At Society, Ashland toasted to Victoria for taking time out of her busy schedule to join him for dinner. She hoped he wasn’t accusing her of being a workaholic. He said it took one to know one. He got a business call, which he silenced, because he felt she deserved his full attention. She offered to listen if he wanted to open up about his divorce. Abby briefly checked in on the pair before heading to see Summer at the bar. Ashland told Victoria that the men in his position weren’t supposed to have problems, but when he was cut, he bled like everyone else. She told him he was human. He used to think he and Tara were solid, and he wouldn’t have predicted they’d get a divorce. Victoria understood. She used to think she and her ex husband could withstand anything, and she’d been livid when she realized this wasn’t the case – the deceit, the wasted time and effort. She eventually learned that allowing the pain to affect her decisions only made matters worse. He admitted he couldn’t easily let go of anger when he felt wronged. She’d found that sometimes, civility was the best revenge. He decided to take that under advisement. All he could think about was how things went so wrong. He gave Tara the perfect life, and she repaid him by cheating. Victoria asked how they met. They first crossed paths at an auction for antique furniture where Tara used to work. She was poised, professional and bright. He bid more than he planned just so he could meet her. He said Tara wasn’t the first woman to use her job to land a wealthy husband, but at the time, he thought she was different. Victoria said that the current marriage problems didn’t mean Tara was a gold digger. Ashland showed Tara the world as he romanced her. He now despised all the antique furniture littering his penthouse, because it reminded him of her betrayal. It’d make him feel better to sell the antiques for a mint. In Victoria’s experience, affairs didn’t happen in a vacuum. She was sure he was a good husband when he was around, but she knew he reveled in his business, and he was famous for working 24/7. She asked if it was possible that Tara felt neglected and found someone to make her feel appreciated. He stated that Tara had a great life and loved the perks.

Victoria asked Ashland if he was sure that the romance didn’t level off, as it sometimes did after the “I do’s” His first instinct was to say she was horribly mistaken, but that was usually how he reacted when someone told him he was in the wrong. He said she had a way of pulling the truth out of him. He wouldn’t take all the blame though, because Tara didn’t just have an affair. He wouldn’t elaborate, but he said Tara was no saint. Ashland apologized for monopolizing the evening. Victoria didn’t accept apology, because she’d invited him to unburden himself, and she hoped it helped. He wanted to to get to know her – how was work, what was it like being Victor’s daughter, which superpower would she choose? She wanted to be able to freeze time. She brought up her kids, her favorite subject. Johnny and Katie constantly surprised her – Katie joined the hockey team, and Johnny was turning into a comedian. Victoria’s stories didn’t get the reception she expected, and she said she thought Ashland would like them since he was a father too. “I thought I was,” he replied. She didn’t understand. He adored Harrison and the boy brought him so much joy, but he wasn’t the biological father. She asked who was, and when he didn’t say anything, she realized it was Kyle.

Ashland never loved anyone or anything as much as he loved Harrison. He remembered cheering the baby on as he took his first steps. Nothing would ever mean as much to Ashland as that moment. He asked how Tara could trick him into caring for a child who wasn’t his. He admitted he could be a better father – his career and having to travel got in the way. He wasn’t giving up on Harrison, though. He was going to run his own DNA test just to be sure, but the results wouldn’t change a thing. He knew some people would say he should walk away and let the biological parents raise the boy, but they’d be dead wrong. He’d invested too much time, love and energy into being a father to that child. The idea of sharing custody with the man his wife cheated with was almost unbearable. Victoria said Ashland was the father in all the ways that counted. “Yes, but DNA -” Ashland started saying. Victoria interjected that she didn’t share DNA with her son – he was Billy’s biological child, but she was his mother, and that would never change. She was the one who was there for Johnny when he needed her, and she added that Harrison needed Ashland. He nodded.

Summer said that Abby’s invitation to meet here should’ve come with a warning. She never expected to see Ashland and Victoria together. Abby assumed Summer didn’t have a problem with her aunt Victoria, so she theorized the problem must be about Ashland. Summer didn’t want to discuss it. Abby invited Summer here because she’d realized that the “friend” Summer talked about earlier who’s boyfriend found out he had a child was actually Summer. Abby didn’t judge, she just wanted to help. Summer fought back tears. She said she was only trying to protect Kyle when she said it was a friend. Abby figured it out when she thought about Tara bringing her child to the engagement party. Summer said Kyle and Tara had a fling, and now Abby had a little cousin named Harrison Locke. It had been such a nightmare, Summer confided. Of all people, Ashland was the scorned husband, and Kyle was having a really hard time. Abby noted that she’d called to check on Summer. Summer admitted that she didn’t have a handle on this.

Summer said she’d talked to Jack and Sharon, and their advice made her feel better for awhile, but when she was all alone, the insecurities came back. It wasn’t because of Kyle, it was because of everything else, including Tara who brought all this drama and uncertainty into their lives. Abby was glad Summer didn’t doubt Kyle’s feelings. Abby conceded that he was messed up after he and Summer broke up before, but he was different now, and that was because of Summer. Abby said maybe Tara was drawn to Kyle, but that didn’t mean he reciprocated the feelings. Summer asked what she should do. Abby said to keep an eye on Tara, trust Kyle and take charge of the situation. Summer said everyone else told her to slow down. Abby suggested that the advice to slow down only made Summer feel better temporarily because she knew in her gut that it was the wrong choice. Summer admitted that made a lot of sense. “Maybe no one knows you better than a former rival,” Abby said, with a smile. Abby told Summer to be bold and make sure Kyle knew they were a team. Summer asked how, and Abby said to start planning the wedding. Abby said Tara showing up with Kyle’s son and on the verge of being single shouldn’t scare Summer off – it should motivate her.

Abby went home and filmed a video for Chance. She talked about starting She missed him and said she loved him as much today as she did the day he proposed. Thinking about all that helped her give a friend some advice not to shy away from love. She said you never knew when love was coming or when you could lose it.

Kyle went to the Abbott house to talk to Tara. He asked if she’d heard from Locke. She hadn’t. She thought it was cruel of Ashland to say that she could only be part of her son’s life as long as Kyle wasn’t involved. She was trying not to let Harrison see how upset she was. Kyle assured Tara that she wasn’t alone. He wasn’t going to let Ashland bully her. He spoke with his lawyer, they said just because Ashland wanted full custody, it didn’t mean he’d get it. Kyle reiterated what Jack said earlier – the Abbotts would fight Ashland. Tara spoke with her lawyer too, and they advised her to give in to Ashland’s demands. She apologized. He protested that Harrison was his child too, and she’d asked him to commit, and he did. He asked what if Ashland took Harrison from both of them. She revealed that she signed a prenup when she got married, and it was ironclad. In case of a divorce, she got everything she walked into the marriage with. He asked what she brought into the marriage. “A pretty smile and good taste,” she replied. She said if she didn’t cut him out of Harrison’s life, they both knew what would happen.

Tara hadn’t decided what to do yet, but the prospect of losing her son along with everything else… Kyle countered that she’d have her shoe line. Her business was drowning in debt because fashion was a volatile industry. He offered to try and find her a job at JCV or Fenmore’s. She clarified that she wasn’t asking him to call in favors. He said he was offering because they’d be lucky to have her talent. He thought any judge would see she was a good mother. She knew Ashland would pull out the big guns, and he might have the ammunition to do it.

Tara was embarrassed to say this, but she thought Kyle needed to know. Harrison fell and cut his chin one day while being watched by the previous nanny. Tara was out with friends at the time. Tara raced to the ER when she found out. Harrison was fine, but Ashland went ballistic and said Tara should’ve been home with their son. He called her negligent. Whenever Ashland was angry, he threw it in her face. Kyle didn’t think any judge would call that negligence. He’d seen for himself that she was a good mother. He asked if there was anything else Ashland could use against her, and she said no. Tara decided she should go tuck Harrison in before Ashland found a way to say she was ignoring her son. He asked if he could read Harrison a story. He wasn’t sure she’d agree after he said about not knowing what to do about Ashland’s ultimatum. She said Ashland might control big chunks of her life, but he wasn’t here right now. She couldn’t imagine anything better than him reading their son to sleep. He went upstairs.

Summer went home and ordered strawberries, red velvet cupcakes and champagne from room service. She texted Kyle to come home because it’d be worth his while.

Meanwhile, Kyle was in one of the Abbott bedrooms. He tucked Harrison into a huge bed then he saw Summer’s text. He explained he was in the middle of bedtime and he wanted her to meet Harrison. He promised to come home as soon as he could. She replied that she’d be waiting. Kyle read Harrison a book about fathers and sons. Tara walked in and stood in the doorway smiling. “Daddy!,” Harrison said, which made Kyle smile. Harrison wanted to hear the book again, so Kyle did.

Summer looked through her lingerie drawer. Later, Kyle came home. She pulled him into a kiss, and she told him she wanted to fast track the wedding and said nothing would make her happier than knowing he felt the same way. He kissed her deeply and asked if that made it clear enough. Later, Summer was alone and she read a text to Kyle from Tara. Tara couldn’t tell Kyle how much it meant to Harrison to have his Daddy read him a bedtime story. And she couldn’t tell him how much his support meant to her.

At the condo, Lily showed Billy her outfit. She said she was running late because he convinced her to join him in the shower a half hour before their company arrived. She reminded him that this was a social occasion, so there would be no pumping Jack for information on Ashland. He heard Tara and Harrison moved into the Abbott house a few days ago. Lily thought that was odd, but it didn’t matter – it was rude to invite Jack over and grill him. Jack arrived with a gift. Billy mentioned he heard that Ashland and Locke set off fireworks at Society today. Lily changed the subject and took Jack on a tour.

After the tour, Billy quickly made Ashland the topic of conversation again. He was sure Jack had some insight into the divorce. Jack thought that Ashland deserved privacy. He noted that everyone in the room had been through the breakup of a marriage and the resulting rumors and innuendo. Lily told Jack to have a seat and she asked Billy to help her in the kitchen. In the kitchen, she was testy about what he was doing. He could tell Jack was hiding something, and he vowed to get the truth.

Jack talked about Abby’s baby. He didn’t correct Lily when she innocently said that Abby’s child would be the first in a new generation of Abbotts. Yet again, Billy segued to Ashland. He laid out what he knew – Jack and Ashland got into it at Society today, Tara was staying in the Abbott home. Lily apologized to Jack. Jack refused to be Billy’s source, and he said ChancComm would have to go somewhere else for content. Billy didn’t understand why Jack was protecting Ashland’s privacy after what he did to Jabot. The brothers went back and forth with Jack wanting Billy to stop digging into it and Billy refusing. Billy vowed to figure out what was going on with Ashland so Jack could use it as retaliation, since he was clearly too polite to go after him. He said he was on Jack’s side. Jack disagreed, since Billy wouldn’t drop this subject. Billy wanted one good reason why he should have to drop the subject. “Because it might harm my grandson!,” Jack blurted out.

Jack told Lily and Billy the whole story. Jack didn’t want Billy to forget the most important part – Harrison was Billy’s family, and he had a moral obligation to look out out for him. Billy swore he’d never hurt the child, but Ashland on the other hand… Jack said publishing any part of this story would harm an innocent child and infuriate Ashland. Billy wondered if there was something ChancComm could do for the Abbott’s cause, but Lily thought Jack made it clear that they shouldn’t go near this story. Jack agreed with Lily. He said that Kyle had a lot on his plate and there was a lot of uncertainty. Billy asked if Ashland was going for full custody or if Tara was going to take Ashland for everything he had. “What part of ‘uncertainty did you not understand?’” Jack snapped. “I didn’t know, alright?,” Billy replied. Lily tried to smooth things over, but Jack was fed up and left. Lily asked Billy if he was happy now.

After Jack left, Lily learned that Billy intended to write a story about Ashland discovering the affair. She reminded him that they just promised not to do that, and she said it could hurt Kyle, Harrison and Summer. He stated that this sort of news didn’t stay quiet for long, but she countered that they didn’t have to be the ones to break it. She told him they were dropping this, and she waited for him to agree. He reluctantly agreed and she went upstairs.

Tara came downstairs and saw Jack sitting in the living room. He realized he would’ve been better off staying her and having mac n’ cheese with Harrison. They talked about how it was Kyle’s favorite as a kid too. She said it must be the genes, and he agreed that family was a powerful thing. He asked why family could get under your skin like no one else could. She said whoever figured that out should get a Nobel. He asked about her family. She had an estranged brother who was somewhere in Virginia, that was why she was so grateful for Jack’s hospitality. He said she and Harrison were ideal guests, and he loved hearing the sound of a little boy’s feet in the hallway when he woke up. He said the house was finally coming back to life. She hoped he could stand them staying a little longer.
