Sally was at The Grand Phoenix. Eric called and said he’d decided there was no harm in doing Summer a favor. He was going to call Angelina Marchetti and recommend Summer for this prestigious job in Italy as soon as Sally gave him the word. Sally saw Summer exiting the elevator. She was grateful, but she asked him to hold off for just a minute so she could set things up just right. He was caught off guard because she’d told him this was all above board. She said it was. She thanked him for putting aside their past differences to do something nice for Summer. The call ended. As Summer approached, Sally faked a call from Marchetti that made it sound like she got turned down for the job. She turned to Summer and said someone in L.A. badmouthed her to Marchetti, and she didn’t get the job. Summer thought that sounded like karmic justice. Sally said Summer’s name came up. Sally accused Summer of saying something about her to the people at Marchetti. Summer said she had nothing to do with it – she would’ve loved nothing more than for Sally to move to Italy and live happily ever after far far away. Summer said she’d better not find out Sally had been badmouthing her to Marchetti. Sally said Summer’s name came up in a good way. Summer was startled Marchetti knew her. Sally spun a story about Marchetti being impressed with Summer’s work at JCV. She grumbled that, once again, Summer was the golden one, and Sally was the problem. Summer crowed about her hard work paying off, then she walked away. Sally smirked, pleased her plan was falling into place.

Ashland was in a talk with Kyle and Tara at the Abbott mansion. He imagined their lawyers looked over the custody agreement, and he asked if they had questions. According to Tara, her lawyer said there weren’t any loopholes. She was curious what made him reverse his position on Kyle being part of Harrison’s life. Ashland asked if Kyle noticed Tara asked too many questions for her own good. Tara asked if Victoria had something to do with Ashland’s change of heart. “See what I mean? Way too many questions,” Ashland stated. He felt she had no right to ask him about his personal life after the way she handled hers. She asked why he was avoiding the question. He mentioned that he’d changed his will. Tara assumed she’d been cut out of the will, but she asked if Harrison was too. Ashland felt he’d be will within his rights to disinherit Harrison, since he wasn’t his flesh and blood. She asked if he’d really punish Harrison to hurt her. Kyle said Harrison would never want for anything, because he was an Abbott and they took care of their own. Ashland had tried to find similarities between Harrison and Kyle, and he didn’t see any. When Ashland looked at Harrison, he saw himself, and maybe it was love, maybe it was ego, and maybe it was the imprint he’d already made on Harrison’s life. Tara thanked Kyle for promising to support Harrison. He told her that she never had to worry about their son’s future, because he’d have a full happy life, with or without the Locke fortune. Tara told Ashland that his nasty games couldn’t hurt them now. She said they’d all raise Harrison, but unlike Ashland, she and Kyle would never use him as a weapon. “Go ahead. Make plans, maybe if you’re lucky you’ll get more than six months to live them out,” he replied.

Ashland shared his diagnosis of small cell carcinoma. Kyle asked Tara if she believed it. Ashland said he didn’t have the time or taste for mind games anymore. Kyle wasn’t sure what to say. Alarmed, Tara rapidly asked questions – was he sure? Was there treatment? Had he gotten a second opinion? Ashland refused to do this with Tara. Kyle said she was trying to help. Ashland said how he handled this was his business, and he wanted Tara to focus on making sure Harrison had a stable life. She brought up treatment again, and he said he was going to focus on making sure every aspect of the custody agreement was understood by everyone. He said Harrison was in the will, but Tara wasn’t, so she could forget about trying to kill him off for his money before the divorce was finalized. Tara was upset that Ashland would joke about this. She said as horrible as things had gotten, they shared a life together, and she’d loved him. She still cared about him, and if he wouldn’t take his diagnosis seriously, she would. He countered that if she cared, she wouldn’t have cheated. She thought he was lashing out because he was in pain. He didn’t need pity. He wanted them to understand why he made the custody agreement and why he came back to town. He wanted to spend his remaining days with his son. He was dismayed to find himself in the situation where he had to ask something of Tara and Kyle.

Kyle asked what Ashland needed. Ashland didn’t want them to share this information with anyone. He wanted to be the one to tell Harrison in his own way and in his own time. They agreed. He said he’d be back to see Harrison at the agreed upon time. Tara expressed sympathy, and Ashland said he didn’t need or want her pity. He left. Kyle wondered if this was a ploy. Tara didn’t think Ashland had anything to gain by lying about something so horrible. She said Ashland always seemed so strong, and now this. He asked if she still wanted to go through with the divorce or if she wanted to reconcile so she could be there for Ashland in the end. She couldn’t go back to him. She was sure Ashland didn’t want her back, because he was far too proud. She saw the contempt in Ashland’s eyes earlier, and she thought he probably took great pleasure in telling her about his diagnosis, because it’d make her feel more guilty. As sad as the news was, she had to focus on the future – her poor baby would be devastated. Summer walked in and heard Kyle promise to do whatever it took to help her and Harrison through this.

Summer asked what was going on. Tara covered and said Kyle was promising to help her transition to Genoa City. Summer asked Kyle if that was it, noting that he’d already been doing that for awhile. He backed up Tara’s story. Sally texted Tara asking to meet. Tara told Kyle and Summer that she had to go get something for Harrison. After she left, Summer asked Kyle what was really going on, reminding him that they said no more secrets. He said of course he’d tell her, but it had to stay confidential. He told her Ashland was dying. Summer felt bad for Harrison, and she asked what this meant for him and Tara.

At Crimson Lights, Billy ran into Victoria and fished for details about her trip to NY. He commented that she must’ve been too busy to return his call. She didn’t know he’d expected a response. He’d been curious because she didn’t mention she wasn’t traveling alone. She asked why her trip with Ashland bothered him so much. It didn’t bother him, but he was worried she was spending so much time with Ashland. He didn’t think she realized how messy this divorce was about to get. She clarified that Ashland had been open and honest, and what she knew wasn’t based on innuendo and gossip, like what Billy thought he knew. He said that wasn’t going to protect their kids from the potential fallout. She said she’d never expose the kids to anything negative due to Ashland’s divorce. She didn’t think he actually thought the kids would be affected. She thought he was upset she was finally moving on. He said that would make him hypocritical. She thought that he liked it when she was pining over him, because it was an ego boost. He said he always wanted her to be happy and believed she deserved more than kids and work. Her voice dripped with sarcasm, as she asked how much time he’d deem appropriate for her to spend with Ashland. He told her she’d made her point, but he was still concerned for the kids. She said he didn’t have to be because she was also just as concerned for them.

Victoria asked how the sleepover went. Billy said it was great. He said Johnny asked if he and Lily were married. He told the kids the truth, as always – that they weren’t married, but they were in love. She thought that was a serious statement, especially for children. He felt they deserved the truth, especially after he and Victoria’s last go round and non-commitment ceremony. He could understand why it could be a little confusing, not that he regretted any of it. She didn’t either. He was trying to be transparent in life, so he admitted he was concerned about how involved she was getting with Ashland, and it wasn’t just about the kids. He didn’t want her to get hurt. Victoria appreciated Billy’s concern. He asked if she’d take his advice. She said it wasn’t like she’d never been hurt several times, by a man she loved, married more than once and with whom she co-parented two beautiful children. She didn’t put all the blame on him. She knew she caused her fair share of hurt. She told him not to worry about her heart being decimated by a fascinating, successful man she barely knew. “I’ve survived much worse,” she said, then she left.

Victoria went to work, and she was about to research small cell carcinoma on AskMDNow when Nikki walked in. Victoria closed the laptop, and Nikki asked about NY. Victoria was hesitant to say anything until Nikki promised not to judge. Nikki promised, and Victoria said it didn’t get too serious, they had cocktails, fabulous meals and intriguing conversations. Nikki thought Victoria gave Ashland a diversion from his divorce. Victoria didn’t see anything wrong with that. She said Ashland was nice. Nikki supposed she’d have to take Victoria’s word for it. Nikki informed Victoria that Victor was aware of the trip to NY, and he seemed to be curious about it. Victoria assumed a lecture was coming, but Nikki said Victor didn’t seem opposed. Victoria mused about her parents thinking of Ashland as a romantic prospect for her. She had a connection with Ashland, but they were just getting to know each other. Nikki just thought it was refreshing that Victor didn’t disparage someone interested in his daughter. Victoria thought Victor would like to see her with anyone smart, successful and not named Billy Abbott. Nikki thought the trip did Victoria good, since she seemed rested and happy. Nikki decided to leave before she was tempted to ask intrusive questions. After Nikki left, Victoria was about to resume her internet search, but Ashland called with a lunch invitation, which she accepted.

At Society, Ashland told Victoria how he’d blurted out the truth about his illness without meaning to. His emotions had gotten the better of him when he saw Tara and Kyle and envisioned them raising…his son. He asked why the words “my son” got stuck in his throat. She assured him that Harrison was his son, and he’d never known any other father until now. It was hard for him to think about not being there to guide Harrison into manhood or to train him to take over the business. She said there was so much to consider and plan for. He joked about dying, and she didn’t understand how he could do that. He suggested it was a defense mechanism. They went back to her office, and she asked his his diagnosis would affect Locke Communications Group. He’d been so focused on Harrison that he hadn’t given it much thought, but he had to consider it soon. She asked if he had a right hand. He had groomed some people, but no one that he’d be able to trust with his company after he was gone. She thought he should consider treatments. She did a little research and found out about some experimental possibilities. He’d also done some research, and the side effects of those treatments were too severe. He asked if they could make their time together an illness-free zone, and she said okay. He asked what she wanted to talk about. She didn’t want to talk. She wanted him to kiss her.

Lily was delighted when she saw two of her favorite people at Society – Amanda and Devon. She asked about Moses, and Devon said he was doing his own thing and being a teen. Lily asked Amanda about the case, and Amanda said she was officially off it. Lily was surprised because she recalled it had been so important to Amanda’s mom. Amanda noted that she didn’t have to keep this secret now that she wasn’t Sutton’s lawyer anymore. Lily asked what secret.

Lily knew Amanda’s mom referred her for the case, but she didn’t realize Amanda’s family was so closely tied to it. Amanda asked forgiveness for not admitting that before. She’d wanted to win the case on her own merits and not because she’d garnered sympathy as the child of the murder victim. Lily understood. She asked why Amanda was off the case. Amanda thought her family was keeping something from her. She didn’t accuse her grandfather of anything, but things didn’t work out how she hoped. Lily said the job at ChancComm was waiting for Amanda. Amanda loved the job, but she learned a lot about herself during the case, and she liked being a defense attorney. She wasn’t sure she wanted to go back to ChancComm. She needed to figure out if this was the road for her. Devon gave his support. Amanda knew she needed to focus on getting answers about her past and finding out what happened to her father.

Lily went to work and talked with Billy about Amanda. She felt bad Amanda didn’t get the joyous reunion with her family that she’d hoped for. He decided to call and offer their support to Amanda later. He’d miss having Amanda at work to save him from himself. Lily said he had her for that, but she’d miss Amanda too. She said that Amanda could come back. Billy said Amanda was a great defense attorney, she was there for him when he was falsely accused. He supported her if she wanted to go down that path. She was a good friend, and he wanted her to be happy.

Billy mentioned he did some digging around Ashland and Tara’s divorce, but no one around the couple was willing to talk. Lily thought they agreed not to do that story, for Kyle’s sake. She asked if he already needed saving from himself. He said he agreed not to break the story, but part of it had already broken – the divorce was already in the headlines, and it wouldn’t be long before the rest came out, especially with Kyle seeking partial custody of the boy. Lily said they had to tread cautiously because of Kyle. He was sure the news about Tara staying at the Abbott house would come out, if it hadn’t already. She conceded the point. He didn’t want to turn it into an Adam-style exposé, but if they didn’t cover this would go against their journalistic practices and give the competitors the edge. She thought it was more like the Adam exposé than he was willing to admit except this time they’d be going after a guy who turned down their bid and who was spending time with Victoria. She could tell Victoria and Locke still bugged him. He wasn’t thrilled, but it was about his kids – he didn’t want them getting caught up in the mess, but he also wouldn’t make it a bigger mess. He thought he could stay objective, despite his personal connection to the story. He said he’d talk to Kyle and show him the story, and if Kyle didn’t sign off, they’d pull the story. She was okay with handling it that way.

Imani rushed into the hotel and told Amanda that Sutton was furious at her for leaving him high and dry and his legal team scrambling. He felt she betrayed him, according to Imani. Amanda thought that was odd, since Naya said Sutton was calm. Imani asked if Amanda was accusing her of lying. Amanda just thought Sutton ran hot and cold. Imani said he did, and Amanda didn’t know how to handle that the way the rest of the family did. Amanda thought they just acquiesced to him. Imani said she was taught to respect her elders. Amanda said the one advantage of how she was raised was she learned to only respect the people who earned it. Imani guessed it was easier for Amanda to walk away than work effectively with her client. Amanda was sure Sutton would land on his feet, but Imani said his defense was in shambles. Amanda suggested Sutton should have thought of that before firing her. Imani said Amanda knew Sutton didn’t mean that. Amanda wasn’t sure about anything when it came to Sutton, except that he was stubborn and controlling. “Yes, Grandfather is stubborn and controlling, but the rest of the family has learned how to understand that and we meet him where he is,” Imani explained. Amanda didn’t feel the need to cater to someone who wanted to leave her discarded and forgotten. Imani asked if Amanda was going to pursue this on her. Amanda felt compelled to. Imani was sure Sutton wouldn’t be happy. “Well, that’s too damn bad. Because I was born into this world with nothing. My only birthright is the truth, so nothing will stop me from getting it,” Amanda snapped.

“Wow, I’m almost afraid of you. Sounds like you mean business,” an impressed Imani said. Amanda was glad Imani understood her. She asked if Imani was leaving. Imani was going to stick around for awhile. Amanda said she wasn’t going to change her mind and go crawling back to Sutton. Imani knew, and that’s was one of the reasons she’d genuinely grown to like Amanda. She was impressed with how Amanda stood up to anyone who got in her way. Amanda said they had that in common. Imani wanted to see what other traits they shared. She wasn’t hating the idea of having a sister anymore. Amanda gestured toward the chair at the bar, and she and Imani sat down.

Imani knew her upbringing didn’t compare to Amanda’s, but her childhood wasn’t sweetness and light either. Amanda said Imani was born into the lap of luxury with parents and a grandfather who spoiled her rotten. Imani agreed she’d been spoiled, but growing up the only child in a deeply political family was lonely. Each potential friend had to be vetted. She couldn’t even have play dates until the parents’ political affiliations were checked out. So it was easier not to have friends. Amanda said moving from foster family to foster family wasn’t conducive to making friends either. Imani felt isolated her entire life. As an adult, her whole world revolved around advising Sutton’s campaigns. They couldn’t risk any spies getting into their circle of trust. Amanda tried to stifle a chuckle. She wished she could say her heart broke for Imani, but she couldn’t. “I mean really? Spies,” Amanda asked, as the siblings laughed. Imani wanted to change that. She really wanted to get to know Amanda, and despite what Sutton thought, she offered to help Amanda find the truth she was searching for. Amanda couldn’t help but wonder if Imani was trying to keep tabs on her. Imani was hurt and offended, because she’d just opened up to Amanda. She conceded she’d been tough on Amanda at first, but that was because she was taught to be apprehensive of everyone. She’d put that behind her, and she was saddened that Amanda couldn’t see a sincere gesture.

The upset Imani walked into the lounge. Amanda stood and looked at Imani, but when Imani turned to face Amanda, the latter went and got on the elevator. Devon showed up and Imani charged up to him. “For the life of me, I don’t know what you see in that stubborn rude girlfriend of yours. And from what I heard, Amanda’s twin was just like her,” she snapped. Taken aback, Devon told Imani she didn’t know him well enough to talk to him that way, and he didn’t think she should badmouth Amanda, or his wife, whom she never met. Imani complained that Amanda refused to acknowledge their connection. “I mean, really. What family does she have left?,” Imani said, before striding out the door.

Upstairs, Amanda ran into Naya. Amanda said that if Naya was there to try and get her back on the case, she wasted a trip. Naya was here to warn Amanda that she didn’t want Sutton Ames for an enemy. “You can’t just walk away from this. For your own well-being, you need to stick to this case,” Naya stated. Amanda scoffed and asked if that was a threat.
