I saw the comercials for Teachers and thought I would
watch it, although it didn't seem like it would be something
I would like. Sadly, I was right; I don't like it at all.
The show is based on a web series done by the Chicago comedy
troop "The Katydids," with its members making up the main
cast. Let me be clear and underline this fact this is a
very adult comedy. Please do not watch it with your
children. This comedy is strictly for an audience that
likes the type of comedy found in the movie "American Pie."
Executive-produced by Alison Bee, it is also a very dark
comedy. In the pilot episode, the teachers are told
by the school principal that they must organize an
anti-bullying campaign, and they end up turning the students
into bullies.
The cast of kids is large and very good. The kids were
funny, even though, at times, they used language that should
not be used by children in elementary school . I am no
prude, but I think TVLAND has gone too far in its efforts to
be more edgy and to attract younger viewers. I give this
show a 2 out of 5 stars only because, as I said, the
children in the cast were very good. I think TVLAND is
taking a big risk with this show, and I wonder if it will
pay off for them? Probably not.
MORE INFORMATION:
“Teachers” revolves around six
elementary school teachers who
are trying to mold the minds and lives of America’s
youth, even though they don’t really seem to have their
own lives together at all. From refusing to read
fairytales because “sometimes Prince Charming wants to
date other people” to hitting on the resident “hot dad,”
these teachers are certainly
changing the world, one student at a time. The series
stars improv group The Katydids - Caitlin Barlow,
Katy Colloton, Cate Freedman, Kate Lambert, Katie
O’Brien and Katie Thomas – who also wrote and
starred in the web hit that the TV
series is based on. In addition to writing for and
starring in “Teachers,” they
will also serve as executive producers alongside Alison
Brie (“Community”) and showrunners Ian Roberts and Jay
Martel (“Key and Peele”).
Matt Miller and Cap Gun TV also
serve as executive producers of “Teachers.”

‘Teachers’
is hilariously bizarre, pushing the envelope and
bringing the network into new comedic territory.”
“Teachers”
revolves around a group of elementary school
teachers who are trying
to mold the minds of America’s youth, but don’t
have their own lives together at all. From Ms.
Bennigan awkwardly flirting with the school’s
resident “hot dad,” to Ms. Snap hooking up with
the school janitor, and Ms. Watson making her
class Facebook-stalk an ex-boyfriend, they’re
changing the world – perhaps not for the better
– one student at a time. “Teachers”
is written by and stars The Katydids, who wrote
and acted in the popular web series of the same
name and are each named a version of “Katie” –
Caitlin Barlow, Katy Colloton, Cate Freedman,
Kate Lambert, Katie O’Brien and Kathryn
Renée Thomas. Along with The Katydids,
AlisonBrie (“Community”) and
showrunners Ian Roberts and Jay Martel
(“Key and Peele”) executive produce the series.
Matt Miller and Cap Gun
TV are also executive producers.
Brie will make a
guest appearance in the pilot episode of “Teachers”
as Lauren Lark, a district administrator
facilitating an anti-bullying workshop at the
school, who ironically has a less-than-friendly
past with one of the teachers,
Deb Adler (Thomas). Other guest stars making
appearances this season include Rob Riggle
(“21 Jump Street”), Lacey Chabert (“Mean
Girls”), Jesse Bradford (“Bring It On”),
Tim Bagley (“Knocked Up”), Sam
Richardson (“Veep”), Trevor Larcom
(“Fresh Off The Boat”) and more.
