Michael and Rey met at Society. they chatted about Rey’s trip to Miami, and he said that it was just what he and Sharon needed. Michael called Rey here to talk about Chelsea’s convalescent leave. Michael always had his doubts about this case, and knowing Chelsea’s history, he did his research. Her mother’s condition was confirmed, and that was why he didn’t oppose the convalescent leave, even though Chelsea had a history of going on the run. Rey noted that Michael covered his bases by requiring a police escort.

At Crimson Lights, Chelsea told Victor that the decision was made – Adam was allowing her to take Connor to Minnesota to see his grandmother. Victor stated that he was looking out for his grandson. Sharon entered as Adam stated that this trip would be best for Connor and Chelsea. He thought Connor needed to know he could still rely on Chelsea. “Son, this isn’t good enough and you damn well know it,” Victor argued. Adam and Chelsea told Victor that this wasn’t his decision. Chelsea argued that Connor was her son, and Victor didn’t get to dictate what he did. Victor bellowed that he’d dictate to anyone anytime he wanted to, regarding his family. Adam felt Chelsea and Connor needed time together. Chelsea challenged Victor to admit he didn’t trust her with her son. Victor readily confirmed this. Rey walked in, and Chelsea asked him to explain to Victor that if the judge had no issue with her leaving, neither should Victor. Rey announced that he was going to be the police escort for Chelsea’s trip. Chelsea thought this should placate Victor. Rey said it was Michael’s idea. He added that they’d be driving, not flying, and they’d avoid places with large crowds for Chelsea to lose herself in. Victor didn’t think it was right to uproot Connor as he was settling in. Adam insisted that Connor would go with Chelsea. Victor conceded that this was Adam’s son and his decision. He asked if Adam really trusted Chelsea after all that happened, and he said yes.

Rey was on the phone with Michael, and only Sharon was in earshot. Michael told Rey to watch Chelsea, because she could be cunning. Rey was confident Chelsea wouldn’t pull anything – they had a long conversation, and she seemed genuinely remorseful. He thought she could be trusted. The call ended. Rey asked Sharon if she was okay with it. She asked if no one else was available. He didn’t want to go, but he was given the assignment, so he had to see it through. He promised he’d be back before she had the chance to miss him. She said she already missed him. She narrowed her eyes and looked at Chelsea, who was across the room doing something on her phone. Rey asked Sharon if she’d be okay. He knew she’d been worried about Mariah. Sharon wasn’t worried anymore, because Mariah texted her back and said she couldn’t contact anyone earlier because her phone was dead. Mariah was fine and just enjoying a little time away from everyone hovering over her. Rey asked Chelsea if she was ready. She joined him and Sharon and said she knew he was ordered to do this, but she wanted everyon to know how grateful she was. Rey thought getting some distance from Adam would be good. He turned and fixed his gaze on Sharon. “For everyone,” he added.

Faith and Moses entered the main house after horseback riding. Moses, who hadn’t ridden in years, had struggled, but he was good-natured about it, and Faith was encouraging. Nikki briefly popped in to offer to get them something to drink. Moses thanked Faith for listening to him talk about medicine. He felt like he could tell her things that he couldn’t tell anyone else. She said she felt the same way. He asked if she thought about what they were to each other. She tensed up and said they were besties. She changed the subject to the summer reading list and mentioned that the first chapter of the book they needed to read was long. He hadn’t started it yet, so he said he should go get to work on it. He awkwardly left. Just after this, Nikki came in with the drinks and asked what happened.

Faith explained that Moses wanted to talk about taking their friendship to a deeper level. She felt the same way he did, but she’d been too nervous to say so, and she messed it all up. Nikki assured Faith that it was normal to get scared. Nikki thought that Faith was just afraid that she’d ruin the good thing that she had with Moses. Faith said it was like whenever she was riding her horse and about to go for a jump, there was a split second between knowing she was safe and not feeling safe. Nikki said Faith made the leap several times before, and it wasn’t terrifying, it was exhilarating and fun. Faith thought this was different, but Nikki said it really wasn’t. Nikki explained that when your heart beat faster and you felt a bit breathless, it could mean you were afraid, but it could also mean you were anticipating something wonderful to happen. Nikki advised Faith not to ever hide from her feelings, because that would only end in not getting what you wanted.

Victor went home, and Faith wasn’t there. He told Nikki that he didn’t understand why Adam was willing to take such a risk with his own son. This could backfire. Nikki thought that it sounded like all the precautions had been taken. She felt it was good that Rey was going on the trip. Victor worried that they’d never see Connor again. Nikki didn’t think it was beneficial to be hyperbolic. He asked if she’d forgotten Chelsea’s history. Nikki was well aware, but she still felt the same way. She said Adam had driven many people to extremes, but Connor didn’t understand any of that – he just loved and missed his mother. Adam walked in and thanked Nikki for taking his side, even if the insulted him in the process. She hoped he didn’t expect an apology, as she stood by what she said. She stated that she was defending Connor. He appreciated the honesty. She left the room. Adam thought this was settled, so he was surprised to show up and find out Victor was still opposed. Victor said Adam should make decisions on his own son, but Victor would also always look out for his family. Adam knew they’d been treading carefully in their partnership, learning not to step on each other’s toes, but this wasn’t business, it was personal, and he wouldn’t let the lines get crossed. Victor said this was Adam’s decision. He just hoped Adam wouldn’t regret it. Adam was right there with him. Rey and Chelsea arrived at the main house to pick Connor up. Adam said Nikki was helping Connor pack, and he was very excited. Victor told Rey to keep him informed about the trip. Chelsea told Victor not to worry – she wouldn’t jeopardize her chance at legitimate freedom. She thanked Adam and said she’d never be able to express what this meant to her. He hoped this trip would be what she wanted it to be. Everyone except Victor left the room. He placed a call to someone. “They’re leaving as we speak. I do not what you to let them out of your sight, is that clear? Not even a minute,” he said.

At Society, Elena told Nate that while she was with a patient, she forgot the name of the medication she was going to prescribe. She was surprised that the patient didn’t lose confidence in her and request another doctor. He was sure the woman knew it was a momentary lapse, and the patient surely felt lucky to be treated by someone so gifted. He admitted it had happened to him a million times, and he said not to worry about it. It made her feel better to hear that this happened to someone as flawless as him. She had a special surprise for dessert, and she went into the back to get it. Imani showed up, and she complimented the way Nate’s tie brought out his sparkling eyes. He thanked her and asked if she was meeting someone for dinner. She was grabbing takeout for herself and Amanda. They were working the case tonight. She asked if they could have a drink or dessert while she waited for her order. Just then, Elena returned with dessert. Imani hoped Elena brought enough for three. “Nope, just two,” Elena said as she held up two forks.

Elena reconsidered and invited Imani to join them. She was sure it must be difficult in a new town with no friends and lonely nights. Imani said she was making new friends every day, and she thanked Elena for the offer, but her order was ready. She mentioned again that the tie was Nate’s color. Imani got her food and left. Nate salivated over the dessert and asked how Elena knew it was his favorite. She said she knew what he liked. He got a text. It wasn’t from work, and it was good news, but he didn’t want to share it until all the pieces were in place. She invited him to her place tonight.

Moses went to Society and told Nate and Elena what just happened. Nate said Faith had a tough year, and maybe she wasn’t ready. Elena thought Moses should let Faith know he was still interested. He asked what to do if Faith still wasn’t receptive. Elena didn’t think that was what was going on here, but she said that if Faith said she wasn’t interested, Moses would have to accept that. Elena thought taking the next step was scary, but if you didn’t try, it would never happen. He thanked her and apologized for dropping all that drama on them. He had some thinking to do, so he left. Nate asked if Elena was talking about the two of them or Moses and Faith. “Both,” she replied.

Devon and Amanda were in the hotel lounge. Devon finished reading Naya’s confession and declared that Traci Abbott’s novels were more believable. Amanda said the very idea that Naya hired someone to tamper with Richard’s brakes was ludicrous. She was convinced Sutton had Richard killed, but to coach his daughter into taking the fall was too horrible to contemplate. He thought she’d proven that Sutton was dangerous, so he wondered why it was too much for her to think that Sutton had dictated every word Naya said. He asked if there was part of her that wanted to keep hope that her grandfather wasn’t completely evil. She wasn’t sure how to answer that. It was all uncharted territory for her. He assured her she could lean on him. Imani showed up and told Devon she ran into his cousin. She could picture Nate at the top of a list of the most eligible bachelors in Genoa City. Devon noted that Nate was taken. “Mm, Elena,” Imani frowned. Devon told Amanda to call if she needed him, and he left.

Imani and Amanda were about to go over Naya’s case when Sutton walked in. He was relieved Amanda decided to take on Naya’s defense, and he wanted to talk to Amanda and Imani in private. They went up to Amanda’s suite. Sutton regretted how heated things got last time. He felt that some outlandish things were said, and he hoped they could get past that. He was sure they all wanted the same thing – Naya’s acquittal. “Whatever it takes,” Amanda said. He thought they should be allies instead of foes if they wanted to win this thing. He’d lived a lifetime of navigating difficult situations, and he wanted to put all his knowledge experience at Amanda’s disposal. He wanted to hear the approach she was going to take in court. Imani and Amanda exchanged a look, and Amanda said it was still a work in progress. Sutton turned to Imani for details, so Amanda stated that they weren’t comfortable discussing their defense strategy with him. She believed that was best for all involved, especially Naya. Sutton’s temper flared, and he said this was a mistake. He declared that if anyone could help them make this case, it was him – he was a powerful and well connected man. Amanda said she and Imani were confident that they could handle this. Imani looked uncomfortable, but she nodded along with Amanda. Sutton warned Amanda that she didn’t want to let him down. Amanda said that was good to know, and she hated to cut this short, but she and Imani had work to do, and their food was getting cold. Sutton was taken aback. He huffed as he went to the door, and cast a glare at Amanda before leaving.

Imani thought Sutton was on a calculated fishing expedition. It had been all she could do not to scream at him. Amanda said they’d keep him guessing. She wasn’t sure how long they could keep him from realizing they were going after him as part of Naya’s defense. Every day they kept him at bay the better the chance they had at making this work and making sure her father’s real killer paid. Imani said defying Sutton on anything, especially this, was hard, but Amanda was right – this was the only way to save their mother. Amanda understood this was harder for Imani because she had a relationship with Sutton. Imani said that if Sutton hadn’t acted so horribly, she wouldn’t have even considered betraying him. Amanda smiled and said they should get their brakes checked. Imani knew that was a joke, but she said there were other ways Sutton could do damage. She knew that was what he was hinting at earlier. “Well, he might be used to taking down all his enemies, but he’s never gone up against me,” Amanda replied.

Victoria and Ashland were in his suite. He was upset because he’d gone to the park expecting some alone time with his son and walked in on family time with Tara and Kyle. Victoria thought it sounded like a setup. The whole thing bugged Ashland so much he started having trouble breathing in front of his son. Kyle, of all people, had to distract Harrison. Ashland was humiliated. Victoria was sure it wasn’t as bad as he thought. Ashland got an alert on his phone and was stunned to realize someone had filmed the episode. He knew it was going to go public. He hated all this – the video, the damn cancer. He had to know who else had the video. After a call to his lawyer, he said that the video was being fed to media outlets in NY by an anonymous source. She assured him he didn’t have to go through this alone, and he thanked her. He said she was right to demand that he open up. All his life, he’d kept his feelings bottled up, even with Tara. He used to think it was his secret weapon. He was relieved he finally had someone he could let his guard down with. He wondered what his life would be like if he met Victoria sooner. He felt it was almost too late, and he asked her not to say it could be different. He was just grateful for the time they had. She said she’d always see him as the most compelling man she’d ever been around. She didn’t know how things would’ve turned out if they met sooner, but she said he didn't let anyone or anything define him. She felt he defined himself, and that’s why she was so drawn to him.

Victoria told Ashland that the video was out, and there was nothing they could do about it, so they had to focus on what they could control. He thought she was looking to distract him, and he brought up the merger. She suggested that the media might be so focused on the video that they could quietly finalize their deal. They talked about making this merger a huge success. He rubbed his hands together, stating that the two of them got off on the finer details, like making this business hum like a well-oiled machine. She noted that they both had offices internationally. They could travel the globe together, making their way through the best cities of the world. That was the best idea he’d heard in a long time. He suggested they go downstairs and toast. She had to check in with her nanny, but she told him to order for her, because he knew what she liked.

At ChancComm, Lily and Billy had the video of Ashland, which they’d received anonymously. Lily commented on what a jerk Ashland was being to Tara. Billy thought it was unfortunate that this person had leaked the video to all the outlets. They had to act fast if they were going to beat everyone to the punch. She didn’t think they could put this on their site until they had the full context. He didn’t think that mattered, since it was obviously a real video. She maintained that putting this on their site without more information would make them the kind of journalists they didn’t want to be. She said they weren’t the type of journalists to put gossip out there for gossip’s sake. He asserted that Ashland was a public figure and his health impacted people’s livelihoods. This video gave credence to the story they published saying that Ashland might be sick. She thought that sounded self-serving. He sensed that this wasn’t about journalism; he recalled that when she had cancer, she wanted privacy, but when the news made it to the courts, everyone found out. She said that was bad, but Ashland’s situation was worse. She couldn’t imagine how she would feel if a video of her came out for people to gawk at when she was at her worst. He admired her strength and bravery, and he didn’t take this lightly, but he thought they needed to question whether her experience should be part of this conversation.

Lily granted that Billy’s question was fair, but she said he was wrong – she only brought up her own cancer as context. She reiterated her position about their responsibility as media professionals. He didn’t want to get scooped by the competition, but he conceded that she was right – they needed to find out more information about this video. He didn’t think Ashland deserved privacy, but he did deserve ChancComm’s commitment to fair journalism. He said he’d put someone on this story. He got an alert that another outlet had released the video. She asked if he was sad they got beaten to the punch, and he said no. He thought she was right – they needed to question the context and the agenda of the person who sent them the video, and that was the story they should pursue. She said they had to figure out who hated Ashland enough to release it. He had a few ideas.

Ashland got to the hotel bar and saw Billy sitting there. Billy assumed Ashland had seen the video. It was viral. Ashland asked if Billy was there to grill him for a comment. Billy said ChancComm chose not to link to the video, and Ashland wondered if Billy was looking for praise for not being pond scum. Billy wanted to remind Ashland that there was a deal on the table for ChancComm to acquire Ashland’s company. Ashland hoped Billy knew that if he’d posted the video, there would be no deal. He also hoped that wasn’t why Billy held back from posting it. Billy said no – they didn’t post out of integrity. “I said I would contact you within 24 hours if I was interested. Obviously, I haven’t, so that should’ve been a clue to you that there’s no deal to be made,” Ashland stated. Billy chuckled. Victoria walked downstairs. Billy said that ChancComm had the resources to find out who posted the video. Victoria noted that ChancComm wasn’t the only company with resources – if she recalled correctly, Locke Communications’ resources far exceeded ChancComm. Billy decided to leave, and he said it was great to see them. “Accidentally on purpose, no doubt,” Ashland replied. Ashland had a tip for Billy for publication. He said he and Victoria were making an announcement in in the morning – something of a personal and business nature.

Billy went back to work and filled Lily in. He didn’t know what this announcement Ashland hinted at was about, but he hoped it wasn’t going to be a wedding invitation. He could tell Victoria didn’t expect Ashland to make that comment. He thought that Victoria had assumed she had more time before this news went public. Billy noted that he’d said from the beginning that Victoria was getting in way too deep with Ashland. It was all too intense and risky.

Back at the hotel, Ashland asked Victoria to forgive him for surprising her like that. He’d called his lawyer in the elevator, and he found out that the due diligence had been completed. He said she’d be hearing from her attorneys soon – they signed off on every part of the deal. She was surprised and pleased the merger was done. “We are one, Victoria. All that’s left now is to share it with the rest of the world,” he said. They toasted.
