Victoria was with Ashland in his suite. He finished a business call, and he told her that when he started building his empire, he was hands-on, but now his lawyers handled everything. She understood why he was feeling nostalgic about the early days. He said this wasn’t just a deal, it was his legacy. They talked about possibly merging Newman and Locke. As Ashland dreamily imagined possibly building something extraordinary with Victoria, she got the feeling they weren’t talking about the merger anymore. She reminded him that they’d agreed to meet for business purposes, and she suggested they focus on one type of merger and leave the other discussion for another day. He knew she wasn’t the cautious type, but she said she was the focused type. He suggested she wanted to keep him wanting more. He got an alert on his phone that upset him. A gossip site broke the story about his illness and prognosis. She said it was just a tabloid, but he didn’t think that mattered since they clearly got their facts straight. He said there were only a few people who could’ve leaked it. He apologized for running off, but there was someone he had to see.

Billy went to work and told Lily that he hoped things worked out for Kyle. Lily had wanted to say something, but she changed her mind since it was clear that something was weighing on Billy. He wanted to hear what she had to say, to take his mind off things. She showed him an article from the Inquisitor that said Ashland had six months to live. Lily wasn’t sure it was true, but if it was, she felt bad for Harrison. Billy wondered if Victoria already knew about this and if it had something to do with her mysterious comment about having a plan. If she did know, he thought that would make this a huge story. Lily said they’d get some reporters to verify the claims. Billy noted that Victoria had been spending a lot of time with Ashland and that she shut down all of Billy’s questions about it. Lily said that the story on Locke’s health would affect the reporting on the divorce, so they had to take a different approach. “If Victoria puts up walls when you’re asking the questions, then we should switch things up. Let me be the one to do the fishing. Subtly, of course, meanwhile you can focus on Ashland,” Lily said. Billy replied that it was divide and conquer, and Lily said that was their specialty.

Kyle didn’t notice Tara in the hallway when he walked into the Abbott house. He was on the phone with his father. He admitted Jack was right – he wasn’t able to stop Summer from leaving. He ended the call, then he slumped in a chair, dejected. Tara walked in and pretended she didn’t just overhear the phone call. She said Jack told her that Summer was going to leave the country. She asked if there was something she could do, and he said there wasn’t, but he appreciated the offer. Harrison ran in and Kyle brightened, saying Harrison was exactly what he needed. He took his son into the kitchen, and Tara looked pleased with herself. Later, Kyle admired the picture Harrison drew of him. Tara suggested ice cream, and the three of them headed into the kitchen. Shortly afterward, Kyle opened the door to Ashland, who said he was there to see his soon to be ex-wife. Kyle went into protective mode, but Tara said she could handle this, so he left the room. Ashland accused Tara of leaking the news of his illness to the media.

“Just admit it. Now that you’ve latched on to your next set of billionaires you feel you can afford to be vindictive,” Ashland said. He thought that she did this to him because he cut her out of his will. She said she had no idea what he was talking about, but he didn’t believe her. He said only a few people knew, and she was the only one with a motive to destroy him. He asked if she had any idea what this could do to the value and prestige of his company. He yelled that her that hurting Locke Communications group would only hurt Harrison down the road. She continued to say that she didn’t know what was going on. He told her about the leak. She said she wouldn’t do this to him or to Harrison. He hoped she wasn’t foolish enough to think that a stunt like this would give her control of the company if he died before the divorce was final. She said she didn’t want his company, and she never meant to hurt him, but she doubted he’d ever believe that or stop trying to hurt her for what she did. He told her to stop trying to play the victim. She asked if he was with Victoria to hurt her. He told her that she was trying to change the subject. Kyle returned and told them that they had to stop or Harrison would hear them.

Tara said Kyle was right – this ridiculous conversation was over. She said that Ashland didn’t really think he did it – he was just humiliated and accusing her because she was his easiest and most enjoyable target. He told her not to try and talk her way out of this. She told him she was done, and she left the room. Kyle told Ashland to leave. Ashland heard about Summer’s job, and he asked Kyle if he got dumped. He took Kyle’s lack of response as a yes. Ashland wasn’t sorry about what happened to Kyle. He said they were both in the same boat now – the ones who got left behind. He left. Tara was back. Kyle asked why Ashland blamed her for leaking the news. Tara said knowing Ashland, he wanted something to lash out at. She said Ashland was wrong about her, and she wasn’t going to dwell on it. She hoped he didn’t dwell on whatever Ashland said to him. Tara assumed Ashland said something, because Kyle had been having fun with Harrison before Ashland’s arrival, and now his mood had soured. Kyle revealed that Ashland said something about Summer. Tara told Kyle not to let Ashland get to him. Kyle admitted that what Ashland said was true. Tara assured Kyle that he could lean on her. He wished he knew what happened – one minute, he and Summer were planning a wedding, and the next she was moving to Milan and saying she didn’t love him anymore. Tara pretended she was sorry. Kyle said he had to figure out a way to start over. Tara claimed she hoped she and Harrison weren’t a factor in Summer’s decision to leave. He told her not to blame herself. He felt helpless, because he’d told Summer that he’d fight for their love, and she told him there was nothing left for him to fight for. Kyle told Tara that talking through this with her helped more than he’d expected. He’d already talked it over with his dad and a couple close friends, but talking to Tara felt different. She said maybe it was because she’d gone through a heartbreak too. She theorized that it connected them. “If I have to go through this, I’m grateful for the company,” Kyle said.

Adam was on his way out of his apartment when he flashed back to a romantic moment with Chelsea. Next, he recalled asking her if she’d poisoned Rey and framed him for it.

Nikki brought Victor a picture of them kissing, for his office. He said he’d put it in his private office down the hall, and when he looked at it, he’d remember how beautiful she was and how what an adventure their marriage had had been. She suggestively talked about what they’d do if she didn’t have to go back to work. He had thoughts of hiring her at Newman Media, but she didn’t think he actually wanted that, because she believed he still hoped she’d be his informant at Newman Enterprises and spy on Victoria for him. He said no. They talked about Summer. They were sad she was gone, but they hoped she’d be happy. Adam walked in, eager to show Victor something. He apologized for interrupting, but Nikki said she was just leaving. After she left, Adam showed Victor the article on Ashland.

Victor wasn’t sure the gossip site could be trusted. Adam wanted to suppose it was true for a moment. Adam and Victor were on the same page – they thought that Locke Communications group might be vulnerable enough that they could buy the whole thing. They were both suddenly more excited about their conversation with Locke later. They went to Society and met with Ashland. They talked business, and Ashland said that Victor and Adam proved every day they were the best team to take his vision forward. Victor hoped Ashland kept that in mind whenever he was ready to spin off some of his other divisions. Adam said he hated to bring this up, but he wanted to discuss the elephant in the room. “It’s time to transition to speculation about my health right? Or didn’t we just cover that when Victor offered to buy more of my company?,” Ashland said. Victor asked if the rumors were true. Ashland asked when Victor started to pay attention to gossip-mongers. Billy walked in and asked what the story was. Ashland and Victor noted that Billy had jumped into the conversation uninvited. Billy said that Ashland looked strong and vital, but looks could be deceiving. Adam was surprised Billy believed everything he read. Billy noted that he never said he believed it. Adam said the story was garbage, and based on the things Billy had printed in the past, he was surprised Billy didn’t recognize trash when he saw it. “Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated,” Ashland said, adding that he’d never felt more alive and vital. Billy replied that he was relieved, and he left. Ashland thanked Adam.

After Ashland left, Victor said it was smart of Adam to intervene on Ashland’s behalf. Victor thought Ashland appreciated it, and that made him think that the story was true. Victor noticed that Adam was having trouble staying awake. Adam explained that he wasn’t sleeping well at the penthouse. It was full of ghosts, and it was hard to be there alone. He was thinking about moving out and selling it. Victor thought that was a good idea. Adam was hesitating because Connor would be back soon, and he wanted his son to have a sense of normalcy. Victor invited Adam to move to the ranch – he said he could choose the tack house or the main house. Victor said Adam would have the whole ranch at his disposal, and Connor could go riding any time he wanted. Adam marveled at how far they’d come, and he said he’d think about it. Victor was pleased – he wanted nothing more than for Adam to be a member of the family.

Lily ran into Victoria at Crimson Lights. She complimented Victoria’s dress and tried to strike up a conversation about shopping, but Victoria wasn’t really into chitchatting. Lily asked if Victoria saw the article about Ashland in the Inquisitor. Victoria said she’d been busy with work. Lily was sure that the news about Ashland’s health was very disturbing to Victoria. Victoria said that if Lily was fishing for information on Billy’s behalf, she could drop the concern, because Victoria had already shut Billy down on the topic. Lily said she told Billy that Victoria deserved to have someone in her life. “Thank you for your permission, I was waiting for that,” Victoria sarcastically replied. Lily wasn’t trying to be antagonistic, she was just bringing it up because if something was going on with Ashland’s health, it’d affect Victoria too. Victoria pretended she thought it was just a rumor designed to make Ashland look bad – a common business tactic.

Billy and Lily met up again at ChancComm to talk about how their fishing expedition went. The way Adam acted made Billy think there was something to the Ashland story. Lily got the opposite vibe from Victoria. However, Lily thought it was possible that Victoria may have been trying to keep something hidden. He felt like something was going on, and he thought that they were close to getting to the bottom of it. Lily wasn’t so optimistic, given that they’d failed to get Victoria and Ashland to talk. “You got to remember, I know Victoria better than almost anyone,” he replied.

Chloe visited Chelsea at the facility. Chloe was concerned Chelsea wouldn’t be happy to see her after what happened last time she visited – Chelsea had been upset that Chloe took the job Adam offered her. Chelsea said she was just stressed before, but she was better now. Chloe commented that Chelsea was very upbeat. Chelsea whispered that she was acting normal, because it was her only way out. She wanted to get out of here before Adam could poison Connor against her. Chloe asked if Chelsea was acting normal or feeling normal. “What difference does it make? How normal is anyone anyway?,” Chelsea asked. Chelsea said she spent years in love with Adam while he obsessed over Sharon. She conceded she had to take the blame for being clueless, but she thought she was more normal than Adam and Sharon would ever be. Chelsea thought her skills as a con artist would come in handy with the doctors. Chloe asked if Chelsea thought she could really pull off two back to back miraculous recoveries without anyone being suspicious and figuring it out.

Dr. Hedges showed up and asked for some time with Chelsea. Chloe was grateful to Dr. Hedges for helping Chelsea make great progress. Chloe was hopeful Chelsea would soon make a full recovery. Dr. Hedges said this work took time and patience. Chloe left. Chelsea told Dr. Hedges that she finally believed he was right. She’d come to accept that he was on her side and that he’d been trying to help her, from the beginning. He was glad she was finally willing to accept there was more going on in her psyche than she was previously willing to admit. She said she was putting herself in his hands because she wanted to get well for her son.

Chelsea was angry when Adam showed up at her room. She thought he was there to make sure she wasn’t improving. He denied it. He took partial responsibility for pushing her into this place, and he lived with the guilt every day. He wanted her to know Connor was coming home soon, and he hoped that would motivate her to work harder to be released. He added that he was thinking about moving to the Newman ranch. She was enraged because she thought Adam was taking Connor to the ranch to keep her away from him. She accused him of trying to turn Connor against her. He said he’d never do that to her or to Connor, but she didn’t believe him. She’d had a lot of time to think, and she’d come to a conclusion - “you are my biggest enemy,” she stated.

Nikki went into Victoria’s office. She saw some papers with Locke’s logo on it, and she started reading them. “Looking for something?,” Victoria asked, as she walked in, with her arms crossed. Nikki said she was there to drop off some numbers from the San Francisco office, and it was hard to miss the documents from Locke Communications Group. As COO, Nikki was surprised to learn that something was going on that she hadn’t been advised of or consulted on. “If I felt the need to run something by you, I would do so,” Victoria stated. She wanted Nikki to stop questioning her every move. Nikki said that wasn’t her intention, and this had nothing to do with Victoria’s feelings or lack of feelings for Ashland. Nikki was just trying to do her job. Nikki asked if the documents had anything to do with the future of Newman. Victoria said she just wanted to do some research on Ashland’s business. Nikki asked if that research had anything to do with the news that came out today on Ashland. She asked if the rumor was true, and Victoria pretended she didn’t know. Nikki asked if Victoria really didn’t know or if she was trying to protect Ashland. Victoria swore Nikki to secrecy. Nikki thought it was clear that she could be trusted, after all the secrets she’d kept and continued to keep. Victoria revealed that the article was true and that she’d pitched folding Ashland’s company into Newman to ensure his legacy. “Well, you are your father’s daughter, aren’t you?” Nikki replied. Nikki asked where the deal stood. Victoria said it looked promising, so she didn’t want Nikki to say a word to anyone.
