DVD Reviews
This is not really my kind of show, which I said in my
original review, but
it's very well written. It's by the same people who did "The
Good Wife," an excellent show. However, this is much more of
a farce, as well as scifi. I normally do love scifi, but I
don't like gross stuff in my scifi, and this show has a lot
of gross stuff.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead (who stars
in "Fargo" next year) shines as the brother of a senator who
discovers a shocking conspiracy in DC. Danny Pino
("Cold Case") ably plays her brother, Senator Luke Healy.
Tony Shalhoub ("Monk") is wonderful as always as the corrupt
opposition senator.
If you can get past the
silliness, it has a lot of great political commentary, as
well as some wonderful characters. The actors do a fabulous
job, even though most of their characters' brains have been
eaten by alien bugs.
I don't think I'm alone in my
assessment of the show because it did very poorly in the
ratings and won't be back for season 2. Summer shows
generally don't get high ratings, anyway. However, I think
that the real-life election overshadowed the show and made
people so sick of politics that they probably didn't want to
watch the show. I think most of us would have rather that
the president-elect had his brain eaten by aliens...at least
that would make more sense than the scary reality.
I'm glad to have the whole season on DVD, though, so I can
find out what was really going on with this show. I didn't
have time to watch it during the summer. There are many
great features on the DVD to watch, too. Check it out and
see for yourself!MORE INFORMATION:
