Austin Reed
Played by Austin Peck
Austin Peck made his network television debut on "Days of Our Lives" on
April 13, 1995, as the romantic and daring boxer-turned-executive Austin
Reed.
Peck was born in Hawaii on April 9, 1971. He moved to San Francisco with
his family when he was 4 years old. The Pecks later moved to Los Angeles
when Austin was 8. At the urging of friends and a Los Angeles commercial
agent, Peck began modeling and pursuing television and film roles at the age
of 16. Two years and several photo shoots later, he found himself modeling
in Paris, Milan, Morocco, the Virgin Islands and Rome. He subsequently
appeared in fashion layouts for numerous publications, such as Esquire, GQ,
Vogue Hommes and British Vogue.
Returning to Los Angeles at 19, he began training theatrically with
Milton Stevens at the Stella Adler Conservatory. He later moved to New York
City where he studied with Sherry Landrum and Terry Somner at the New Actors
Workshop and with Richard Southern at the Three of Us Studios. He relocated
back in Los Angeles upon joining the cast of "Days of Our Lives."
Away from the studios, he stays active by boxing and rollerblading. An
accomplished cartoonist, Peck also enjoys sketching caricatures of family
members, friends and co-stars. He has an eclectic taste in music, enjoying
the sounds of Massive Attack to Rage Against the Machine.
Austin Reed was a real hero on the show, although sometimes the writing
made him seem really stupid. At first, Austin seemed to have many secrets.
He and his sister Billie were from the streets. He had a temper but he used
it in his boxing career. Their secret was that their parents were evil
Curtis Reed, who beat them and forced Billie into prostitution, and Kate
Roberts, who had escaped life with Curtis when he abducted their children
after discovering her infidelity with Bill Horton. Curtis staged a car
accident to make Kate believe that her children were dead. They blamed Kate
at first for leaving them with Curtis until they learned the truth after
their father was murdered by Stefano DiMera. Kate became very close to
Billie and especially to Austin. Austin never really got along with his
half-brother Lucas.
Austin and Carrie Brady fell in love. Many forces conspired to keep them
apart, and her sister Sami was the one who tried most to keep them apart.
Also, Carrie fell for doctor Mike Horton while Sami was distracting Austin
and this is what finally broke them up.
Austin and Sami were a couple for a while and twice he almost married
her. The second time, though, was enough to make him leave town: he found
out that she had lied to him yet again. He also had short relationships with
Greta and Nicole but neither went anywhere. While on the show, Austin went
from boxer to talk show host to magazine executive without any real skills,
education, or training.
