At Crimson Lights, Sally ran into Jack and gave a glowing review of Jabot’s new mascara, which she’d used while it was in trials. The product was set to launch at Fenmore’s soon, and she offered to go over the numbers with him if he was interested, by email of course, she added. He noticed she was in a remarkably good mood, and he asked if there was a reason for that. She said she was happy with her life, she loved her job and the city. Even though she lost his trust, she still counted him as one of the most fascinating men she’d ever known. She planned to be at Genoa City and Fenmore’s for a long time. He was glad she found a home. She said whether he cared or not, she was glad he was there too. She left.

Tara was in the lounge at The Grand Phoenix. She called Lauren to set up a meeting to market her shoe line. She was happy about making Genoa City her permanent home. Phyllis was behind the bar, and she looked annoyed as she watched Tara leave. Nick showed up, and he was on edge about Summer’s job offer and because she never responded to Phyllis’s text. Phyllis wanted Nick to calm down since he wasn’t even supposed to know about this. She told him to think of how angry Summer would be if she found out Phyllis broke her confidence. He didn’t care if Summer got mad, because he felt that Phyllis would naturally tell him that their daughter was thinking about moving halfway around the world. He wanted to know why Summer was putting so much distance between her and Kyle.

Phyllis texted Summer and asked to talk before she did something that couldn’t be undone. Nick opined that pretty much every bad decision Summer had made could be linked back to Kyle. Phyllis didn’t think that was entirely true. He brought up the time Summer moved to Chicago as a kid to get away from Kyle. Phyllis said kids did things like that. He mentioned the failed elopement and the time she gave up part of her liver for Kyle. Phyllis suggested she and Nick were like Summer and Kyle, and he disagreed. Phyllis said she and Nick were were on again off again and they couldn’t live without each other. He admitted she might have a point. He thought they’d need to tell Summer that there were times her relationship would be rocky, but she didn’t have to move to Europe. Phyllis didn’t think throwing Summer’s past relationship issues in her face would help. Phyllis thought they had to figure out why Summer suddenly wanted to go to Milan.

At Society, Kyle wanted to know what Summer had been holding back. She told him that the phone call earlier was from Angelina Marchetti. He thought that was incredible. She revealed that she was taking the job. He was caught off guard when he learned that she’d decided to take a job in Italy without running it by her fiance. He protested that her whole life was here. She said she needed to get away from Genoa City. She said they’d been here before like when they were going to elope, but she couldn’t go through with it. He said they worked through that, and they could face anything. She stated that this wasn’t just the two of them anymore, it was Harrison, Tara and Ashland too. He thought things would work out. She said she had to trust her instincts this time. She was getting that bad feeling again, and she thought it was a rational and appropriate response. He reminded her that she’d said she was okay with everything that was happening. She said she moved up the wedding to August in a desperate act to prove to everyone that they would be fine, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary. She couldn’t see herself raising a child with him that was the result of an affair with a woman who he clearly still had feelings for.

Kyle insisted that he didn’t have feelings for Tara. He said Tara liked Summer, which is why it was so weird that she was throwing this at him out of the blue. Summer and Kyle were both crying. He reminded her that she’d said she supported him being in Harrison’s life, and she was with him 100%. She claimed she said that because she wanted to be the strong and supportive girlfriend. She said that he was so protective of Tara, and she’d seen close intimate moments between them. The other day she heard him tell Tara that he didn’t want her to be alone in the situation and that he wanted her to stay in Genoa City. Kyle told Summer that she was the only one he loved, and he clarified that he’d been glad Tara was relocating because that was best for Harrison. Summer said Kyle was fully invested in Harrison’s life, as he should be. She said she tried to be the bigger person, but she couldn’t, and it wasn’t fair of him to ask that of her. He was sorry if he pressured her. He didn’t mean to. She said she’d never stand in the way of him being with his child, so she was giving him what he really wanted. He stated that he wanted to build a life with her, and if the job meant so much to her, he’d go to Milan with her. She said he couldn’t, because of Harrison. He said he’d fly back and forth, but she said it wasn’t the same. She reminded him that he’d just said how important it was that his child’s parents be in the same place. He countered that it wasn’t the same situation. She argued that if he went to Milan, he’d be missing out on moments with Harrison, and he’d come to resent her for that. He swore he’d never resent her. She said he’d try at first, then he’d start to blame her for creating the situation by taking the job, and she couldn’t face that. He felt she was jumping to a worse case scenario. Summer said she was taking this job so she could live the life she wanted, and so he could have the life he needed to, by raising his son. He cried that there had to be a way for them to stay together. He loved her, and he wasn’t going to let her walk out of his life. She tearfully apologized, but she was adamant that this was for the best. She rushed out.

Summer came into the hotel weeping. She was headed upstairs when Phyllis intercepted her and revealed that she’d told Nick everything. Phyllis said they loved Summer and that would never change. Summer announced that she broke the news to Kyle. Nick appeared and asked why Summer was being so secretive if she really thought this was a good decision. Summer didn’t make this decision lightly, and she had to handle it her way without judgment. She said the job was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and she was going to take the job. Nick tried to suss out what was going on, and Summer wouldn’t really elaborate beyond saying that she knew in her heart she had to do this. Phyllis encouraged Summer to take some time to think, but she said Angelina Marchetti wanted her to start right away. Nick asked what Kyle did to drive Summer away. Summer told Nick not to go there. She said Kyle had a son now, and he was just trying to do right by him. Summer said she was just trying to do what was best for herself, and she wanted to be magnanimous, but she wasn’t. She couldn’t live like an outsider while Kyle and Tara raised their son. She said she should be living her dreams, and her parents should be proud of her for that. They said they were. She said not to blame Kyle and to stop treating her like she didn’t know what she was doing. She added that they could be happy for her, then she stormed off. Phyllis made note of how strongly Summer defended Kyle. Nick still thought Kyle did something to hurt Summer, but Phyllis wasn’t so sure.

A devastated Kyle burst into the family home, and he asked Tara to let him talk to his dad alone. Tara claimed she was going to the garden, but she stayed to eavesdrop. Kyle rapidly told Jack the whole story. He said that he and Summer didn’t even order dinner without discussing it first, and now she was talking about jetting off to Milan like it was nothing. Jack understood why Summer would think about taking a job with Marchetti; it was an iconic brand. Kyle argued that Summer loved JCV – they created it together; it was their baby, and now she was going to abandon it and abandon him? Jack was on Kyle’s side, but he had to be sympathetic to Summer, because a lot had been asked of her. Kyle said he’d been honest with Summer about Harrison almost from the beginning, so he didn’t know why she couldn’t be honest with him and tell him what she felt. Jack spoke from what he thought was Summer’s point of view – she used to be Kyle’s everything. Kyle said she still was, so Jack asked what about Harrison. Jack said Harrison changed the dynamic of their relationship in ways that Summer never bargained for. He didn’t blame anyone for that. Kyle said that he and Summer loved each other, and Harrison wouldn’t be three forever, and he wouldn’t always need as much of Kyle’s time. Kyle asked how to stop Summer from leaving. Jack asked if Kyle was ready to let go of Harrison.

Jack knew Kyle had grown close to Harrison. “I didn’t even know he existed a few months ago!,” Kyle exclaimed. Jack asked Kyle to look at how much he’d come to depend on his relationship with Harrison. Jack asked if he was willing to give that up. Kyle asked why it had to be either/or. He didn’t ask for Harrison to come into his life, but he had – the universe threw him curveballs, and you found a way to make it work. Jack suggested that Summer was doing that in her own way and that she made this decision out of love for Kyle. Kyle was determined to figure out a way. “I just need to find a way to slow down,” he said, as his voice broke. He just had to figure out a way to show Summer that he needed her in his life and in Harrison’s life and that this could be the start of something beautiful. From her hiding place, Tara watched Kyle leave, then she came into the living room and asked Jack if Kyle was gone. He said yes, and she asked what was going on. He cryptically said that change was difficult, then he left the room. She texted Sally that they were so close to getting what they wanted. Sally was at Crimson Lights. She read the text and smiled.

Kyle went home, and he found Summer packing. He told her that he couldn’t and wouldn’t let her do this.

Denise, the private investigator, met with Amanda and Devon on the Crimson Lights patio. She’d done some digging and gotten a hold of Richard and Naya’s phone records for the two weeks before he was to meet with the foster family. Amanda noted that, since Richard was killed a few days before the meeting was to take place, the records would show anyone who Richard was in contact with during that crucial time period. Richard didn’t call anyone at Newman, but he called Sutton three times, and he placed a call to Naya’s cell phone, which lasted more than five minutes. Amanda mentioned that Naya had claimed she’d avoided Richard’s calls. Devon said apparently, Naya was lying about that too. Amanda asked Denise to stay on the case and see what else she could dig up. Denise hoped Amanda found her answers and that they brought her peace. Denise left.

Amanda couldn’t believe Naya lied to her, but Devon said he could. Amanda wondered what Naya and Richard talked about during that five minute call – did she try to stonewall him with more lies, or did she tell him about the babies? She decided to demand answers from Naya. Later, in her suite, she looked at a picture of her father. She told Devon that she’d foolishly believed she could keep her emotional distance from her family. She added that it wasn’t as if her family wanted anything to do with her. He felt that she didn’t need her family, because she had people in her life who knew she was amazing. She tearfully said the more she learned about Richard, the more she knew she would’ve loved him. He asked what she’d say to her father if she could. She thought it’d be a combination of thanking him for searching for her and an apology that he didn’t get to meet her. She felt like she let Richard down because she didn’t know what happened to him. Devon felt that Amanda’s family was the one who let her down over and over again. He said Sutton shut down her amazing defense strategy, but that didn’t stop her from digging. He thought that showed her strength. She wondered if she was strong enough to walk away from what was left of her family.

Devon gave Amanda a pep talk before her meeting with Naya. Naya arrived, and Devon left. Naya admitted that she’d almost declined this meeting, because Amanda had sounded angry on the phone. Amanda thought Naya could imagine how it made Amanda feel when Naya warned her not to walk away from Sutton’s case. She recalled Naya saying Amanda didn’t want Sutton as an enemy. Naya said Amanda misinterpreted that. Amanda thought it was a threat, but Naya said it wasn’t – she was just looking out for Amanda. Naya asked if Amanda changed her mind about helping Sutton. Amanda said that depended on how Naya answered her question. “No more lies, Naya. Did you speak to my father before he died? Did you tell him about me?,” Amanda asked.

Amanda revealed that she knew for a fact that Naya talked to Richard just before he died. Naya asked how Amanda could know that, and Amanda testily asked if Naya wanted to see the phone records. Naya said it was a long time ago, but Amanda doubted Naya would forget the father of her twins hunting her down. Amanda asked how Richard found out about the pregnancy, and Naya said she didn’t know. Naya admitted the call happened. She said Richard reached out because he couldn’t stand that she’d disappeared from school and from his life without explanation. She supposed he had some idea of what happened because pregnancy was a reason that girls disappeared from school back then. He’d told her that he searched for the truth until he had confirmation that she was pregnant and that someone at his job steered him to an investigator who could help. Richard had sounded so desperate, according to Naya. She tried to pay him to let it go, because it’d hurt her father’s campaign, but he’d had been disgusted and insulted by her attempt to bribe him. He’d admitted to being far more in love with her than she was with him. All he wanted was his daughters. Amanda was caught off guard, and Naya confirmed that Richard knew there were twins. Naya had worried about what Richard would do and what would happen if this got out to the press. Amanda believed that Naya ran to her dad. Naya nodded. “And Sutton had Richard killed, not because of his bribery scheme, no he did it to silence the one person who could destroy his life,” Amanda yelled. “Sutton was willing to commit murder to keep Hilary and I a secret. Oh my God.” She looked at Naya with revulsion.

“Amanda,” Naya said. “Don’t you dare say my name,” Amanda snarled. Naya needed Amanda to understand. Amanda said she understood all too well. She noted that before she took Sutton’s case, she asked if he could be guilty. “You looked me straight in the eye and you lied to me,” Amanda cried. Naya said she didn’t lie then and she wasn’t lying now. She convinced Amanda to look into her eyes and see that she was telling the truth. She was ashamed of how she handled Richard and she was heartbroken that he didn’t get to be part of Amanda’s life, but that wasn’t Sutton’s fault. Naya was adamant that Sutton wasn’t that kind of man, and she said Amanda had to believe her. Amanda snapped that she didn’t believe a damn word coming out of Naya’s mouth.
