Ashland stated that when he invited Victoria up to his suite, this wasn’t what he was expecting. She thought he had to admit merging Locke Communications Group and Newman Enterprises would solve a lot of his issues. He noted that, thanks to Billy, the rumor was out that Victor may have exploited his heart attack to close the Cyaxares deal. If the news about his cancer got out, then the public found out he and Victoria had a deal, people might assume it was more of the same. He asked if that gave her pause. She replied that it’d only give her pause if he felt that way.

Ashland said Victoria was too smart to wonder whether he could clearly evaluate a business proposal. He stated that he was still of sound mind, if not body. He also liked to think she wouldn’t trouble him with an offer that was less than serious, since he had so little time left. She noted that he’d said he had two main concerns – providing for Harrison and preserving his legacy. She knew he could take care of Harrison, and she could make sure his company could thrive and stay intact. She said he could trust her to achieve his goals. She thought if she could take some of the burden off his shoulders, he could have focus on the things that mattered the most. He said that was the most compelling argument she could make, which didn’t surprise him because he knew she was a talented negotiator. She appreciated that, but she acknowledged that he didn’t say yes. He replied that he also didn’t say no. he wondered if he’d ever see her again if he declined the offer. She hoped he already knew the answer, but he asked her to humor him.

Victoria pointed out that she spent a lot of time with Ashland before he found out he was ill, because she liked being with him. He was one of the few people who understood what her life was like. He said it was lonely at the top. She said it was more than that – when she was with him, she could acknowledge she thrived at the top without sounding arrogant. He asked who cared how she sounded to anyone else, especially since she was telling the truth. She agreed that she shouldn’t have to apologize for her accomplishments. She also liked being around him because he gave good advice. She was glad she could come to him with questions. He said it was beginning to sound like she’d miss him when he was gone. She said she definitely would. She suspected he’d have an answer for her soon. He told her this was the kind of deal that could take months to put together if not longer. She said they had a head start because his team looked over Newman’s books while she was bidding for Cyaxares. She said with any other potential partner, he’d have to start from scratch, which would eat into his time and might even cause a frenzied speculation. She decided to leave so he could think. Disappointed, He asked if she didn't want to stay and convince him of the brilliance of her plan. She said she’d check in tomorrow.

Downstairs, Victoria ran into Billy. He asked if she’d come from Ashland’s suite, and she pretended she didn’t know he was staying there. She asked why Billy was there. He stopped in for a drink after a meeting in the area. He invited her to join him. She didn’t want to, because he’d been intrusive when they talked this morning, but she eventually agreed after he promised not to pry.

They went to the lounge and talked about the kids, who were in day camp. He asked if she and Ashland met each others’ kids. She said he was worse than her father. She reminded him that she told him he couldn’t use their children as an excuse to express his concern over her. She added that he was the one who moved in with someone without sharing the information with her. He countered that Lily was kind and warm and a total sweetheart, while Ashland, the Locke Ness Monster was ruthless, and the last person he ever thought she’d be involved with. He thought it was risky. Victoria reminded Billy that, when they were breaking up, he said she needed to be more reckless and spontaneous and that she was stifling him, and now he was giving her the opposite advice. He said Ashland was trouble. He noted that the only reason she met Ashland was when she bid on his company to protect Billy. She reminded him that he’d been ticked off about that. She asked why he was acting like she was so gullible and defenseless. “Maybe I have a plan. Did you ever think of that?,” she asked. He asked what that meant. She looked up and saw Lily. “Oh, look, it’s the total sweetheart. I’ll leave you alone so that you can enjoy your beautiful new life together. I hope that you’ll do me the same courtesy,” she said, then she left.

Lily asked what just happened. Billy said Victoria was visiting Locke, even though she wouldn’t confirm it. It didn’t bother him that she was moving on, but Ashland was a ruthless jerk. Lily thought Victoria could handle herself. She suggested this could be a dalliance or a friendship. He thought Victoria might be up to something. He didn’t know what it was, but she was playing with fire. He knew she was going to say Victoria was an adult who could take care of herself. She said actually, she was going to say his instincts were usually spot on, so if his alarm bells were going off, they should take this seriously.

Lily asked if Billy warned Victoria that they were doing an article on Ashland’s divorce. He hadn’t, and he knew she’d be ticked off about the article. Lily wasn’t worried about that. She said it was Victoria’s decision to get involved with a public figure going through a very public divorce. She didn’t think that was like Victoria, so maybe he was right that something more was going on. She decided to oversee the investigation with her. He was surprised since he had to talk her into covering it. She said he was right – it was a big story, and they should cover it, but his nephew was a major player, and now it looked like his ex-wife might not be as peripheral as they thought. He thought she wanted to keep an eye on him. She asked if he objected. He didn’t – he thought it’d be fun.

Ashland and Victoria ran into each other at Crimson Lights. She was getting tomorrow’s breakfast, and he was buying coffee as a sleep aid. As they parted ways, he stopped and admitted he’d lied. He’d actually bought the coffee so he could stay up late thinking about her offer, but now that he saw her here, he knew what he wanted to do. He said if he took her offer, he’d protect his company from vultures, and he’d get to work her. He was definitely interested.

Abby was napping on her couch, and someone else was in the room. As the mystery person crept closer and hovered over her, Nina came home. Abby woke up and asked if someone was just here. Nina didn’t think so. Abby assumed she must’ve been dreaming. Mariah walked in wearing pjs, even though she felt it was far too early to be wearing them. Nina shared that she’d talked to Christine, who was going to follow a lead on Chance. Nina knew Christine wouldn’t be able to tell them where Chance was or what he was doing, but hopefully, she’d be able to tell them about his well being.

Mariah let Abby smell some fragrance blotters. Abby didn’t care for the scent, and she could tell the perfume wasn’t designed by her mom. Nina declined to participate, because it all smelled the same to her. She’d been wearing the same perfume for years. Christine showed up with news from Chance’s superior. He’d talked to Chance after the phone call from Abby that dropped. He was fine, as of a few days ago. Chance was originally sent to Michigan, but that didn’t mean he was still there. Mariah asked why Chance hadn’t called Abby back if he’d been calling his superior. From what Christine heard, Chance was closing in on someone, which meant there would be less opportunities for him to make contact, but it also meant there was an end in sight. Abby and Nina thanked Christine, who left.

Mariah ate potato chips and marshmallow fluff. Nina said she had some weird cravings when she was pregnant with Chance. Mariah defended her concoction as a delicacy and looked to Abby for support. Nina looked over and noticed Abby was researching organized crime in Michigan. She said it didn’t seem right trying to distract herself while her husband could be dealing with this level of destruction and violence.

Mariah had an idea for a distraction – she had Nina and Abby play some of Tessa’s music to see how the baby responded. Abby played a song. Mariah said the baby liked it, and she danced. Abby thanked Mariah for cheering her up, but she felt guilty because she was the one who was supposed to be taking care of Mariah. Mariah felt well taken care of. Mariah went to get more marshmallow chips, and Nina went to get lemon for her water. Someone stared in at Abby through the window.

At the Abbott house, Kyle asked Tara where his dad was. She said he went to the office. Kyle said the nanny was getting Harrison ready for a bath. He had a talk with the toddler about the lost ball, and he seemed to feel better. He was surprised that Harrison had been upset about something so small. She suggested that it was really anxiety about the divorce bubbling to the surface. She said Harrison didn’t know who he could count on, and he’d be crushed when Ashland died. Kyle had ordered some books on grief in children so they’d know how to handle it when the time came. Tara appreciated that. He said he had a lot to learn. She said the most important thing was that Kyle was a consistent part of their son’s life. He was grateful that she stayed in town so he could be part of Harrison’s life instead of moving to a different city and keeping him on the sidelines. She said she could never do that to him or to Harrison.

Kyle asked Tara if she ever got in contact with Lauren about a possible deal with the shoe line. Tara had it on her tentative to-do list, but it got pushed out of her head when Ashland told her about the illness. She was going to call soon though. She appreciated the family’s hospitality, but it was important for her to be self-sufficient. He hoped she didn’t move too soon, since Jack loved having her and Harrison here. She thought Jack and Harrison’s connection was sweet. She was happy about Jack’s plan to have a gathering to introduce Harrison to the Abbotts. After Ashland demanded the divorce, she’d resigned herself to the fact that Harrison wouldn’t have much family, but now he would.

At The Grand Phoenix, Summer asked Sally what kind of self-serving deal Sally made with Tara Locke. Sally lied that she didn’t know what Summer was talking about. Summer believed Sally knew Summer would get the job offer. Sally pretended to be jealous and disappointed that the job fell into Summer’s lap. Summer knew Sally told Tara about the job offer. “So what if I did?,” Sally asked. Sally claimed she’d been venting to Tara about getting passed over in favor of Summer., but Tara had been happy for Summer, just like everyone else in this stupid town. Sally whined about not getting the job. Summer said that she never made any attempt to get hired at Marchetti. Sally asked if Summer was going to take it. Summer said she didn’t know. Sally stated that it was the opportunity of a lifetime, that Summer would be crazy to pass up.

Summer felt Sally wasn’t telling the whole story. She asked why Angelina Marchetti would even know she existed, let alone consider her to be the number one candidate. Sally pretended to be angry. She snapped that it was insensitive for Summer to act like getting this job offer, that Sally was desperate for, was no big deal. Sally said Summer couldn’t handle that there was even one person who didn’t think she was perfect and deserving. In a voice dripping with sarcasm, Sally said she was so happy for Summer, and she was obviously more creative and talented than everyone else that was in the running. Sally stormed out of the hotel.

Summer went to the Abbott house and tried to get Kyle to take a walk with her so they could talk in private about why she was so upset earlier. Before he could reply, Tara came downstairs and told Kyle that Harrison wanted him. He promised Summer this would only take a minute. Tara made small talk at Summer for a second, then she asked if Summer got the job offer. Summer said she did, and she thought it was weird that Tara knew about it before Summer did. Tara asked if Summer took the job. Summer said no – she said Tara was being irrational. She added that Kyle had room in his heart for Summer and Harrison. When Tara found out Summer was planning to tell Kyle what was said, she announced that she was taking Harrison away in the morning. Summer told Tara to calm down – there was no reason to leave. Tara moaned that Summer was going to go to the Abbotts and paint her as manipulative and evil. Summer only planned to give Kyle and Jack a factual account of what happened, since it involved Harrison. Tara thought the Abbotts might badmouth her in front of her son. Summer said Kyle would never hurt Harrison, unlike Tara who was threatening to take away the only father he’d have. Tara wouldn’t take that risk. Summer suggested they take a step back and pretend this never happened. She swore she’d never stand in the way of Harrison and Kyle’s relationship. She said she wasn’t a threat. Tara said Harrison deserved to grow up in a loving two parent home. She said Kyle fell for her before, when she was married, and now that she was single, it’d be easy to rekindle those feelings, since she was the one who ended the relationship, not him. Summer called Tara delusional. She said Kyle had only been interested in Tara because he was trying to get over Summer. “So whatever you two had is nothing compared to the decades of what Kyle and I share,” Summer stated. Tara was aware they were childhood sweethearts, but she said first loves weren’t meant to last a lifetime. Summer said she and Kyle were an exception, and even if she did take the job in Italy -. Tara interjected to say that the fact that Summer hadn’t turned the job down meant that she knew deep down taking it was the right thing to do. Tara asked if she was packing Harrison’s bags or if Summer was packing hers. Summer said Kyle was committed to her, whether she was here or across the continent, and he wouldn’t be seduced by other women, not even the mother of his child. Tara told Summer to set Kyle free – cancel the engagement and leave. Summer accused Tara of wanting to take advantage of Kyle’s broken heart, just like she did in NY.

Tara called Summer a naive child. She said that what she and Kyle had was real, deep and it still existed. Summer scoffed and argued that Tara and Kyle only had the thrill of hiding an affair. Tara thought Summer sensed the connection between Tara and Kyle, and that was why she was trying to push the wedding through before Kyle figured out what he really wanted. Summer called that ludicrous. Tara said that if Kyle had time to truly bond with Harrison, he’d figure out he wanted to be with the mother of his child. Summer said that everyone would see through Tara and realize what she really wanted was to latch onto another wealthy man. Tara said her feelings for Kyle were genuine. Summer was sure Tara loved Kyle’s bank account and CEO title. Tara said she held all the leverage. She said if Summer didn’t want Kyle to lose his son, there was only one choice for her to make. “You utter bitch,” Summer snapped. “Oh sweetie, you have no idea,” Tara replied.

It mystified Summer that Tara could claim she had feelings for Kyle then threaten to take away his only son. Tara said she told Kyle from the beginning that if he wanted to be part of Harrison’s life, he needed to be all in, and for that to happen, Summer needed to be all out. Kyle came downstairs amused by a song Harrison made up. He asked Tara to excuse them, but she said she’d go for a walk so he and Summer could talk. Tara left. Kyle imagined school concerts with Harrison in the future. Summer decided not to say anything. She said she didn't want to bring him down, and she could handle it on her own.

Summer went home, she called Phyllis and left a message saying she’d been looking all over for her. She asked if they could talk in the morning.
