Chapter 1

It was about 11:45 PM on a Saturday night.  Billy, Mac, Raul, and Sasha were all in the car on their way home from a late night movie that was playing in the next town.  (Billy and Mac have been a couple for about six months while Raul and Sasha for about four months.)  They had just been to see the movie Eyes Wide Shut.  Even though the guys knew that it would be a major chick flick they loved their woman and agreed to go.  “I totally loved that movie, didn’t you Billy?” Mac said.  “Yeah actually it was pretty good”  “Just pretty good,” Mac replied.  Raul jumped in, with a grin on his face; “Ok you two love birds stop acting like a married couple again.  It was just a movie.  What did you think Sasha?”  Sasha just sat there leaned up against Raul’s shoulder not saying a word.  “Sasha?” said Mac as she turned around, “Ah how cute Raul she is sound asleep in your arms.  That sounds good myself” Billy winked at her.

She knew that since he was driving she couldn’t very well lean right up against him.  He said, “Why don’t you go ahead and go to sleep we still have about 20 minutes before we are going to be home.  You can use my lap as a pillow,” Billy said with a smile.  “Ok” Mac laid down using his lap as a pillow.  “How about a little music Raul?” Billy asked.  “Sounds good.”  Billy turns on the music and they continue to drive down the road in silence.  About three miles down, the road looks straight for as far as the eyes can see.  All of a sudden they see headlights.  As the car gets closer and closer it looks as though the lights are in their lane.  “It looks like they are coming right at us!” Yelled Raul.  “I know” Billy shouted back, “Hang on there is only one thing I can do.”  Billy jerked the wheel to the left just as the other car did.  “OH GOD!!!!” screamed Billy.  At the same time that Raul yelled, “We are going to hit them.”  The only sound in the night was the sound of these two cars hitting head on in the middle of a deserted road.  ‘CRASH’

FLASHFORWARD

Billy is sitting in his room when Jack knocks on the door.  “Hey little brother, how you doing?”  Billy is sitting there on the bed with two broken legs.  “Oh, I guess all right with everything that can be expected.”  “Well here this came in the mail for you today,” Jack says as he hands Billy a package.  “Thanks man.”  “No problem, I will come and check on you later,” Jack says as he walks out the door.  Billy starts to un-wrap the package.  When he gets it open there is a book and a note.  The note read: Billy, this is my diary.  If you are getting this something bad has happened.  I want you to have it.  Billy just stares at it with tears.  He opens the diary.

April 1, 2000

Dear Diary: I think I am so in love with this guy in school.  He asked me to the prom.  I immediately agreed to go with him, then afterwards felt kind of embarrassed for excepting so quickly.  Do you think that he knows how I feel?  Does he feel the same way?  I really hope so!!  I came straight home from school today and told my dad and grandmother.  They were so very happy for me.  My grandmother said that this weekend she would take me all over the world to find the perfect dress for prom.  Oh diary I am so happy.  Goodnight.

Chapter 2

April 2, 2000

Dear Diary: I went to school today feeling on cloud nine.  I am so happy.  When I got to school Raul already knew that Billy had asked me.  I guess he probably knew before I did seeing how they are best friends and all.  Well he seemed really happy for us.  He said he was thinking about asking this girl named Tina, but he wasn’t sure yet.  Tomorrow is the day that I get to go shopping for my prom dress oh I am excited.  Well I better get to bed early tonight as I have a very busy day ahead of me.  Goodnight.

April 5, 2000

Dear Diary: I know that it has been a few days since I last wrote, but we ended up spending the whole weekend looking for the perfect prom dress.  But we found it!!  Oh it looks so lovely.  I know that Billy will just love it.  I can’t wait for him to see it, but he can’t see it until the night of the prom when I come walking down those steps.  Well I am very tired from our long trip.  I am also very excited about going to school and seeing Billy tomorrow.  Goodnight.

Dear Diary: I AM IN LOVE, although I haven’t told him that yet.  I had a wonderful day today.  I went to school this morning and Billy was waiting at my locker for me.  He had one single red rose in his hand and asked me if I would be his girlfriend.  I thought that I was going to start crying right there.  I told him that I was wondering when he was going to bite the bullet and ask me.  I mean gosh we had already made plans to go to the prom together, how much longer did he need to ask me out too?  Oh and another good thing happened today.  Raul asked Tina to the prom and she said yes that she would go.  I am so happy for him.  I mean I felt really bad and all when we broke up last winter.  But I am very glad that we stayed friends.  Well it has been a long day so goodnight.

Dear Diary: School was not fun today.  There is this girl named Brittany, she is a real bitch.  She came up to my locker after school and started threatening me, telling me that my relationship with Billy wasn’t going to last because she wanted him.  I remember her saying to me “And I ALWAYS get what I want.”  I could have just reached out and slapped her for that one.  I can not believe that she said that to me.  I mean yeah she is sort of pretty, but she is a slut.  I mean if Billy wanted to date someone like that he would have asked her to the prom not me.  Well She can just live with the fact that him and I are a couple now.  I think I have rambled to you enough tonight.  Goodnight.

Billy looks up from the pages with tears running down his eyes.  He remembers the days that she has written about.  He thinks to himself about the day that he asked her to prom.  He knew that she sounded really excited and anxious about it.  But what she didn’t know is that he was too.  He smiles when he thinks about how much he just wanted to kiss her right there, but he decided that he needed to wait until they were at least a couple.  He remembered how he so badly wanted to ask her out, but was worried that a girl like her wouldn’t date a guy like him. 

Chapter 3

He thought that if he asked her to the prom and she said yes then he would have a better chance of getting her as a girlfriend too.  Again the tears started to roll.  He quietly says to out loud, “How much I miss her.  How happy I am that she has given me the chance to see what she has thought about me all this time.”  He lays his head back down and turns a few pages.  “I wonder what else she has in here?”

Dear Diary: I am so excited that I can’t wait for tomorrow.  I can not believe that the prom is already here.  Tina is coming over to my house at 1:00 so that we can get ready for the prom together.  Her dress is so pretty, I know that Raul will start to drool the minute that he sees her.  Not to mention what Billy will think when he sees me in my dress.  It is already after 11 and I can not stop thinking about tomorrow.  I better try going to sleep again so that I do not fall asleep during the prom.  Goodnight.

Dear Diary: Sorry that I did not write in here last night but I was really tired when I get home.  It was after 2 in the morning when I crawled into bed.  I am so glad that my dad let me stay out extra late for this special occasion.  I think between him, my grandmother and Billy’s family they must have taken like five rolls of film.  They were going nuts.  Not to mention that we even got our pictures taken at the prom.  Oh where do I start?  It was the best night of my life.  Where do I begin?  Billy about fell over dead when he saw me.  All I could do was blush.  Oh by the way Raul was speechless when he saw Tina in her dress.  Then the Limo that the guys rented was fabulous.  I totally lost it when my dad said that they guys in their Limo were here to pick us up.  Then we went to the prom.  It looked oh so lovely.  The colors that they had the place decorated in where beautiful!!!  But Billy said that they were not as beautiful as I was.  Isn’t he so sweet?  Brittany was her bitchy self.  She walked in with that drunken jerk of a boy she hangs out with JT.  I think he was pretty well smashed last night.  The first thing that she did when she got here was walk right up to MY boyfriend and told him to make sure that he said the last dance for her.  Then she looked at me and giggled, “oops, I guess that means I will dance with him twice tonight.  You know the last dance AND when we get crowned King and Queen.  Oh well, I told you I would win in this game.”  Then she walked off.  OH AND BOY DID THIS MAKE HER MAD!!!  You should have seen the look on her face when they announced the winners.  Of course my charming Billy was King.  But you should have seen the twinkle in his eyes when they said, “And this year’s queen is….Mac…”

Billy looked up from the book.  He did indeed have a twinkle in his eye when they announced the queen.  He first thought was wow and then he was thinking that he was very happy that he got to dance that dance with her in front of everyone.  He also remembered the look on Brit’s face when she didn’t win.  She was not only mad that she lost, but that she lost to Mac.  He remembers hearing her run out of the room crying something about not winning, but he was paying more attention to his beautiful queen and man did she look good right at that very moment.  His thoughts were interrupted when there was a knock at the door.  “Come in.”  Jill walks in the room,

Chapter 4

“Hi son, how are you doing?  I brought you some dinner.  Your brother said you got a package today.  What was it?” Billy replied, “I was sent Mac’s diary.”  “Now come on son, why would they do a thing like that?  Don’t people realize that is a female’s personal possession?  Anyway I will leave you to eat.  I will have your father check on you later.”  “Ok, bye mom.”  “Bye Billy.”  Jill leaves an Billy eats his dinner.  After he is finished he sets his plate on the floor and picks back up the diary.  He flips a few more pages thinking that he wants a glimpse of everything that she has written and figures that he can go back and read every word later.

May 6.2000

Dear Diary: We have been together for one month now.  I am so happy.  Billy came over last night with a dozen roses and some candles.  He made me the best dinner.  I am so in love.  (She starts writing down what she is signing, “everytime you need a baby  i get kinda crazy in my head for u  and i dont know what to do  and oh baby, i get kinda shaky when they mention you  i just lose my cool  my friends tell me  something else comes over me  and i think i know what it is i think im in love  boy i think that i am in love with you  got me doing silly things when it comes to you in love boy i think that i am in love with you i think im in love got me telling all my friends what i feel for u just the other night, baby i saw you hangin you were with your crew i was with mines too you took me by surprise when you turned and looked me in my eyes oh you really blew my mind

i dont know whats gotten into me but i think i know what it is….

I think that I am falling in love with him.  But how do I tell him without scaring him away?  Goodnight.

Billy looks up from the diary.  “Oh Mac, if I had only known that you felt this way.  I wanted to tell you I loved you while we were dancing a the prom, but I didn’t want you to think that I was just saying it.  Especially since we had only been together a few weeks.  If I had only knew.”  He picks up the diary again and flips a few more pages.

Dear Diary: Things are going great with Billy, and me, but Raul and Tina broke up.  I guess that I shouldn’t sound so down.  Tina’s family decided to move away so they broke it off before it got too complicated.  I guess he will be just fine cause I heard someone say that this girl named Sasha has it bad for him.  Maybe they will end up getting together.  Who knows.  Anyway Billy and I are going to the movies tomorrow.  I am not sure what we are going to see yet, I told him that he could pick out the movie, but I get to pick out the next one.  He said that was fine cause we don’t go to the movies very often anyway.  He thinks that by the time we go to another movie that I will forget who’s turn it is to pick out a movie and he will get to pick it out again.  Well he is wrong I will never forget.  The next movie I want to see is Eyes Wide Shut.  Man I can’t wait until it comes out.  Well I have to get ready for bed.  Goodnight.

Chapter 5

Billy smiles thinking about that night at the movies.  They ended up going to the drive in that was out of town with Raul and Sasha.  He thinks that the four of them talked more than watching the movie cause it wasn’t the best.  He thinks to himself, in fact I don’t even remember the name of it now.  All I know is that I was just happy to be there with the girl that I loved.  He flips a couple more pages and begins reading it again.

Dear Diary: Well I guess what I was thinking someone heard cause Raul and Sasha got together this past weekend.  We had a great time this past weekend all hanging out though.  I am glad that the guys planned a picnic for us.  Raul and Sasha were on a date when we left and by the time we came home they were an official couple.  I am so happy that he has found someone knew.  I know that him and Tina just broke up, but it was for a good cause.  Anyway he seems a lot happier with Sasha than he ever was with Tina.  Maybe this is the way that it was meant to be.  Goodnight.

Dear Diary: We have been together for two months now.  I still haven’t had the nerve to tell him those three little words.  I had to work today at the coffeehouse tonight so we decided that we would celebrate our anniversary tomorrow night.  Maybe I will tell him then.  He said that he was going to take me for a picnic.  That is it, I will tell him tomorrow.  Goodnight.

Dear Diary: Oh my you would not believe the day I had today.  Billy came and picked me up and took me to ‘our little place’ (a.k.a. the playhouse).  It was so romantic.  He had a picnic all set out when I got there with candles all around the room.  It was so sweet.  After we finished the meal he said that he had a surprise for me.  He said that we could not celebrate without a cake.  He asked me if I would go get it off the counter.  I agreed and walked over to get it and I almost fell in my tracks.  There on the cake in frosting I saw the words, “I love you, Mac” I felt as though I couldn’t breath.  I mean those were the words that I wanted to say to him so very badly and here not only was he telling them to me, but also he had them written in frosting on a cake.  I was in shock.  When he saw that I have seen what was written on the cake he slowly came over to where I was standing and whispered the words softly in my ear.  He leaned over towards me and said, “I love you Mac.”  I thought that I had died and gone to heaven.  I have wanted to tell him for so long and I just couldn’t find the right time.  How long had he felt like this?  When did he think of this?  Oh how I loved that moment.  I couldn’t wait for it to get here and when it did I didn’t want it to ever end. 

Billy lifted his head and smiled.  He remembered every word that he had just read.  He had wanted to tell her for weeks.  He finally realized that he didn’t know if he would be able to get the words out.  He then thought that the easiest way to do it would be to have the cake tell her how he felt instead of the usual Happy anniversary that everyone always gets on those kinds of cakes.  He knew from the way that she was looking at the cakes that he had done the right thing. 

Chapter 6

He smiled as the picture from that night rolled back into his mind.  He walked over to her and whispered those words into her ear.  She turned around to look at him with tears in her eyes and said, “I love you too Billy.  I have wanted to tell you that for so long, I just never knew when the right time was.  I didn’t want to say it to early and take the chance of loosing you.”  Billy smiled thinking about this.  He knew in his heart that she could have said it at any time cause he had been thinking it last winter when she was still dating his best friend Raul, but didn’t want to come between the two of them.  He lays the diary down and turns off the light to go to sleep. 

He awoke the next morning to the sound of a knock on the door.  “Come in.”  “Hey there little brother.”  “Hi Ash.”  “Sorry that I didn’t get to see you last night.  Dad and I came home and I peeked my head in the door and you were already asleep, we didn’t want to wake you.”  “That is okay,” replied Billy.  “Here you go Mami sent up a tray for you for breakfast, where would you like it?  On the table next to you or on your lap?”  Billy said, “On the table is fine, thanks.” “I am going to head to the office, Jack and dad already left.  Call us if you need anything.”  “Okay sis, thanks.” Ashley set the try on the table and left Billy alone to eat.  Billy eats his breakfast and then picks up the diary off the floor, flips a few more pages and begins to read again.

Dear Diary: Things are going great for me right now.  I love Billy so much.  I want so bad to be with him for the rest of my life, but we have only been together a couple of months.  She knew right from the beginning that she wanted to be with him.  Now that she was, she wanted it to last a lifetime.  (She wondered how many people ever got to feel the way she did right now.)  Well diary, I guess it is time that I go to bed, it is getting late.  Goodnight.

Dear Diary: I spent the entire day over at the Abbots house, along with my dad, Kay, and all of Billy’s family.  I can’t believe that Jill and I actually get along to a certain extent.  Everyone at school said that all his old girlfriends never liked her, I wonder why that is.  I am just glad that I get along with her.  I would never want ANYONE to ever come between me and the man that I love.  Goodnight.

Dear Diary: What am I going to do?  I had the most horrible dream last night.  I thought that my past was all behind me.  It was scary, almost like my body was sensing that it happened again tonight.  I don’t want to remember all of this, not now.  Not when things are going so great between Billy and me.  I thought that going to the therapist helped me deal with the fact that my step dad was beating my mother and that I had to watch it.  He also raped me and threatened to do it again if I ever told anyone.  I went to the therapist, but I never EVER told her who did this to me, just that it had happened.  I want it to go away, God please make it go away.  Goodnight. 

Chapter 7

Billy gasped as he read these words.  He had no idea that her step dad had done this to her.  He started to wonder if she remembered that she had written this in here.  Would she have ever told him about this if he hadn’t seen this in here?  Even though his heart had filled up with anger for this person, he kept reading.

Dear Diary: What am I going to do?  I had the dream again last night.  Only this time I saw as my mother killed my step dad.  I saw her stab him with a knife.  Was I dreaming?  Could this be god’s way of showing me that he is never going to hurt me again, or was this really just a dream?  I guess that I will never know.  Goodnight.

Dear Diary: Well I guess I was wrong about never finding out if I was just making things up in my head.  I read in the newspaper today that my step dad was killed last week.  There was this big article in the paper about this guy who was killed and left for dead in the woods.  They had him labeled as a John Doe, but I knew who it was.  I would recognize his face anywhere.  Well thank god for that.  Now he can never hurt my mother, or me, ever again.  I guess I don’t have to worry about telling anyone that story.  Goodnight.

Billy looked up from the diary with tears in his eyes.  He was so mad at what her step dad had done and yet was so happy that he could no longer hurt her.  He pushed the diary aside and decided that he was going to watch some TV for a while.  He knew that he had all the time in the world to read the rest of her diary, at least he hoped he had all the time in the world.

Billy watched TV for a couple of hours, but the whole time he was watching he couldn’t get Mac or her Diary out of his head.  “What am I going to do with you Abbot,” he softly says to himself.  With that thought he picked up the diary flipped a few pages again and started to read.

August 22, 2000

Dear Diary: I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!  We just started school again and I don’t know how it happened, but Billy and I ended up having all our classes but one together.  Now I get to see him all day long and don’t have to worry about where he is.  The only class that I don’t have him in is gym and that class should go by fairly quick.  I think that I am on cloud nine.  I wonder how he feels about getting to see me all day long?  Well enough for now.  Goodnight.

Billy abruptly puts the diary down when the phone rings.  “Hello.”  “Hey Billy, how are things going?”  “Hey dad, just fine.”  “So what have you been doing today son?”  “Well Ash brought me breakfast that Mami had fixed and then I read some more of Mac’s diary.  Then I watched a couple hours of TV, read a little more and now you called.  I think that after I get done talking with you I am going to take a little nap.” 

Chapter 8

“Ok, well I will be getting off work around 7 or so and I think that I am going to swing by Gina’s and bring you something nice for dinner.  How does that sound?”  “Great dad thanks, bye.”  “Bye Billy.”  Billy hangs up the phone and lays his head on the pillow and quickly dozes off thinking about Mac and what he had just read. 

Billy hears a knock at the door and wakes up.  “Come in.”  Raul walks through the door.  “Hey man, what you been doing?”  Billy looks at him a little quizzical.  “I have been sitting here in bed reading Mac’s diary.  What are you doing here?  I mean how can you be here, I thought you…” Billy awakens to the sound of the phone ringing.  I guess that I must have been dreaming.  By the time that he realizes what it is, they have already hung up.  He hangs up the phone wondering who that could have been.  He finally dismisses the thought.  He picks the diary off the flow again flipping through the pages when something catches his eye.  He begins to read.

Dear Diary: I can’t wait until tomorrow.  Billy is taking me to see Eyes Wide Shut.  I think that Raul and Sasha are coming to.  It would be so fun for the four of us to go hang out together at the drive in.  Billy thought that I wouldn’t remember that it was my turn to pick the movie.  Well I guess that I proved him wrong.  Well tomorrow is going to be a busy night so I better get ready for bed.  Goodnight.

Billy puts down the diary thinking about what he just wrote.  That is what had started this whole mess that trip to the movies.  They had such a good time that they had decided they were going to get something to eat before they headed for home.  He now wishes that they had never picked THAT night to go to the movies.  If only they hadn’t gotten something to eat, then maybe that horrible accident would have never happened.  What could who do now though?  It was too late to go back and change the terrible events that had taken place that night.  He just wished to god that he didn’t have to spend the rest of his life with this whole in heart.  

Chapter9

FLASH BACK TO BEGINNING

FLASH TO OTHER CAR

Brittany, Rianna, and JT are on their way home from a Saturday night party.  All three teens have been drinking.  Someone at the party said that they would drive them home, but JT said that he wasn’t as drunk as everyone thought he was.  He said that he would be okay to drive.  So the three of them got in JT’s car and hit the road.  The are coming down the straight road when they see another car coming towards them.  “Watch this girls.”  JT jerks the wheel into the other lane so that his car and the other are coming towards each other in the same lane.  “Be careful,” yells Rianna.  “JT stop being such a jerk and get back in your own lane,” stutters Brittany.  They get closer and closer and closer.  “JT,” yell Brittany and Rianna at the same time.  Just then he jerks back into his own laughing.  What he doesn’t notice is that at this very same moment the other car swerves into the other lane to avoid hitting them.

FLASH BACK TO BILLY’S CAR

“It looks like they are coming right at us!” Yelled Raul.  “I know” Billy shouted back, “Hang on there is only one thing I can do.”  Billy jerked the wheel to the left just as the other car did.  “OH GOD!!!!” screamed Billy.  At the same time that Raul yelled, “We are going to hit them.”  The only sound in the night was the sound of these two cars hitting head on in the middle of a deserted road.  ‘CRASH’

Chapter 10

TWENTY FOUR HOURS LATER

Kay, Brock, Jill, John, and Jack all come running through the hospital doors.  “Nurse, nurse, please tell me where my granddaughter is please,” yells Kay.  “Are you the family of those teens that came in tonight from the crash?” asks the nurse.  “Yes” they all reply together.  “Which teens where yours?” asks the nurse.  John says, “What do you mean which teens, what exactly happened?”  Just then a police officer walked up to them.  “Are you Mr. Abbot?”  “Yes”  “Well a lady was on here way home from work about midnight and came across two cars that had been in an accident.  They were both in the same lane.  At first we though it was your sons fault as his car was in the wrong lane.”  “WHAT,” yelled Kay and John in unison.  “Hang on please.  After we got all the teens to the hospital it turns out that the driver of the other car had been drinking.”  Jill says, “And just who was these other teens involved?”  The cop replies, “They were JT, Rianna, and Brittany.”  Everyone just looked stunned.  “Can I see my daughter now?” asks Brock.  “Yes you can.”

They follow the nurse and the cop.  Billy and Mac were in the same room beds, by one another.  Billy was lying there with two broken legs.  Mac was lying next to him, she looked horrible.  “OH MAC, WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU?” yells Kay.  She is going to be all right; she has a broken collarbone, a broken arm, and a broken leg.  She is going to have to stay in the hospital for about six weeks.  Try not to wake her she needs her rest.”  “Well at least she is ok,” says Kay.  Then they turn to Billy.  “How is my son?” asks Jill.  “I’m fine mom.”  “Oh, Billy, we were so worried about you,” says Jack.  “Well not as worried as some people will be.”  “What does that mean little brother?”  “Well the doctor came in and told us a little while ago that Raul and Sasha, well….well, um, they aren’t as lucky as us.  I mean they…they didn’t make it.”  John and Jill both lean in to hug him.  “I am so sorry son,” says Jack.  “Me to,” says Jill.

“So what about the twit and her two friends?” says Jack.  The officer turns to him and says, “Well Rianna didn’t make it.  She didn’t have her seatbelt on and went flying through the windshield.  As for Brittany and JT, well since they are both under age and they had been drinking and driving.  Well they are in jail right now awaiting trial.  I have a feeling that they will be going to jail for a long time.  Especially when we not only try them for drinking and riving but also for the murder of these three teens.”  “Well I hope so,” says Jill.

FLASH TO LATE THAT NIGHT

Billy gets released from the hospital, but not before telling his beloved lady that he will miss her very much.  With him having two broken legs it is very hard for him to move.  They have to take him out in a wheel chair.  Which also means that he will be unable to see Mac for a very long six weeks cause she will be in the hospital and he will basically be bed ridden.  They say their sad I love you’s and then Billy’s family takes him home.  As soon as they are gone Mac says to her grandmother, “Will you do me a big favor?” 

Chapter 11

“Sure sweetie anything you want.”  “Will you run home and get my diary, wrap it up and mail it to Billy so that he won’t be so lonely without me? 

I know that a diary is personal, but I love him and I am going to miss him oh so much.”  Sure Mac, anything you ask.”  Kay and Brock both give her a kiss and leave her alone. 

SIX WEEKS LATER

Mac gets out of the hospital and Billy gets his casts off.  Raul and Sasha’s parents had agreed to wait to have the funerals until Mac and Billy could attend.  The funerals were as nice as they could be considering the circumstances, the parents decided to have one funeral for the both of them, as they knew most of the same people.  Raul’s mom asked in Billy would say a few words for her son.  He agreed.  Mac also agreed to say a few words for Sasha even thought they had only been close for a little over four months.  It turned out that Sasha’s best friend had died in a car accident about a year ago.  Mac thought, What a tragedy, well at least now they are together again and she has Raul too.  God please take care of them.”

Kay, Brock, John, and Jill decided that they were going to have a luncheon at the Colonnade room after the funeral.  Everyone that attended the funeral was invited to have a meal and give thanks to the lord, hoping that he would take good care of these young teens that had been taken away from their families.  At the end of the night Kay had a surprise for Billy and Mac, she had bought Mac a brand new car so that she and Billy could go out and do things without having someone to take them, since Billy’s car was destroyed in the crash.  They were excited; they felt that they had spent too much time apart after the accident. 

THE TRIAL

JT and Brittany went to trial for their actions.  The whole trial lasted about 2 days.  Getting to the trial was a different story.  By this time it was hard to get jurors that had not already heard of the case.  It turned out that after looking for impartial jurors for 2 months they had to turn the trial over to a one-person jury, the judge.  As soon as this decision had been made the trial started.  Two days later all the evidence had been heard.  The judge stated that he did not even need time to think this through, all the information that he needed had been placed in front of him during the trial.  The reason that he had already made up his mind was two-fold.  One reason was because three teens had been killed in this crash which he felt never should have happened.  The second reason is that the driver of the car had not only been drinking, but was a minor.  Not only was drinking underage a crime, but having driven the car under the influence was also a crime; therefore he found them guilty.  JT was given the death penalty for the murder of three teens, while Brittany got life in jail for being an accomplice and for being an underage drinker.

Chapter 12

THE FUTURE

Mac and Billy decide that after having been apart for six weeks that they never want to be apart again.  At the thought of never spending another day apart, Billy smiles.  He reaches into his pocket and feels the soft touch of something that his brother Jack had given him the day Mac got released from the hospital.  Jack had bought an engagement ring long ago for a special someone, but he took the ring back when he found out that she was not marrying him, but his arch rival instead.  Billy took Mac’s hand, bent down on one knee, took the ring out of his pocket, and proposed to her.  Mac’s face lit up and she screamed yes so loud that the entire world heard her.  They agreed to get married the very next day in a wedding that the whole town is invited to.  (Jill even agrees to accept his sons love for Mac)
