babies, operating, business hours,
chairman meetings) but with a lot of reward at the end.
Any other interesting
info about you.
The whole challenge in this job has been balancing family and
job. I hate missing events and luckily I have not missed many despite the hours
I spend here.

Riverside is like
a home away from home which is good because I am here as much or more than home.
The people here are like family. We take care of each other, pick each other up
when were down.
What are your interests/hobbies outside of your job?
I love
being outside, boating, skiing. I enjoy playing hockey – I still play one to two
times per week. Where else at the age of 49 can you hit someone and only get in
trouble for 5 minutes. I have always enjoyed watching my kids in sports, my
oldest boy in football, Austin in hockey and Emily in gymnastics. Enjoy scuba
diving, the best part is all my kids dive with me as well. I’ve also tried
skydiving, which is a huge rush. And enjoy working out

5 years
How did
you choose to be a nurse?
I always knew that I wanted to have a career in the
medicine field. As an undecided freshman, I talked with a sorority sister who
was in the nursing program at Ohio State and I immediately became interested in
nursing. Later that year, I applied and was accepted into the program
What is
your favorite part of the job/least favorite?
My favorite part of being a labor
and delivery nurse is witnessing the reactions of my patient’s faces when they
see and meet their little one for the first time. I also love watching the new
grandparents enter the room for the first time after the delivery and seeing
pure happiness written all over their faces. My least favorite part of being a
labor and delivery nurse is at times (on busy, busy nights) feeling like I can’t
do all that I want to do to comfort and bond with great families (as much as I’d
like to) during their labor and delivery experience
Are you married, do you have

Most days on out unit are very fast paced and busy. We
typically deliver over 20 babies a day and for most of our nurses that means
non-stop patient care. From education to relaxation techniques, from coaching
to monitoring, we are responsible for the care and well being of the mother and
her unborn child. As one patient delivers, another (or three) typically comes
rolling on the unit in labor
How do you describe your job to people?
I
describe my job to others as an exciting and very rewarding career. How fun to
spend your days (and nights) helping to bring life into the world. It’s very fun
to meet new families and act as an advocate for my patients. It’s great to feel
so appreciated!
