TV Show Reviews
Review of "For
the People" 3/17/18 by
Eva Diaz
airs Tuesdays 10/9c on ABC.
I was excited to see this show because I love shows about
the law. I'm always looking for a new show about
lawyers, and this show is the newest in the long list of
shows by Shonda Rhimes, who, as most of you know, brought to
televison the shows "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal" and "How to
Get Away With Murder." This show focuses on a group of young
lawyers who work for the southern district of the Federal
Court of New York (also known as the mother court since a
lot of high profile cases have been tried there). The rookie
group of lawyers for both the prosecution and defense are
insecure, since it hasn't been too long since they got out
of law school. I am looking forward to seeing how they grow
in their law careers and in their personal lives, since a
few of the lawyers are dating, even though they're on
opposite sides of a case, which causes problems in their
personal lives.
This show has a large cast, which I
think can sometimes lead to problems because there are so
many characters that viewers can get confused as to which
character is doing what in the show. I hope that as the show
goes on, this problem will be solved. This show has a slower
pace then the other Shondaland shows, but I think the slower
pace is good because it gives the viewer more time to get
involved in the cases presented, as well as giving us a
behind-the-scenes look at how the federal courts work. I
will keep watching and give this show a chance to grow on
me. I give this show 4 out of 5 stars
MORE INFORMATION:
Set in the United States District Court for the
Southern District of New York (a.k.a. "The Mother
Court"), the new Shondaland series show follows six
talented young lawyers working on opposite sides of
the law and handling the most high-profile and
high-stakes federal cases in the country. These
young lawyers will be put to the test both
personally and professionally as their lives
intersect in and out of America's most prestigious
trial court.
Best friends Sandra Bell (Britt Robertson) and
Allison Adams (Jasmin Savoy Brown) serve as public
defenders alongside Jay Simmons (Wesam Keesh) and
their boss, Federal Public Defender Jill Carlan
(Hope Davis). They face off against prosecutors Seth
Oliver (Ben Rappaport), Leonard Knox (Regé-Jean
Page), Kate Littlejohn (Susannah Flood) and their
supervisor, chief of the Criminal Division in the
U.S. Attorney's Office, Roger Gunn (Ben Shenkman).
Our lawyers are joined by Judge Nicholas Byrne
(Vondie Curtis-Hall), who rules on some of the
court's most controversial cases, and Tina Krissman
(Anna Deavere Smith), the formidable clerk of Court
who keeps everyone in line.
