The Doctor and The Prince
Almost ten years ago, Nikolas Cassadine was crushing on Robin Scorpio.
Nikolas was shot in the throat and suffered from Broca’s Aphasia. He shut
everyone out of his life, except for Emily Quartermaine. When Emily couldn’t
help him anymore, she asked Robin to assist Nikolas. This arrangement worked
for the both of them. Robin was trying to forget about Jason, while a
depressed Nikolas was trying to shut everyone he cared about out of his
life.
The more time they spent together, the closer they got. Robin was no longer
a stranger and Nikolas found a friend who complimented him. Also, Nikolas
was able to speak again, which he praised Robin for. Their friendship could
have blossomed into a romance, only the timing was not right. Despite the
self-imposed distance, Robin still loved Jason.
Now, due to Craig’s threats, they have to make everyone believe that they
are a couple. She’s in love with commitment phobic Patrick, who finally has
committed to her and he’s in love with Emily (again), who just got over his
past affair with Courtney. My only question is could Robin and Nikolas
actually fall in love?
If you think about it, this is the typical soap set up, pretending to be in
love to cover up a “secret” reason. This is how Emily and Nikolas first
began, trying to convince Zander that they were in love to hide the fact
that she had cancer. Jason convinced the world that Sam was carrying his
child so that the truth wouldn’t be revealed.
Although Craig’s threats don’t entice the two, this pairing has potential.
Robin wants security, loyalty and a family. Nikolas is a prince, who was
brought up to be the perfect specimen of a man. He’s secure, loyal (to a
fault) and is a single father. He’s not the jealous type and there is no
immediate or constant danger that surrounds him.
Robin could be Nikolas’ ideal partner. She’s self-sufficient, extremely
smart (she’s a doctor), caring, extremely loyal trusting (to a fault) and
would make the perfect mother to his child. Her only concern would be her
HIV status, which could cause some problems, such as, if they wanted to have
kids.
Whether the “forced” Robin-Nikolas pairing works or not, I can’t wait to see
their performance as exposed “secret” lovers. It’s unlike them both, this
was never Robin’s style and Nikolas has learned from a past mistake
(Courtney), to do it again. This will be entertaining if not anything else.
Robin and Nikolas do have the chemistry to make it believable. All I can say
is “bring it!” Also, I like Craig’s style.
