DVD Reviews
Ever since I read about this movie coming out, I wanted
to see it! I wasn't able to see it in the theaters, so I was
very glad to finally get the DVD. I love
Sherlock Holmes, and Ian McKellen is always great in
every movie I've ever seen him in. Also, I love his show
"Vicious" on PBS! I just knew I would love this movie.
Fortunately, I was not disappointed. It's a really good
movie. I might even say "perfect," if such a thing exists.
McKellen plays Sherlock Holmes when he's very old and has
dementia. He's living in the country with just a
widowed housekeeper and her son, Roger. The
housekeeper is not too fond of Holmes, particularly when he
starts becoming a burden and more than she wants to put up
with. (She's just the housekeeper, but she's become more of
a caregiver to him) Roger and Holmes start up a great
friendship. That relationship is one of the best things
about the movie. Holmes instructs Roger in taking care of
his bees and in other things about, well, detective skills.
Roger has a lot of interest in Holmes and helps him to
unlock the secrets of his past.
Holmes wants to remember his last case, but his memory is
giving him problems. There are lots of little
mysteries and revelations along the way as Holmes tries to
dig up details. Many interesting and surprising things
happen. I can't spoil it for you, but you will enjoy it!
