Lauren and Sally discussed business at Society. Afterward, Sally asked about the meeting with Tara. Lauren said Tara wasn’t ready to make a career move. Sally offered to make her own sales pitch to Tara if Lauren wanted. She thought she and Tara had a few things in common – two ambitious women in need of a fresh start. Lauren asked how Sally’s fresh start was going. Sally thought it was good. While Lauren thought Sally was doing amazing work, but she’d noticed Sally was a bit subdued. Lauren thought it might be about Jack. Sally was disappointed about that, but she had to let it go, and she didn’t let it affect her work. Lauren said Sally had been fantastic, professional and mature, but she asked if Sally was happy. She was concerned Sally was pushing herself too hard. Sally said that she was uncomfortable because of Phyllis – it was a little uncomfortable knowing someone that influential wanted her to fail. Lauren said Phyllis was opinionated and she was concerned about friction between Sally and Summer, but she never intended to trash Sally’s career. Lauren said Phyllis proposed that Sally promote Sally to a prestigious position at the L.A. store. Lauren didn’t do it because she wanted Sally to stay. Lauren thought Phyllis was trying to set up a win-win situation. Sally admitted she might be pushing herself too hard, and she asked if she could leave early today. Lauren quickly agreed and said to have fun.

Jack ran into Summer at Crimson Lights. She asked about his lunch with Harrison and Kyle, and he said it was amazing. He was there to buy cinnamon rolls for Harrison’s breakfast tomorrow. He told her she could’ve stayed at the Abbott house for lunch. Summer was okay with not joining them. She figured that Tara was probably right when she said it’d be good opportunity for the Abbott men to bond. It also gave Summer time to do some wedding planning. She was in a quandary over cake choices. He thought that she should get Kyle’s input, and he suggested she accompany him back to the Abbott house. She agreed. He went to place his order, and she sighed deeply.

At the Abbott house, Tara entered the living room as Kyle finished a call about a legal issue. She informed him that her lawyers received Ashland’s custody offer, and so far it looked good. Kyle still wondered what caused Ashland’s 180. Tara relayed Jack’s theory that it had something to do with all the time Ashland had been spending with Victoria – apparently he took her to NY. Tara said that if Ashland was moving on with someone new, maybe he was losing interest in punishing her. Kyle was sure that stung. It did, but Tara acknowledged Ashland was free to do what he wanted.

Jack came home. Tara said she and Kyle were talking about ways for her to put down roots in Genoa City. Kyle was glad that Lauren took him up on the suggestion to meet with Tara. Earlier, she’d driven around looking at various neighborhoods so she and Harrison could have a place of their own. Summer entered as Jack told Tara she and Harrison could stay as long as they needed. He agreed with Kyle that a deal with Lauren could be great for her shoe line. Jack stepped out, and Summer asked about custody. Kyle said that things were looking good, and Tara was looking at starting a new life. Summer wanted to talk to Kyle about wedding plans. Tara thought that a fun conversation like that was just what Kyle needed right now. She suggested he could take Harrison to the park after his nap. He loved the idea. Summer asked if she could go, and Kyle said absolutely. Jack walked back in on a Jabot call. He needed some data from Kyle, who realized he accidentally left it at the hotel. Jack and Kyle arranged to move their meeting to The Grand Phoenix. Tara asked Summer to stay so they could get better acquainted, since they were going to be a big part of each others’ lives. Summer agreed.

Later, Tara brought in a tray of Mrs. Martinez’s pumpkin bread and tea. Summer declined, and she already ate. Tara hadn’t – she’d decided not to eat lunch with the boys, because she wanted to give them some time together. Summer thought that was good idea, since Harrison would be meeting a lot of new people. Tara said they were all adjusting, including Summer – she’d been planning a wedding, then a little boy plopped into her life. Summer said Harrison was adorable, and wedding planning was coming along. Tara was glad that Kyle had taken to Harrison, but she could understand how that might be a problem for Summer. Summer clarified that it wasn’t a problem – she knew how important it was for Kyle to be a good dad. Tara admired how supportive Summer was and how she’d figured out how to keep the changes from coming between her and Kyle. Summer said it was sweet for Tara to be concerned, but she didn’t need to be because Summer and her fiance had survived way more challenging situations than this.

At the Grand Phoenix Kyle went upstairs to get the spreadsheet while Jack milled around by the bar. Sally came downstairs, while on the phone with her sister. She thought it was sweet for Coco to offer to drive in so they could meet in L.A. but Sally would only be there a short time. The call ended. Jack asked Sally if she was moving to L.A. He thought she’d be better suited to the pace out there. She liked the pace here just fine, so she was staying, and she loved Genoa City, even if it didn’t love her back yet. She accepted that she and Jack weren’t going to happen. Sally had something to prove after all the mistakes she made over the past few months, which is why she was staying.

Kyle went back to the Abbott house, and Tara said Harrison was awake. Summer had gone back to the office, but according to Tara, she was going to meet Kyle at the park. Tara said that her girl talk with Summer went well. She thought Summer understood Harrison was Tara and Kyle’s top priority. Kyle said Summer was the best. Harrison ran in and was happy to see Kyle.

At the park, Kyle and Harrison met another father and son, Danny and K.J. They were in town visiting relatives. The little boys became fast friends and ran off to play. Danny said there was nothing better than seeing your son have fun. Jack showed up after Danny had gone. He’d handled the business issue. Kyle felt bad he didn’t do it himself. Jack said there would always be work, but there wouldn’t always be a sweet three year old who wanted to play in the park. Jack thought Kyle was precisely where he needed to be. Kyle had his lawyers check and see if Ashland was going to accuse Tara of negligence, but since Ashland dropped the custody fight, Kyle told the firm to step down. Jack hoped Ashland’s change of heart was genuine. They stopped to watch Harrison play and they were proud of how he was excelling at tag, running circles around the other kids. Kyle said Harrison took after his grandfather, the tennis player. Jack noticed Harrison was lively at the park and shy at home. Kyle assumed that was just because he wasn’t comfortable at the house yet. Jack thought Kyle was a natural father. Kyle planned to emulate Jack’s parenting style as much as he could. Kyle said he and Jack didn’t have a lot of time together when he was growing up, but they made the time they did have count. He wasn’t sure he could do this if he didn't have Jack’s example to guide him. Jack said Kyle was doing fine.

After Jack left, Summer arrived, and Kyle told her how he made a fool of himself on the monkey bars to entertain his son. Shortly after Summer’s arrival, Tara showed up. She noticed the wind was picking up, so she decided to bring Harrison his jacket. Kyle and Tara started talking about Harrison’s ease at making friends. Summer said he was a charmer, like all the Abbott men. Tara thought she’d have to follow their son’s lead and make the most of their new life here. Kyle offered to help. Tara smiled at Kyle, then she looked at Summer, who stared back at her.

In L.A., Eric Forrester wasn’t happy when Sally showed up uninvited. She said he didn’t return her calls. He told her she was the last person anyone wanted to see. She only needed ten minutes, then she’d go back to Genoa City. He was willing to hear her out because she’d said this was about Summer, and he was friends with her family. He said this had better not be a scheme, though. Sally said she and Summer were friends, and she wanted to see Summer reach her full potential. Sally stated that Summer had gone as far as she could at JCV. Sally started to list Summer’s qualifications, but Eric was already well aware since she’d made that deal with Spencer Publications. Eric said that as Victor’s granddaughter, why didn’t Summer just go to Newman Enterprises. Sally said Newman was out of the cosmetics division. She claimed that Summer wanted that job at Marchetti, but she couldn’t pursue it herself because she hadn’t been at JCV that long, but if Marchetti would pursue her, it’d be different. Sally wondered if he could pull some strings, but leave Sally’s name out of it. He asked why she didn’t go after the job in Italy. She said she couldn’t do that while she was a junior marketing exec. She’d already left L.A. with her tail between her legs, and she didn’t want to do that again. Eric couldn’t in good conscience do this without checking with Victor. She protested that Victor would tell Summer, and that would ruin the surprise. He wondered what was in it for Sally. She admitted that Summer’s current position was her dream job, but if Summer got the job in Milan, it’d be a win/win. She said she’d have the chance to turn her life around, while staying away from the Spencers and Forresters. He agreed to give it some thought and get back to her. She thanked him and left.

Ashland and Victoria were in her hotel suite in NY. She’d just had a successful meeting with a startup, and she asked if he’d like to join her for wine. She noticed that he seemed upset, but he dodged questions about what happened and poured two glasses of wine. She talked about the year she spent in Italy. She did one gallery show, and it was enough for her. In her mind, painting was about the joy of creating art, and once the business aspect became a part of it, everything changed. Her time in Italy was a gift, and sometimes she wondered what would’ve happened if she stayed in Europe. He said she did come home and rose to become CEO of a major conglomerate. He thought her perspective on the world was broader than most of her counterparts. She asked if he had a hidden artist inside and if he’d ever thought about leaving business for a garret in Paris. She smiled and said it wasn’t too late. He turned somber, which concerned her. He revealed that his meeting this afternoon wasn’t really a meeting, it was a doctor’s appointment with a specialist, and it turned out it was too late for a lot of things.

When Ashland was x-rayed for the pacemaker, the doctors saw something. It was now confirmed to be small cell lung carcinoma. It was advanced. He had six months to live. Victoria was stunned and sympathetic. He said he’d lost his wife, son and health. She asked if there was any hope. There were some treatments that had about a 10% success rate. They were grueling, and he didn’t want to prolong his life if he was going to be miserable. She said it’d give him more time with the people he loved. He commented on what a frightening thing that would be too put a little boy through – seeing his father frail and in pain. “No. Absolutely not,” he said.

Ashland learned about this yesterday over the phone, and that’s why he flew back. Victoria never would’ve known. He didn’t want to tell her, and he didn’t think she’d believe him, given the games he played during business negotiations. She was sure he’d never invent something like that. He was glad she had a positive view of him, given that they hadn’t known each other that long. He was sorry for selfishly dumping this on her. She didn’t see it that way. She was surprised he wanted her here, since, as he just said, they were practically strangers. To his amazement, he felt like he’d always known her. She if his illness changed things with Tara. He said of course, that was why he didn’t go after full custody. Victoria suggested that Ashland and Tara could reconcile and she could oversee his care. He would’ve preferred to go to his grave knowing his wife loved him and that his son was his son, but it was too late for that. He didn’t blame Tara for everything that happened. He admitted Victoria was right – he neglected Tara. He’d been so focused on business, and he couldn’t dial it back. He knew Victoria understood. She did, and she agreed that they were a lot alike. He thought Harrison would miss him for awhile, but in time, the memories would fade, and he’d grow up thinking of Kyle as his dad. Ashland said it could be worse – Kyle seemed intelligent and sincere, albeit gullible. He asked if her niece would make a good stepmother. Victoria had never really thought about Summer as a mother, but she liked kids and she was close to her younger brother and sister. She said the Abbotts and Newmans were a tight-knit group, and Summer and Kyle would have a lot of support. “My little Harrison, growing up the great grandson of John Abbott and Victor Newman. It’s a hell of a legacy. It may sound a bit strange but that brings me some peace,” he said.

Later, Ashland finished a business call. He asked Victoria’s forgiveness for conducting business in her hotel suite at such an hour. She didn’t mind. She asked if he was afraid. He never thought he would be before – he’d jumped out of planes, climbed Kilimanjaro, but those were things he chose. He wouldn’t choose this. She thought he should make every moment count, and she asked what he wanted to do with this moment.

Nina entered the Chancellor living room marveling at the beautiful weather, but Abby was on edge. She’d just read a news story about a sting operation gone wrong in Vegas. Six people, including a federal agent, were rushed to the hospital, and she was scared it was Chance. Nina asked why Abby thought Chance would be involved in this – they didn’t even know he was in Las Vegas. Abby pointed out that he’d been in Vegas on a case before. Nina didn’t think it’d make sense for the feds to send Chance back to Vegas, since his cover there had been blown int the article on Adam. Abby decided to call Christine to find out where Chance was, but Nina said even if Cricket had that information, she’d made it clear it’d be too risky to share it with them. Abby didn’t know how much longer she could live in constant fear. Nina understood, but she said they had no choice but to tough it out together.

Abby conceded that Nina was right - they didn’t know where Chance was. She said he could be undercover on the other side of the world, not that this would be reassuring. Nina asked Abby to picture a place that would be reassuring. Abby imagined Chance on a beach somewhere, going undercover as a beach bum and coming back with a gorgeous tan. She said she knew he was in law enforcement when she married him. She asked what Nina did to take her mind off the fear. Nina was hesitant to say, because she didn’t want Chance to hear about it. Abby promised to take it to the grave, but she really needed to know how Nina coped, because she was losing her mind.

Nina’s secret hobby was cross stitch. She showed off one she’d made for the baby’s nursery. Abby had never touched a needle and thread, and she wasn’t sure she could do it. Nina was happy to teach her. Nina was wondering if the baby was a boy or girl. Abby said that if Mariah found out at the ultrasound, she didn’t say anything. Abby pricked her finger and she also messed up her cross stitch. Nina said Abby would have to take it out and do it again. Abby didn’t see how this was relaxing. She got a call from an unknown number, and she was fearful it was bad news, but she answered it. It was Chance, and she was relieved. She told him they had a bad connection. Abby said to Nina that it sounded like Chance was shouting. The line went dead.
