Jake was known as "Joey"
throughout his childhood, until his Michael Lowry ‘incarnation’. His
parents are Ruth (Parker) and Joe Martin, Sr., pillars of the Pine
Valley community. His father had three children from his first marriage:
Tara, Jeff, and Bobby (who disappeared). Before she married Joe, Ruth
had adopted Phillip Brent. Before Jake's birth, Ruth and Joe adopted Tad
Gardner.
Kidnapped by rebels while
working for Cambias Industries' AIDS program in Southern Sudan in May,
2008, Jake was rescued by Aidan Devane with the help of Zach Slater and
Ryan Lavery and brought back to Pine Valley against his will.
