1998 Event

Hi! Okay, here is the next installment of my weekend fun. My husband joined me for the
weekend. He is such a great guy; he drove up with me, took me to Beverly Hills, and then
spent the day shopping while I went to the set. Then he drove back that night to pick me
up! We stayed at the Westin by LA airport - this place is gorgeous. This is where the Take
a Chance with the Stars annual benefit was held Saturday night. Crystal Carson (Julia
Barrett) puts this on every year.
It was a huge event in the "Grand Ballroom". Many, many, soap actors from
Sunset Beach, GH, PC, and a few from other shows came to sign autographs, pose for
pictures, deal blackjack, and raise money for a good cause. I saw Becky (Elizabeth), I
told her how much I enjoyed watching her work the day before, but I didn't want to disturb
her on the set. She was very sweet and incredibly beautiful. She is so photogenic--I don't
think I've ever seen a bad picture of her. My friend, Joan, took a great one of her and
Jonathan at the GH lunch. She had it blown up for me - wow! Becky's manager had called me
last week and she mentioned that Becky reads all of her fan mail. Doesn't sound like
Jonathan is able to.
Also Julian (Jerry), was a charmer once again--he is such a doll. He kept talking and
talking and had quite a long line. But he spent time with all the fans; I actually
apologized to people behind me as I walked back - I swear it wasn't me doing all the
gabbing! A couple of weeks ago, I had written him and asked for picture info (and
included a large stamped envelope) - when I got home I had a nice pic, personalized and
autographed by him with a letter! I also received a picture back from Becky. So feel free
to write to your favs, some can take several months depending on their volume of mail.
Anyway, back to the event. I saw Nolan North (Chris, PC) he was very kind. I bought two
8x10's ($5 each) for a friend in England who adores him; he signed them both to her - one
said "From Port Charles to England". He is so funny, and a great guy. Also saw
Jay Pickett and Lisa Ann Hadley, both gracious and warm as always. The highlight of my
evening, though, was playing black jack with Wally as the dealer! I was VERY lucky that
someone got up and offered me her spot! He was charming, witty, and pretty good dealer -
if anyone was there and got a picture of him please send it to me - I will pay or trade as
my pic of him dealing didn't come out! His line and Vanessa's were among the longest for
the evening!
All the GHers had much longer lines than actors from the other shows - though the PC
actors did very well, especially Jay and Michael Dietz. I didn't make it up to Lisa (V's)
table but talked to her after the event. She was very sweet and seems as thrilled as we
are with a storyline! Wally commented, when I asked if this would be a Jax/V/Ned triangle,
that it is more like a V/Ned/Alexis triangle. He seems happy as well to be singing again
and to have a storyline! Rena wasn't able to attend.
One of the best moments was when I went up to Vanessa, she remembered me from her
auction in July - Joan and I had donated tapes to the event, so she gave me a big hug! I
was in a perfect spot to get some nice shots of her with the marines! Yes, there was a
group of about 4 marines in full dress uniform; they came by and she had her picture taken
with them. She looked incredibly beautiful--her hair was very curly. When I asked if I
could take a picture with her, she had me come around the table and gave me the biggest
hug - of course I was so surprised I have the most idiotic expression on my face! My
family has teased me no end, but she looks great! LOL!!
The evening was very fun, and I was so busy and so excited that I never did make it to
the buffet. There were many items up for silent auction. I bid on Sabrina (my daughter's
fav show) but it went for $220 so I decided to pass. There were other items like scripts,
picture packages, set tours (one with Becky went for $700 and one with Lisa Cerasoli went
for $500). I bid on those for awhile, now that I'm hooked on tours! It was so fun, I
highly, highly recommend it.
As always, one of the best parts was meeting up with friends and saying hi to everyone.
There was so much to do. The actors came in for a half hour, then different actors would
come in - when the GH actors were there it got very crowded. So you really only had a half
hour to get in line to see different actors, it you missed them that was it. But kinda
like with the GH luncheon, you really can't see everyone so you have to make choices on
who you most want to see.
