At the park, Kyle had to stop himself from intervening when he saw the kids roughhousing in the sandbox. Jack laughed and said Harrison was a New Yorker, and he could handle himself. Kyle asked how you stopped yourself from wanted to protect your child. Jack said you didn’t, you just hid it better, and you learned that you couldn’t always protect your kid. Jack was impressed by the way Kyle was handling fatherhood. Kyle replied that he learned from the best. He always knew Jack would make a good grandfather. Jack loved the time he spent with Harrison. Kyle was scared when he found out he might have a child, and now he couldn’t imagine his life without Harrison. Jack said, luckily, Kyle didn’t have to.

Kyle marveled at how much Harrison had changed his life, when they’d only known each other less than a month. He thought about all the milestones he’d missed, like learning to walk and talk. He vowed to be there for Harrison, through good times and bad. Jack felt the same way when he learned Kyle was his son. He said ultimately, the most important thing was what was best for the boy. He asked if Kyle had given any thought to Harrison having two fathers. He was sure that Ashland and Kyle would have different views on the way to raise Harrison. Kyle wasn’t worried about that right now. Jack figured it wouldn’t matter much until Harrison was older. He said as long as Kyle and Ashland put Harrison first, everything would be fine. “Given my experience with Phyllis and your mother, do everything in your power to foster a healthy cordial relationship between Summer and Tara,” Jack advised.

At the Abbott house, Summer asked what kind of proposition Tara was talking about. Tara heard from a reliable source that an opportunity would present itself to Summer. She revealed that Angelina Marchetti was on the verge of offering Summer the creative director job at her fashion house in Italy. Summer knew that came from Sally, and she said she thought Tara would know better than to trust anything Sally said. “You will be receiving a very generous offer. It’s all been arranged. And you are going to accept it,” Tara stated. Summer asked what made Tara think she had any interest in moving to Italy. Tara listed the country’s perks, including the men. Summer said she had a man, and she and Kyle had great jobs in Genoa City. She said their families were here, and Harrison was here. “I never said Kyle should go. Just you,” Tara said. She urged Summer to seize this opportunity. Summer said there was no job she’d choose over Kyle. Tara informed Summer that she would take the job, not despite her love for Kyle, but because of it.

Tara said that Harrison had changed Kyle. She suspected he’d never been so invested in anyone in his life. She added that Kyle had been dreaming of watching Harrison grow up, and he’d never want to give that up. Tara asked Summer to imagine how awful it’d be if something came between Kyle and his little boy. Summer thought that almost sounded like a threat. “If you don’t take this job and leave the country, I will make sure Kyle never sees Harrison again,” Tara threatened. Summer noted that she was getting a look at the real Tara for the first time. She said Tara had everyone fooled, pretending to be the victim who only cared about her son’s well-being. Tara was adamant that Harrison deserved the stability of having two parents who were together. “Yeah, that makes sense since you just found out that Ashland only has six months left to live,” Summer replied. Tara was caught off guard. Summer said Kyle told her because they didn’t keep secrets from each other. Summer was astounded by how quickly Tara started to make plans. Summer thought Tara loved living lavishly, being part of an elite circle and seducing all her party guests in the home she shared with her husband and the child she claimed was her everything. Tara thought that Summer wanted to think the worst of her because it would hurt too much to acknowledge what Kyle and Tara had in NY. Summer said the truth was Kyle used Tara because he wasn’t with Summer, but now they were back together, and they were meant to be. Summer said she and Kyle were going to get married, and she was the one he shared everything with. Tara countered that they didn’t share the most important thing – a child. Summer said Harrison wasn’t Tara’s first priority, it was maintaining her lifestyle that Ashland was cutting her off from. Summer thought that if Tara really cared about Harrison they way she claimed she did, she wouldn’t threaten to take away the only father he was going to have left. Summer said Tara had to know that she was going to tell Kyle about this threat. Tara wasn’t concerned, because there was nothing Kyle could do about it. Tara said if Kyle tried to take Harrison from her, she and her son would disappear for good, and Kyle would never forgive Summer. Tara felt that Summer had no choice.

Tara talked about how quickly Kyle had fallen in love with Harrison. Summer argued that the Abbott family wouldn’t let Tara get away with this. Tara said she’d been married to the ruthless Ashland Locke for years, while hiding his son’s paternity, and he taught her so much. She confirmed that she was showing her real personality – a woman who could handle anything and anyone, including the Abbotts. Summer vowed to warn the Abbotts. “I thought you loved Kyle more than that. I mean you said that there wasn’t anything you wouldn’t do. Guess I was wrong about you after all,” Tara said. “Guess you’re seeing the real me for the first time too,” Summer said, and she walked out.

At the park, Summer overheard Harrison and Kyle talking about a lost toy. Kyle knew Harrison missed the ball that disappeared, but they could get another, and then tomorrow morning, they could come back and look for the missing one. Jack returned and joined Summer. He joked that Jabot might close up because the CEOs were going to the park instead of work. Jack was planning a family gathering so Harrison could meet everyone. He was relieved Ashland dropped the threat to cut Kyle out, not that Tara would’ve agreed to a deal like that. Jack said that losing Harrison would devastate Kyle. Tara walked up and smirked at Summer from afar.

At their suite, Kyle packed a bag. Summer said she’d miss him. He’d miss her too, but his kid invited him to sleep over, and he couldn’t say no. she understood. Harrison had been upset to lose the ball Kyle gave him, and it broke Kyle’s heart. Summer revealed that she knew, because she saw them together. Kyle felt he had a lot of time to make up for. He wanted Harrison to know he wasn’t going anywhere. Summer looked like she might cry, and Kyle wondered if he needed to tell her that he wasn’t going anywhere either. He asked what was wrong, and she said it was nothing. He wanted to know if she felt like she wasn’t getting enough of his attention or if she felt left out. He reminded her that they told each other everything.

Back at the Abbott house, Tara and Jack discussed Harrison. He was still upset over the ball. Jack said it was the first gift Kyle gave him. Tara hoped he’d feel better once Kyle got here. Jack promised wild horses wouldn’t keep Kyle away. Kyle walked in while on the phone with Summer. He told her he loved her and ended the call. Kyle said Summer was distracted when he was with her, like she wanted to tell him something, but couldn’t. Jack said that he didn’t think Harrison would sleep until he saw Kyle. Jack left the room. Tara was glad Kyle came. He said he’d do anything for Harrison. Tara hoped Summer felt the same way and that she’d make room for Harrison in their lives. Kyle said Summer knew how important Harrison was to her. Tara believed that was true.

Back at the suite, Summer was lying on the couch crying when Angelina Marchetti called.

At the Chancellor house, Mariah and Nina walked in on Abby snuggling Chance’s sweatshirt. Abby told them how Chance sent it to Devon to give to her. Mariah missed wearing Tessa’s clothes to feel close to her. She held her belly and told the baby their dad was a rock star. Mariah left for her walk. Nina admitted that, despite what she told Abby about being patient, she wanted answers about Chance too. Christine got to the Abbott house thinking she’d just be visiting her best friend, Nina. Abby explained that she was concerned about Chance. She and Nina just wanted to make sure he was okay. Christine wished she could help, but she didn’t have that kind of clearance. Nina wondered if Christine could make some calls. Nina understood the need for secrecy, and she’d been kept in the dark for weeks or months in the past, but now Chance had a wife and a child on the way. Abby explained her feelings. She knew the job was part of the package, but she needed to know her baby’s father was safe. She’d nearly lost him once. Christine couldn’t make any promises, but she’d do what she could.

Mariah returned after Christine left. Everyone was chatting, and Abby asked if Mariah was craving anything. “This boy loves his peanut butter and apples,” Mariah slipped up and said. Nina and Abby’s eyes widened, and Mariah tried to convince them that they didn’t hear what they just heard. When Mariah pointed out that Abby had wanted to wait for Chance’s return to get the news, Nina joined in on pretending that Mariah didn’t literally mean that the baby was a boy. Abby didn’t buy it, so Mariah apologized profusely and asked if Abby hated her. Abby was thrilled about having a baby boy. She would’ve been just as happy with a girl – they wanted a healthy baby and this little boy was. She squealed that she and Chance were having a son. She thought Chance and Devon would be excited too.

“And that’s all you have on Chance Chancellor?,” Christine said to the person she was on the phone with. She was at Crimson Lights, and Nina walked in as the call ended. Nina said the last call from Chance broke her. Nina asked if Christine knew something about Chance.

Back at the Chancellor house, Abby was asleep on the couch, unaware that someone was hovering over her. The person couldn’t be seen, only their shadow.

At The Grand Phoenix, Ashland told Victor and Nikki he’d never met anyone like Victoria. Victor noted that Ashland was going through a public divorce. Ashland conceded that the timing wasn’t perfect, but he was the wronged party in the divorce, and he wasn’t going to stop living his life because of Tara’s indiscretion. Nikki didn’t like the optics of Ashland flying off with another woman. Nikki didn’t get a chance to finish her statement, because Victoria told her parents to stop. She said they weren’t teenagers; she chose to fly to NY with Ashland while being fully aware of what people might say. Nikki wouldn’t apologize for being concerned about Victoria being dragged through this divorce, not to mention the possible effects on the grandchildren. Ashland understood the concern, and he’d realized the last thing he wanted to do was fight. A friend told him recently that ending the marriage civily was the best revenge, and he’d decided to heed that advice. Victor assumed Victoria gave him that advice. Ashland said Victoria was fearless about speaking her mind. Nikki didn’t think Ashland should get involved with anyone right now. Ashland pointed out that they wouldn’t be sitting here if Victoria thought this was a rebound. Nikki suspected Ashland was on the rebound, even if her daughter didn’t. Victoria thought they should end this discussion. She was okay with sitting down with her parents, but she if this was to be a non-stop interrogation, it’d be a waste of the evening. Victor agreed, and Victoria smiled.

Nikki wanted to get to know the man Victor bought the company from. She asked if he could go anywhere in the world, where would it be. There was this gelato shop Ashland loved. As he listed the landmarks around it, Victoria smiled and said it was in Florence. Ashland knew that city held meaning to Victoria as well, from her time studying art. Victor acknowledged Victoria had told Ashland quite a bit about her life. Ashland said they’d had some incredible conversations. Nikki said she had a birthday trip in Florence coming up. Victor got her tickets to see Leslie Brooks at the Teatro Bocaccio. Ashland said those tickets were impossible to get. The ice was broken by their shared interests. Ashland was a big fan of Leslie Brooks. Nikki said they’d known Leslie for ages, and she was at their first wedding. Victoria asked Ashland if he played. He did as a child, but he’d quit, which he regretted. Victor said Nikki was a wonderful pianist. Ashland said he’d love to hear her play. Nothing made Victor happier than coming home from a long day’s work and hearing her playing. Nikki told Ashland it was never too late to start playing again. Ashland and Victoria shared a look.

Nikki and Victor went to his office. Nikki thought Ashland was charming, fascinating and smart, which made for exciting conversation. Nikki was still concerned about Ashland tangling Victoria up in his divorce, but she was a grown woman, and they couldn’t forbid her from seeing him. Victor was afraid their girl was in for more than scintillating conversation. He saw something going on between Ashland and Victoria, and he was determined to figure out what it was.

Ashland and Victoria were still in the hotel lounge. He didn’t think her parents’ questions were unreasonable. He said you never stopped worrying about your kids, not that he’d have to contend with that for long. She didn’t like that he made jokes instead of acknowledging what he might be feeling. She wanted him to be honest with her about how he felt. She was sure he was thinking about the things he’d miss out on. He said unfortunately he didn’t have the luxury of lingering on that. She assumed he was considering plans for Harrison’s future. He intended to, but tonight was a pleasant diversion. He was enjoying the time he had left, especially with her. He didn’t want to talk about this in the lounge, so he invited her up to his suite. They got into the elevator.

Victoria and Ashland had wine in his suite. She was glad he was comfortable sharing his diagnosis with her. She hoped he’d be comfortable talking about what happened next. He said she was the only one he was comfortable with at the moment. He said they hadn’t known each other long, and yet he felt this… “Connection,” she suggested, and he said yes. She said sometimes coming face to face with your mortality had a way of putting things into focus. He knew she was talking from experience – he read about the incident where she got stabbed at Victor’s party. She said she made a lot of decisions at that time, and she recovered. She hoped he would too. He thought it’d be foolish not to face the reality of what he was facing. He said nothing in his life was easy, and it was selfish of him to invite her into the chaos. She was there because she wanted to be. He thought the beautiful thing about this was that there was no game playing or secrets. He wanted her to be honest with him and with herself. He said the moment she had enough of this deathbed relationship and was ready to move on, he’d understand, and they’d shake hands and part as friends. She said she didn’t want to do that. She appreciated him offering her a way out, but she was more than capable of letting someone know when she had enough. And if she got to the point where she was ready to move on, she’d tell him, then she’d do so. He thanked her. She thought they should talk about getting his business affairs in order. He asked if it needed to be now. He could think of a few dozen better things to do. She wasn’t giving up on a long relationship with him. She understood he didn’t have hope, so she’d hope for him while she helped him prepare for the worst.

Victoria said Ashland was dying without someone to take his company into the future. His legacy would be swallowed up by another conglomerate and dismantled. He said it was like she was reading his mind. His organization was complicated, and he wasn’t sure how much of his six months he’d be fully functional. She asked if he really wanted to spend the remainder of that time fending off predators. She thought they should get a lot closer. He smiled and said he was starting to enjoy this. She proposed they merge Locke Communications Group and Newman Enterprises. They’d make one powerhouse that would change the entire landscape and send the predators running for their lives. They’d take his company into the future, and his legacy would live on.
