"Into the West"
Article by Nadine 6/10/05

Great news for
TV fans! Just as we were beginning to sink into the rerun/reality quicksand,
TNT throws us a very strong, very exciting rope. Beginning tonight, the
mini-series “Into The West” begins airing on TNT. It stars a cadre of our TV
favorites including Keri Russell, Christian Kane, Josh Brolin, Rachel Leigh
Cook, Craig Sheffer, and Skeet Ulrich. In addition, big-screen faves Matthew
Modine, Sean Astin, Keith Carradine, Gary Busey and Judge Reinhold are also
featured. Perhaps the biggest name involved is someone who is not even on the
screen. That would be Steven Spielberg, who is executive producer of the
project.
“Into The
West” is an epic saga which spans 65 years (1825-1890). It is the story of the
westward movement of the first American settlers and how it impacted not only
the settlers themselves but also the Native Americans. The viewer sees the
evolution of the nation through the eyes of two families. One is the Wheelers, a
white West Virginia pioneer family moving westward in a bid to grasp the
American dream, the other is a Native American family trying to hold on to their
land, culture and everything else that they hold dear. Inevitably, the two
families clash. They also intermix.
According
to the Hollywood Reporter, “Into The West” is TV “worth watching” that
illustrates “... the conflict between the native peoples and white settlers as a
culture clash without reducing it to a simplistic good-vs.-evil tale”. Enriching
the overall story, is the inclusion of true to life events such as the Gold Rush
and the Battle of Wounded Knee.
"General
Hospital" fans may be interested in the fan that Tyler Christopher (Nikolas)
will be appearing in the series as well.
You will
have three chances each weekend to watch each episode; each will air on Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday nights. Three nights in a row of Tyler, Christian,
Skeet…!!! Bear in mind they will debut in different episodes. This is the
television event of the summer. Do not miss it!!!
