Lily smiled as she came downstairs and saw Billy sitting on their couch. They expressed how attractive they found each other to be. He’d been on his laptop when she came down, but they moved to the kitchen for coffee. She asked what he was working on. He’d been looking at the reporters notes on the Locke story. Lily noticed that the reporter kept playing up Victoria’s sudden involvement with Ashland and how she hadn’t been linked to anyone, but now she was with the male version of herself. Billy thought Ashland and Victoria looked good on paper, but he didn’t think she was emotionally involved with him, because he wasn’t her type. He smiled and called himself an idiot for going on and on about Victoria.

Lily admitted she could do without the dissection of Billy’s ex’s love life. She wondered if the story was too focused on Victoria. He didn’t think they should tone down Victoria’s role in the story. He said he warned her about getting involved with Locke, and she didn’t want to hear his opinion. Lily asked about Katie and Johnny. He said he’d make sure they wouldn’t be harmed by the article, and they weren’t mentioned in it. That was another reason he thought it was a good idea for them to break the story. He felt that all was fair in love and journalism, as long as they told the truth. She mostly agreed, but she thought things could get emotionally dicey, and she wondered if he was ready for that. He said it wasn’t a hit piece – Victoria might even enjoy the spotlight. He stated that if she and Ashland became a thing, they’d become a power couple; titans that people wanted to hear from. He thought it was a brilliant business move. Lily suggested Victoria genuinely had feelings for Ashland – maybe she thought he brought out the best in her and vice versa. Billy said Lily had that effect on him. They went upstairs, with him promising to show her just what kind of effect she had on him.

Victor and Ben were pleased to run into each other at Crimson Lights. Victor was sorry to hear Max’s brain surgery didn’t go to well. After the talk on Ben’s son, they shifted gears and Ben asked how Abby was. Victor thought she was doing pretty well – she was married to a nice guy and expecting a baby. Ben thought he knew Abby pretty well, or at least he used to. He asked how she was really doing. He just figured it must be difficult with Chance away and out of touch on a dangerous operation, which Ben figured was a recurring thing for Chance’s job. Ben wanted the best for Abby. Victor did too. He was sure Chance would be home soon and that he wouldn’t take any more assignments like this after his baby arrived. Ben thought Chance sounded like a good guy, and Abby deserved nothing less. Victor promised Abby was in good hands. Ben said none of this mattered anyway because he was going back to Iowa tomorrow.

Nikki arrived and was happy to see Ben. Later, Ben said, as Nikki’s former doctor, he was glad she hadn’t had any MS flare ups. She knew her symptoms could return, but at the moment, she was living a happy and healthy life. Ben left, and Nikki told Victor she felt like she’d missed something going on between him and Ben. He said he’d simply looked after his family as he always did. She asked what that meant, and he said he told Ben that Abby was happily married to a good man. Nikki hoped Victor wasn’t too harsh wasn’t too harsh on Ben. She felt for Ben and assumed he asked about Abby because he was looking for a sliver of happiness. She said there was nothing worse than watching your own child fade away. Victor agreed that it was horrible.

Tessa got out of bed and went downstairs looking for Mariah. Mariah explained that she got up because the belly was in the way. She suggested that Tessa should sleep, but Tessa wanted to be up if Mariah was up. Mariah admitted she felt guilty, just as Abby walked in and announced she had the surprise Mariah requested for Tessa. She felt bad for ruining the surprise by saying this in front of Tessa, but Mariah didn’t mind. She explained that she bought Tessa some pastelitos to celebrate Tessa’s record breaking view count on her latest video. Mariah rushed off to get some plates. After dessert, Tessa noted that Mariah was quiet. She shifted gears and brought up Mariah’s confession of guilt. Mariah tried to blow it off like no big deal. She said her emotions were all over the place, and she likened it to the time she blew up at Tessa for not taking the trash out, forgetting that the house had staff that handled it. Abby encouraged Mariah to confide in them. Mariah never thought about it before, but she was now realizing pregnancy was incredible. Abby surmised that Mariah felt guilty because she was experiencing this and Abby didn’t get to. Mariah confirmed it. Abby was grateful that the pregnancy was an incredible experience for her.

Abby had been worried Mariah was feeling miserable being pregnant, so it was amazing hearing it was the opposite. Abby said when she was pregnant, she never got this far along. She asked Mariah to explain what it felt like. Mariah talked about pregnancy, the way her heart fluttered sometimes and how it heightened her senses, and Abby closed her eyes as she listened. She held her own belly and said she could almost feel it, and it was magical. Later, Abby thanked Mariah and went to bed. Mariah asked Tessa how she was doing, and if that was too much. Tessa said not at all. She was just excited to take this amazing journey with Mariah. Mariah wasn’t sure how she would’ve survived without Tessa. Tessa stated that Mariah didn’t have to worry about that. Tessa went up to bed after Mariah said she’d be up soon. She rubbed her belly and told the baby that he had a special mommy and a special daddy who’d be there soon. She didn’t notice that Ben was lurking just outside the window and staring in at her.

Jack and Sally bantered at Society. he told her that she made driving in the snow a real adventure. There were times he’d feared for his life. She countered that maybe he wasn’t the best teacher, but he knew that wasn’t true. She asked what else she could learn from him. He thought that she was the one who could teach him a lesson in tenacity and not taking no for an answer. She didn’t think she’d ever gotten a “yes” in her life, the first time she asked. She realized she could either give up on everything she wanted in life or endure repeated rejections. Time flew by, and they were surprised to realize they’d been talking for hours and the staff was prepping to close. She admitted she didn’t think he’d show up, but her thick skin gave her the confidence to ask. He wasn’t sure he’d come at first either. He noted that there were people he was close to that questioned his judgment, but here he and Sally were.

Sally was curious why Jack showed up. He’d been curious to hear why she was so eager to win back his favor. He originally thought the explanation would last the length of a cocktail, but here they were hours later having discussed market trends, labor disputes, toboggan rides, etc. He knew she wanted to meet for more than a drink. She said part of her felt she needed his forgiveness to move on and live the life of her dreams in Genoa City. He asked what that life looked like. After Sally paid her dues and helped JCV soar to the top of the global marketplace, proving Lauren was right to have faith in her, she wanted to relaunch her own line. She wanted it to be so successful, Genoa City would be a fashion Mecca. She wanted to find a life partner and a dog too big to fit in her purse. Her golden years would be reserved for travel. She’d donate the bulk of her earnings to charity. She’d keep designing until the very end, though. He thought she could have all that and more if she maintained the new and improved version of herself. She intended to do that, and if she could earn his forgiveness along the way, it’d be even sweeter. He asked why his forgiveness was important.

Sally said, as Jack may have guessed, given some of the stunts she’d pulled, she’d seen a lot of disappointment in people’s eyes. It really stung her seeing it in his eyes, because he was this good, generous guy, who went out of his way not to judge people too harshly, and she blew it. She couldn’t help but think how badly she must’ve screwed up to fall so hard out of his favor. It surprised her how crazy it drove her, because she trained herself to keep bulldozing forward. It took a lot for her to feel ashamed, but when she saw the look in his eyes, that did it. He said that was never his intention. She wasn’t sure what did it – maybe because he took her by surprise. First she saw him as a mentor, then a friend then more. She didn’t plan or expect to fall for him, but sometimes you knew when it was right. She knew those times were rare, but you had a choice to lose out or stop and recalibrate everything you thought you knew, what you thought defined you. Head to toe reinvention. She said you only do that if it’s worth it, and he definitely was.

Jack wasn’t expecting to hear that Sally was contemplating changing every aspect of her life to try and win him over. She wasn’t making a pitch to get back together, she just wanted to be honest with him. She was also hoping that since she put her cards on the table that he’d do the same. He didn’t say anything. She admitted that she was hoping that this wasn’t a one-way connection. He assured her that it went both ways, but he still didn’t think they should be in a relationship. She accepted this, but she felt that a casual evening together was harmless. He stated that something like this was okay, but he wouldn’t use the word “harmless” when it came to her. She said that was okay because harmless was boring. He said they could definitely do something like this again if she liked. She said she did.

Kyle woke up and went downstairs and found Tara in the living room. He recalled that she’d always had trouble sleeping, and she was surprised he remembered. This night made her think of the rare nights they spent at her place in the Hamptons, when Ashland went back to the city and she sent the staff home for the night. She noted that he’d come over one night and found her sitting by the pool, staring at the stars. He continued the trip down memory lane. He’d gone looking for her that night because he was worried about her. They talked about the stress of worrying they’d get caught. She said it was a whirlwind of emotions, not all of them negative. He added that it ended, as quickly as it began, and he never knew why. She was sorry – she was scared Ashland was getting suspicious, and she didn’t know how to handle it, so she thought cutting it off was the best choice. He noted that she later learned she was pregnant. She said she’d wanted to tell him – part of her thought he needed to know. “Because I did,” he huffed, then he turned away from her. She didn’t want to complicate things, and she didn’t want Ashland to go after him. He turned back to her. He still wished he’d known. He would’ve helped out with Harrison, even if it was in secret. She admitted she second-guessed herself all the time. She said whatever was going on back then didn’t explain why she couldn’t sleep tonight.

Kyle admitted he couldn’t sleep either. He hadn’t been able to sleep since Summer told him he was leaving. He was not interested in trying Tara’s suggestion to drink warm milk. Sometimes he tried tea to help him sleep or a breathing exercise. He told her about the breathing technique, and she said she’d tried that before, but she felt silly doing it. He said they had a pool if she wanted to sit outside and stare at the sky. She decided to try the breathing exercise. He closed his eyes and exhaled, but instead of following along, Tara watched Kyle. They heard a sound, and she thought it was Harrison. She went upstairs, and he pulled out his phone and looked at a photo of Summer.

Tara came down and saw Kyle with his phone. He deleted the picture of Summer. He rushed to Tara and pulled her into a deep kiss. It was a fantasy. In reality, Kyle was concerned when he saw Tara standing in the doorway and staring off into space. He asked if Harrison was okay, and Tara said he was fine; he just had a bad dream. According to Tara, Harrison had drifted off to sleep after she told him not to worry because his daddy was here. Tara was sorry if she upset Kyle talking about the Hamptons, but she didn't have anyone else to talk about it with except him. Ultimately, she was glad the affair happened because it changed her life and gave her Harrison. He admitted it changed his life too. “I was in NY, trying to forget the love of my… the woman I thought was the love of my life,” he said. He did some crazy things then, some he’d always regret, but during the time he spent with her, he learned something he needed to remember right now; he could have a life without Summer. She reminisced about a night they drank cocktails on the pier. He had fun that night, and he said the future was altered when they got together. It was all leading up to this. She agreed. Fatherhood was a game changer for him. He said you couldn’t predict the twists and turns in life, but you had to look for the moment and do what made you happy. She asked what those things were for him. He said Harrison was his top priority, then his work with Jack. He didn’t know what came next, but he had to figure it out day to day.

Victoria showed up at Ashland’s suite in the middle of the night, and he seemed to think she was there to spend the night with him, but she clarified she was here with news. He poured two glasses of bourbon. She’d debated whether or not to share this with him, but she thought he should know. She said Victor overheard their conversation, and though she’d covered, he suspected the rumor about Ashland’s illness was true. Ashland said to let Victor think what he thought, but Victoria said her father was like a dog with a bone, and he was probably planning something right now. He wasn’t fazed and said to let Victor try and make a move. She agreed that they could thwart anything Victor did, but she hoped Ashland realized he couldn’t keep this secret for long. She thought it might be smart to get ahead of the rumors. He wasn’t going to preemptively confirm anything about his health. He didn’t want pity, and before they finalized their deal, he couldn’t afford to look weak and vulnerable. She didn’t see him that way. He was glad, but he already had rivals out for blood. She respected him keeping his condition private, but time was of the essence. She suggested they flip the script by pushing full steam ahead with the merger so that story got the focus instead of anything on his illness. She said they could put out a big public statement and hopefully it’d keep the sharks at bay. He wasn’t afraid of sharks. She knew he wasn’t afraid of anyone or anything. He saw merit in changing the narrative, but he wasn’t in complete agreement with her. He said if they made plans, that meant emails and documents could get out there, and he wasn’t about to risk another leak before the merger papers were signed.

Victoria was coming around to Ashland’s way of thinking, and she was willing to fight any anti-trust issues so the merged company could be one of the biggest and strongest out there. One of the mightiest conglomerates on earth. He noted the hard sell. She acknowledged she was pushing hard because time was a factor. She wanted him to fully experience historic merger in all it’s glory – the two of them side by side. She said the world would have a new dominant business force in them, and she wanted him to share in the spoils. He loved her passion and the fire in her eyes was a bit contagious. He said he wanted to go out with a bang. She wanted to help him leave his mark. He invited her to spend the night with him. She wanted to, but she had to get home to her kids. He understood, but he wanted her and he didn’t want to wait. She said they had L.A. to look forward to, and they could celebrate. He felt she was giving him another reason to live. She liked the attitude, and she wondered if he was considering getting treatment. He said the idea was back on his radar.
