Grant and Whishaw

Review of "A Very English Scandal" 7/1/18 by Suzanne
airs on Amazon

I've always loved Hugh Grant because he's so handsome and charming as well as being a fairly good actor. He's older now, and here he's playing a Parliament MP, Jeremy Thorpe, in the 1970's, who picks up young guys (based on a true story). At that time, that kind of scandal would have killed his career. Being gay was not cool then, to put it mildly.

This miniseries is fun to watch, and all of the actors are outstanding. Ben Whishaw, whom you may recognize from other BBC productions, is particularly fabulous as the sexy young guy, Norman, that Jeremy regrets getting involved with. Jonathan Hyde is also very good as Sharpe's good friend and confidant. Of course, things go terribly wrong when Sharpe decides to get rid of Norman.

The show was written by Russell T Davies, who also did a fabulous job with the UK version of "Queer As Folk," and some of the best episodes of "Doctor Who" and "Torchwood" since 2005. Check it out because it's worth watching.

MORE INFORMATION:

The shocking true story of the first British politician to stand trial for conspiracy to murder. Jeremy Thorpe (Hugh Grant), the leader of the Liberal party, has a secret he's desperate to hide. His ex-lover Norman Scott (Ben Whishaw) is putting Thorpe's brilliant political career at risk so Thorpe schemes and deceives until he realizes there's only one way to silence Scott for good.

Starring:
Hugh Grant, Ben Whishaw, Alex Jennings
