Jack was not always the good guy he is now. When Jack first came to town
he had Hodgkin's disease. Jack blackmailed his adoptive father and then got
his hands on half of the ownership of The Spectator.
Jack's turning point started when he met Jennifer. After overcoming some
obstacles (believe me, Jack is not a guy who easily gives up), Jack and Jen
married and had a daughter named Abby. Their happiness did not last long as
Jack felt so much guilt from believing that he was the cause of his
daughter’s aplastic anemia. Jack made a difficult decision. (I think this
was the worst one he ever had to make.) He left Jen and Abby.
Later Jack returned to find Jen in the arms of another man. Jack went to
a place called "The Meadows" to try to change his ways and become the man
Jennifer would respect and love again. However, he made the mistake of
sleeping with Jen's mom, though they did not know each other’s true
identity.
We all know Jack: he won't give up until he gets what he wants, and he
would do anything for his true love. He devoted himself to proving that
Peter was not the man he said he was, and Jennifer left Peter after Jack
exposed him. After everything the couple had been through, they decided to
go to Africa with Abby. There, Jennifer didn't exactly find the devoted
husband and father she was hoping for as Jack became obsessed with the idea
of making his money back and began to get himself involved in get-rich-quick
schemes, which often caused him to disappear for weeks. Eventually, deciding
nothing had changed, Jennifer packed up her stuff and secretly left with
Abby, first for Ireland and then back to Salem.
Jack found Jennifer in Paris on Princess Greta's coronation and persuaded
her to return to Salem with him. When he made friends with Greta, he saw
that Jennifer was a bit jealous of his friendship with Greta. When Jack
realized that Greta’s feelings were more than just friendship, he lied and
said he was gay. By now, we all know that Jack would go to any lengths to
get Jennifer back, and he applied for a job to impress her. However, to get
the job, he had to go to Las Vegas for the interview. Jack was truly hurt
when, on Jennifer's birthday, he proposed to her and she declined. Greta
posed as Jack's girlfriend in Las Vegas. Things did not work out for Jack
because in the end Jennifer got the job he wanted. Jennifer kicked Jack out
of the house.
Jack started a relationship with Billie Reed, which made Jennifer
jealous. This relationship did not last long. Jack was the only one who
stood beside Billie when it came to light that she was involved in Hope's
kidnapping. Jack felt betrayed when he found out that he was not included in
the plot to save Hope. Jack moved into the DiMera house to get some dirt on
Colin, a mysterious Irishman dating Jennifer, but Tony kicked him out of the
house. When Colin, who was Shawn Brady's nephew, was murdered, Jack and
Jennifer suspected each other. He turned himself in to protect her and
finally proposed to her on Valentine's Day, 2003.
Finally, Jack and Jennifer found their way back together and re-married
in May 2003, but in soaps we get to learn that happiness does not last long,
and Jack became the Salem Stalker's second victim in October, when Jennifer
was pregnant with his second child.
