Phyllis & Drucilla - The Beginning
by
Christopher
It was the quest for Damon Porter
that crossed the paths of mouthy Drucilla Winters and
fiery Phyllis Abbott. Newman Enterprises had purchased
Satine Cosmetics and wanted the former Head Chemist
responsible for its creation. Phyllis and Neil were
working on getting him when Dru, Neil's wife, stole
Damon's business card and set out to lure the man to
Jabot, Newman's competition. Phyllis was furious and the
battle-lines were drawn. When Mr. Porter finally settled
in Genoa City, both married women sought his attention,
and both chastised the other for doing so. While Phyllis
argued that Dru wasn't as committed to Neil as she
claimed, Dru retorted that Phyllis was a disloyal wife for
working for Victor Newman, husband Jack's greatest enemy.
When Damon's former colleague, Vanessa Lerner, informed
him about an orchid with special hair straightening
qualities that was growing in Japan, Drucilla convinced
Neil to move their wedding to the exotic locale, in the
hopes of being able to help Damon find the flower and save
Jabot from financial ruin. Neil brought Phyllis along for
the trip. Unbeknownst to all, Lily found the flower no one
else could seem to locate. She included it in a bouquet
she made for her Mother. When Dru tossed the bouquet,
Phyllis caught it. In short order, she realized exactly
why everyone was so interested in her flowers, and took
the orchid to Newman for testing.
Phyllis gave Jack an orchid to make things fair, but stole
it back when she learned he already had one of his own.
She skipped town with the flowers, while Dru begged Neil
to get one back so that she wouldn't lose her job at
Jabot. Though Neil promised Dru an orchid, Phyllis refused
to hand it over, infuriating Dru and making Neil look like
a liar. When Phyllis did return, she and Jack separated
and she became involved with Damon. Dru was disgusted by
the union.
Attempting to prove the hair straightener Damon created
from the flower really worked, Dru used it on herself
though it wasn't tested. Her hair fell out immediately,
and Phyllis was there to taunt her. Dru swore that Phyllis
was the most hateful woman she had ever met, and vowed to
make her pay. She then went to Diane, Phyllis' enemy, and
suggested they break up Damon and Phyllis. At the Mother's
Day Brunch, Drucilla goaded Phyllis into an argument,
trying to keep her occupied while Diane made her move on
Damon. Phyllis gained the upper hand by ripping Dru's hat
off her head and exposing her baldness to most of Genoa
City. Dru dissolved in tears, shocked that even Phyllis
could be so cruel. Phyllis merely stood back grinning,
knowing she'd scored a major victory on her foe.
