At the main house, Adam told Victor he had a reporter investigating the rumors on Ashland’s health. He’d be back before Connor and Nikki came home. Victor said it was a joy to have Connor and Adam living on the ranch. He stated that Adam could focus on his attention on the company, and they’d make it bigger, better and stronger.

At the mental health facility, Chelsea told Chloe that Adam was trying to erase her from Connor’s life. She stated that she found out Dr. Hedges wasn’t on her side, and if she wanted to be released anytime soon, she’d have to force his hand. Chelsea was angry that Adam moved Connor to the ranch. She said it was typical Victor – first he got Adam into this company while she was immobilized due to her stroke and unable to object, and now he was trying to get his hooks into Connor. Chloe thought that might be a bit of a leap – maybe this was just about Connor spending time with his extended family. Chelsea thought Adam, Victor and Nikki would take every opportunity to subtly turn Connor against her. Chloe suggested Chelsea was blowing this out of proportion. Chelsea asked how she’d feel if these people were getting between her and her kids. Chloe sympathized, and she wanted Chelsea to get out, but she said Chelsea couldn’t just escape. Chelsea had a plan, and she needed Chloe’s help pulling it off.

Later, Dr. Hedges arrived at Chelsea’s request. Chloe wasn’t there. Chelsea said she never would’ve allowed Dr. Hedges to bring her here if she knew it meant permanent incarceration. He clarified that he’d never told her it’d be permanent; he’d said she had to put in the time to heal. She countered that he’d said more than that. She felt it was obvious he was Victor’s flunky. He disputed that. She said her son needed his mother. She asked what would happen if it got out that he’d been taking money from Victor to keep her in here. “It doesn’t matter how much I’ve taken from Victor. You can’t prove it, and no one’s gonna believe a mental patient over her doctor, so get used to it Chelsea. You’re here until I say you’re getting out,” he stated. She revealed that she’d recorded the conversation on the phone, and she was sending it to her friend who would send it to the medical board, if need be. He reached for the phone, but she pulled it back. She threatened to release the recording unless he had her discharged immediately. After he left, she texted Chloe, who was at Crimson Lights. Chloe had received the recording and saved it to the cloud.

Ashland was in bed after spending sleeping with Victoria, and she was walking around in a bed sheet. She asked if it was worth it, and he said she’d made a dying man feel like he could live forever, and that was a gift. She told him to prepare for the gift that kept on giving, and she dropped the sheet and joined him in bed. Later, she was in bed, and he was up. Earlier, the disease had him feeling lower than he’d ever felt, but now he felt energized and strong, thanks to her. Before, he’d wanted to hole up in the room, but now he wanted to get out and enjoy the fresh air with her. He assured her he was feeling up to it. That wasn’t her only concern. The ChancComm article came out today, and all eyes would be on him when they were out in public. She asked if he was up for that much scrutiny. He didn’t care about prying eyes. He wanted to go to Society for champagne.

Abby was surprised when Ben walked into Society. Since the party he flew in for was last night, she thought he’d be on his way home to see Max. He asked what kind of friend he’d be if he left without saying goodbye. It was great to see her, but he understood if she didn’t feel that way – if his presence reminded her of what they lost. She said it was a long time ago. She wished him safe travels. Adam walked in and was happy to see Stitch. Stitch said hello and that he had to get going. He left. Abby acknowledged that Adam saved Stitch from the fire at Newman tower years ago. She felt like there were two Adams, the one everyone justifiably loved to hate and the one who saved Ben and Faith. He said he got off on keeping people like her guessing, and she commented that it was clear which Adam he was today. He decided to start over. He recognized that he hurt a lot of people, including her, and he was trying to make up for all that.

Adam was talking with a reporter or a PI about Ashland when Ashland and Victoria walked into Society. Ashland took a seat, and Abby, who’d read the article, asked her sister what was going on with her and Ashland. Victoria said they were just friends. Abby asked about Ashland’s health, and Victoria said not to believe everything she read. Abby thought that Ashland looked like the picture of health. She wanted Victoria to be happy and in love. “Oh, please, let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” Victoria replied. She went to join Ashland and found him chatting with Adam. Ashland suddenly had some trouble breathing. His phone rang, and he seized the opportunity to leave the area. “He seems fine to me,” Adam sarcastically said. Victoria was surprised Adam was giving the competition’s article that much credence. Adam said he was commenting on what he saw with his own eyes. Victoria said healthy people got short of breath all the time. Adam thought he should be able to show concern about a board member’s health. Victoria needed time to adjust to Adam showing concern for someone besides himself. He told her to get used to the new him. She asked how long until he reverted back to his old self. He said he was changing, he liked the new life he was building and others were giving him a chance, like Victor. She accused him of sucking up to their dad, and he said she acted like she didn’t need Victor anymore because she’d hitched her wagon to a new billionaire. She told him bait wouldn’t work. He said he wasn’t baiting her – he could tell she and Ashland were going close, and he asked if she’d prepared herself for the heartache of losing him. She didn’t think he was actually asking or that he cared about the answer.

Victoria stated that Adam had a talent for keeping people guessing, but not her, because she’d been burned by him too many times to ever let her guard down. He noted that her guard wasn’t up around Locke, who had an equally checkered past. She replied that rumors were always swirling around Locke, the ones about his health were the latest. She bet Ashland would outlast everyone. At first, Adam thought Victoria was trying to use Locke and his board seat to influence Newman Media, but now Adam saw there was something deeper going on. Adam was happy for Victoria. She didn’t think either of them ever would truly be happy for each other. He suggested it’d be easier to have a fresh start, but she told him that loathing him took no effort at all. He asked if he’d always be her enemy, and she said yes. Ashland returned, and Adam suggested Victoria and Ashland take a weekend getaway to L.A.

Adam left the area. Victor told Ashland that Adam was always up to something. He said Adam sounded like one of those sharks she’d warned him about, circling because he sensed blood in the water. She said that they had to be careful until the deal was done. Abby walked over to check on them. They were fine. Victoria heard from a friend of hers at the hospital that Stitch was in town. Abby said she saw him, and she was glad to, but he was back in Iowa now. Abby left, and Victoria told Ashland that Stitch was briefly married to Abby. Ashland thought it sounded like Abby had a better relationship with her ex than he ever would with Tara.

Ashland and Victoria went back to his room. He wished he’d sold Cyaxares to her and not Victor and Adam. She felt the same way. The phone call he took earlier was about the merger. He said he’d felt so good after they made love, then he had difficulty breathing in front of Adam, and he had to cover. He said they had to close this deal before he was too weak to see it through. She promised they’d get there. She asked if they could set the business aspect of their relationship aside for a minute. He said being with her was wonderful, but he worried he was creating a complication for her that she didn’t need. He said he was dying, and he was worried that pulling her closer wasn’t fair.

Adam went to the main house and told Victor what happened with Ashland. Adam was convinced the rumors about Ashland’s health were true, and he thought they should make a move now, especially if Victoria was going to make her own. Dr. Hedges showed up, and Adam recognized him. Dr. Hedges said he wanted to talk with Victor. Adam asked if it was about Chelsea.

Mariah ran into Ben on her jog through the park. She thought he’d be on his way to Iowa by now. He was just spending a few minutes here before he left. He complimented her for running while pregnant, and he offered to forward her a list of pregnancy exercises his colleague put together. She clarified that she was doing this run for herself. She loved being pregnant and she was thrilled to help Abby, but she was more than a pregnant person. He commented that he’d just mansplained pregnancy, and he said not to mind him. She wished him a safe trip and continued on her run.

Nate, Devon and Moses spent time together at Society. Nate mentioned he hadn’t seen much of Moses lately. Nate joked about the crab cakes, but Moses snapped that it wasn’t funny – Nate could’ve died. Nate didn’t realize Moses was still upset about what happened. Moses admitted he’d been having nightmares. He tried to downplay it, but Devon said if he was having nightmares, it was a big deal. Moses kept dreaming about not being able to help Nate when he was struggling to breathe. Nate countered that Moses helped out by following Elena’s instructions. Moses pointed out that he froze, but Nate said Elena had enough experience not to freeze and panic in an emergency. It was something every doctor would learn. Devon asked if Moses was reconsidering being a doctor, and he said no. Faith walked up wanting to talk to Moses about the summer reading list. The teens went to the patio. Elena showed up and mentioned that Moses and Faith were cute. She wondered if it’d blossom into something.

Devon was glad things seemed to be good between Nate and Elena. He invited them to join him and Amanda for drinks at the penthouse, and they accepted.

Moses thanked Faith for getting him out of that. He told her how he froze when Nate went into anaphylactic shock. He was hesitant to say more, but she encouraged him to go on, noting that she’d shared a lot of embarrassing and personal things with him. He admitted he didn’t think a career in medicine was right for him. She couldn’t believe he was letting one bad moment scare him away from his dream. “What if it’s not my dream? What if it’s just something I thought I needed to do to please my mom and honor my dad for the fact that he just passed on too soon?,” he asked. She didn’t have the answer, but she noted that he was still young, and he didn’t have to lock in his whole future right this minute. He said he only came here to learn how to be a doctor with Nate, and if he wasn’t doing that anymore, his mom might want him to come back home to NY. He didn’t want to go though – he liked Genoa City and everything about it. She hoped he didn’t leave – he was her only friend.

Imani and Naya went to Amanda’s suite. Amanda was relieved Naya agreed to let her represent her. She wanted to strategize. Naya was grateful to be out on bail and to be represented by Amanda, but she wanted to talk about Sutton’s plan for her defense. Amanda contended that it wasn’t about him. Naya said she may have pleaded not guilty at the arraignment, but that didn't change the fact that she confessed. “I’m guilty okay. I had your father killed so the secrets of the two babies that I gave up for adoption would stay a secret,” Naya stated. Amanda replied that no one in this room believed that. She vowed to prove Naya’s innocence by mounting a defense that would keep her out of prison. Imani implored Naya to listen to Amanda. Naya was adamant that she didn’t want Amanda pointing the finger at Sutton, because he had nothing to do with what happened to Richard. Amanda was frustrated Naya was willing to take the blame for Sutton’s crime. Naya stuck to her story. “You need to stop this right now, Mom,” Amanda stated. The startled Naya smiled and noted that Amanda never called her that before. Amanda said she did it because she needed Naya to understand what they were to each other. Amanda was determined to help Naya because they were mother and daughter, but she couldn’t do that if Naya insisted on keeping up this blatant lie. Naya stated that daughters were supposed to listen to their mothers. Amanda added that they were also supposed to care about and protect them.

Amanda didn’t want to lose Naya, and that’s why she needed Naya to get on board with this defense. Naya turned to Imani for support, and her younger daughter looked upset but she didn’t say anything. Naya didn’t understand how Imani could let Amanda influence her on this – her grandfather loved her. Imani asked how she was supposed to be okay with Naya going to prison to protect Sutton. Amanda wanted Naya to renounce her confession. Naya believed Amanda wanted to chip away at her and back her into a corner until she felt forced to go along with redirecting guilt toward her father. She yelled that Amanda wanted to see a great man convicted of murder, a pillar of society and backbone of their family. Amanda argued that Sutton was willing to let his daughter take the fall – some backbone. Amanda sensed that Naya couldn’t face Sutton. Amanda promised that she’d face Sutton for Naya. “Don’t you dare pretend to know what I’m thinking,” Naya ordered. She said there was no proof that Sutton had Richard killed. Amanda said if it existed, she’d find it to keep Naya out of prison.

Amanda said if Michael Baldwin knew what she knew, the case against Sutton would be airtight. The charges were dropped because of Naya’s confession, but that could be reversed. It was clear to Amanda that Sutton killed Richard to keep the pregnancy and adoption hidden. She suspected that Naya had even more damning evidence against Sutton. “If you take my case, you must follow Sutton’s guidance,” Naya stated. Amanda refused to do it Sutton’s way. Imani urged Naya to listen to Amanda, who, unlike Sutton, was trying to keep her out of jail. Imani hated to say this, but her grandfather wasn’t the man she thought he was. “Don’t you dare talk about your grandfather that way!,” Naya yelled. Imani argued that Sutton didn’t deserve Naya’s sacrifice. While Imani was angry with Amanda at first, after she’d processed things, the only one she was mad at was Sutton. She stated that he was allowing his own daughter to take the fall for his crime, and that was inexcusable. Naya argued that Amanda was brainwashing Imani into turning against her grandfather. Naya said that if things didn’t change, she’d have Sutton hire her a lawyer who’d listen to her and Sutton and do what they wanted. She started toward the door. Imani begged Amanda to do things Naya’s way so that she wouldn’t leave.

Imani was sure Amanda would agree that their mother came first. Amanda agreed to leave Sutton out of the defense strategy. She supposed there were other options she could use to get an acquittal, but it wouldn’t be easy. She promised Naya wouldn’t pay for something she didn’t do. Naya wanted to let Sutton know she’d been released. She thanked Amanda and left. Imani suspected Amanda had no intention of going along with Naya’s demands. Amanda smiled. “You may have seen through me, but fortunately Naya didn’t. By the time I’m through she will be free of all these charges and Sutton will finally pay for what he did,” Amanda said. Devon showed up, and Amanda told him about Naya taking the case. He asked if she was ready to take on her grandfather. “No worries, she’s got me in her corner,” Imani said. He was sure the siblings would make a formidable team. Imani said they’d be unstoppable. He told Amanda about inviting Nate and Elena over for drinks. He wanted to get things back on track with his cousin. Amanda was fine with that, and she asked if Imani could join them. He was fine with it, because tonight was about family, and Imani and Amanda were family. The sisters smiled at each other.
