Nelson BrancoFreelance Entertainment Journalist Nelson Branco has reportedly passed away. He worked for TV Guide, Soap Opera Update, Soap Opera Weekly and other publications as well as Entertainment Tonight and CTV. He worked in both U.S. and Canadian entertainment news.  He had his own online soap magazine, Soap Opera Uncensored, for a while. He was often a controversial or antagonistic figure, but he was also beloved by many. No one could question his love for the soaps. No cause of death or other information is available yet.

All of the soaps will air Monday, July 4th; however, GH will be a re-run from November 24, 2021.

The 49TH ANNUAL DAYTIME EMMY® AWARDS will be broadcast LIVE Friday, June 24 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974, honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime. In addition, in recognition of the marked increase in content and entries for children’s programming, 2022 will mark the first annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, with relevant categories separating from the Daytime Emmys into their own competition and ceremony. All awards are judged by a pool of peer professionals from across the television industry.

B&B and Y&R are pre-empted Friday, December 31 for CBS coverage of the Sun Bowl.
GH will be a re-run of the February 24, 2021, episode due to New Year's Eve.

ABC The Story of Soaps (5/19) ‘THE STORY OF SOAPS,’ A TWO-HOUR TELEVISION EVENT FROM ABC AND PEOPLE, DEBUTS TUESDAY, MAY 19, AT 8:00 P.M. ‘THE STORY OF SOAPS,’ A TWO-HOUR TELEVISION EVENT FROM ABC AND PEOPLE, DEBUTS TUESDAY, MAY 19, AT 8:00 P.M. Featuring Alec Baldwin, Carol Burnett, Andy Cohen, Bryan Cranston, Vivica A. Fox, Jon Hamm, Susan Lucci, Denise Richards, John Stamos, Chandra Wilson and Many More ABC and PEOPLE present “The Story of Soaps,” a two-hour prime-time television event highlighting the iconic impact of the soap opera. Featuring an incredible panel of experts and voices, “The Story of Soaps” airs TUESDAY, MAY 19 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. “The Story of Soaps” explores how no genre of television has laid deeper roots into our cultural consciousness and serialized storytelling than the soap opera. In today’s shifting television landscape, “The Story of Soaps” traces how female creators migrated from radio to television to become the dominant force in daytime for more than three decades. Today, that legacy is alive and well all over prime time and reality, and much of what propels modern television traces its roots back to those first sprawling, steamy storylines. “The Story of Soaps” takes an extensive look at this iconic, impactful genre and the cultural phenomenon its massive impact has had on the world at large.

"Playing Reva Shayne was so much more than just a job and a paycheck. It was the role of a lifetime." -Kim Zimmer, from I'm Just Sayin'
The landscape of daytime television will dramatically change next year when soap operas All My Children and One Life to Live go off the air, cancelled after more than forty years on television. No one knows what the demise of these shows will mean for television and for the affected actors better than Guiding Light veteran and one of daytime's favorites, Kim Zimmer. Her show was cancelled in 2009, ending one of television's longest-running success stories and leaving Zimmer without a job.
This August, New American Library is excited to publish Zimmer's new book, I'M JUST SAYIN'!: Three Deaths, Seven Husbands, and a Clone! My Life as a Daytime Diva (New American Library Hardcover; August 2, 2011; $26.95; ISBN: 978-0-451-23343-1).
Zimmer, a four-time Emmy Award-winning actress, is known around the world for her twenty-seven year portrayal of Reva Shayne on the popular daytime drama Guiding Light. While on the show, Zimmer played a vixen, a manic-depressive, an Amish woman, a time traveler, a Civil War belle, a talk show host, a cancer survivor, a loving mother, and a devoted wife. But now in her new memoir, Zimmer shares the story of the woman behind Reva-from her beginnings as a small-town Midwestern girl to landing one of the greatest roles in the history of daytime television and becoming a soap opera icon.
In I'M JUST SAYIN'!, Zimmer also talks about:
* Why soap operas are going off the air after decades of popularity
* Her struggles with alcohol and how it impacted her family and her career
* How she balanced being a busy working mother (her "greatest role") and a full-time career woman
* Her encounters with such celebrities as Kathleen Turner, Alec Baldwin, and Oprah Winfrey
* How she has managed to maintain a successful marriage for thirty years
* The difficulties of losing a job later in life, especially in a field that is youth and beauty focused, and how she continues to pursue her acting dreams
Blatantly honest and wildly entertaining, I'M JUST SAYIN'! takes readers on an insightful journey through the parallel lives of Reva Shayne and Kim Zimmer and chronicles the stories behind Guiding Light, the longest-running drama in television and radio history (72 years!).

In an interview with Carolyn Hinsey on 11/15, Sonia Blangiardo, AMC Supervising Producer, cites the IATSE union dispute over pay rates for the crew as the reason for both the online OLTL & AMC's halt of production on June 5, 2013. The ABC lawsuit, low ratings, and eventually actors getting other jobs or being pregnant (AMC's Eden Riegel, Bianca & Paula Garces, Lea) when their characters were not, contributed to Prospect Park's problems. Even though the union dispute was resolved on June 20, production did not resume in August as planned, because all of the above obstacles "discouraged potential investors." Carolyn states that half of OLTL was unrecognizable to her, but Sonia thinks their biggest flaw was concentrating too much on the “Wow Factor” for events. Sometimes, they lost track of why the event was happening in first place. To read more, click here.

Prospect Park has filed a $25 million breach of contract lawsuit against ABC, claiming that the network has violated the licensing agreement it forged with PP two years ago and has been sabotaging the company's attempt to relaunch AMC and OLTL online. PP claims that ABC has actively caused problems, including refusing to transfer the website addresses for the shows and failing to consult on storylines involving OLTL characters "borrowed" by GH.
