Jack ran into Summer at Crimson Lights. She had tears in her eyes, and she was fiddling with the toy submarine she bought Harrison. He approached her, and she said she couldn’t fake smiling anymore. She really was happy for Kyle – how could she not be when she saw how enthralled he was by Harrison. She talked about seeing them in the park together and the way Kyle’s face lit up when Harrison called him daddy. Then Tara called them over for ice cream, and Kyle and Harrison ran over to join her. Summer thought they looked like the prefect little family. She’d pulled herself together and decided to embrace it, because the only other option was to lose Kyle. Jack was relieved Summer still wanted to build a future with his son. Summer said of course she did. She asked if he’d talked to her dad about his suggestion to postpone the wedding. Jack confirmed he’d talked to Nick. She said she talked to Kyle, and they weren’t going to make any concrete plans until they saw how this all shook out. She stressed that she really did think they were meant to be together.
Jack saw Summer and Kyle overcome other obstacles together, and he was convinced they’d overcome this one. He believed that one day, when the time was right, Kyle would have another child - Summer’s, and she’d be an amazing mother. Summer said she and Kyle talked about having kids, but it always seemed so far down the road. She thought one of the reasons it was taking her time to wrap her head around this is that becoming a daddy overnight seemed to come so naturally to Kyle. Jack knew the feeling – suddenly he was grandpa to a kid he never met, but when he met Harrison, there was an unmistakable bond. She guessed he’d be happy to know Tara had decided to stay in Genoa City. He didn’t know Tara decided to stay, and though he knew it complicated Summer’s life, he was happy about it. He told her it was a gift to watch a child grow up. He missed so many important moments in Kyle’s life, and selfishly, he didn’t want to lose those years in Harrison’s life. He thought she might feel the same way one day. He picked up the toy she bought and said she’d already made the biggest step – she was already committed. He stated that kids had a way of grabbing a hold of your heart. She thanked him for the talk, and he said she’d had a special place in her heart since the day she was born.
Jack ran into Sally as he was leaving. She was glad to see him, but he coolly wished her a good afternoon and kept walking. Summer thought Sally realized how badly she blew it. Sally didn’t need a reminder about how massively she screwed up with Jack, though she thought Summer enjoyed seeing him blow her off. She assumed it was a nice break from what Summer was going through. Sally asked Summer to stop dropping hints to Lauren about the fashion house gig. Summer just thought Sally wanted Lauren to know she was looking for another job. Sally said it was a long shot – a coveted position at an important fashion house, and a lot of people, who were more connected than her, were going to apply. Sally said Lauren had been good to her, and she didn’t want Sally and Summer to fight, so Sally didn’t want to let her down. Sally talked about how much she wanted the job, and Summer asked what Sally was really up to.
Sally said she was just trying to move on with her life and get somewhere in her career. She wouldn’t apologize for having dreams – nothing would be handed to her. Summer had been wondering how Ashland found out Tara and Harrison were at Jack’s, and that seemed like something Sally would do to stir up trouble. Sally said that was a crappy thing to say. Summer told Sally not to pretend she wouldn’t stoop that low after sending Tara and Harrison to the engagement party. She said first, Sally used a child’s existence to blackmail Kyle, then she ratted out the child’s location. Sally accused Summer of wanting to blame her for every bad thing that happened. She said Summer should be glad she was trying to get this Italian gig and leave town because she was tired of being Summer’s punching bag.
Sally was alone on the patio talking with her grandma on video. She griped that her life was falling apart and Summer was enjoying every second of it. She talked again about Jack and how she didn’t just like him because of the money or status, like everyone assumed she did. She said the local royalty never had to fight for anything. They made her sick, and she felt beaten down. Shirley told Sally to remember she was a Spectra who was just as talented and capable as the pretenders in the boonies. She said the only thing Summer had that Sally didn’t was confidence. Sally felt better. She said she was going to get Summer to Italy and out of her way, and if Ashland wasn’t going to help her, she’d go to plan B.
At the Abbott house, Kyle told Ashland that if he wanted to communicate with Tara, he should have his lawyer call hers. Ashland told Tara that he didn’t want to fight. Kyle had firsthand knowledge of the way Ashland acted when he felt aggrieved – when he only suspected there had been an affair. Ashland said Kyle had no business interfering, and Kyle countered that Ashland was in his family home. Tara was willing to listen to Ashland, and she asked Kyle to watch Harrison while they went to talk. She and Ashland left.
Tara and Ashland went to Society. He asked if she was in love with Kyle. She said no. He asked if she was in love with Kyle during that summer in the Hamptons. Tara felt like Ashland stopped being loving and attentive after they got married. She said he focused on work, and she felt alone and isolated. He protested that he gave her everything. “Except yourself,” she replied. She didn’t want for material things, but underneath all that, it was just empty. She knew it was hard to hear, and it was hard for her to admit, but she would if he wanted to know. He did. It was party season, and he was away, so she entertained a lot, just to have people around. Kyle saw through her perfect host act and he understood. It had been so long since someone talked to her like she mattered. She wasn’t proud of it. Ashland said what Tara shouldn’t be proud of was letting him live a lie and letting him fall in love with a child who wasn’t his. She said he raised Harrison and Harrison loved him. She said she apologized and promised to stay to make it work, but he was the one who refused to even try. He was going to make her a deal – it was the only one he’d make and the only time he’d offer it.
Kyle had Harrison downstairs, and they were playing on his tablet. “Are Mommy and Father mad at each other?” Harrison suddenly asked. Kyle explained that sometimes people got mad at each other, even people who liked each other. Kyle assured Harrison that Ashland and Tara would always love him, no matter what. Jack came home, and he took Harrison to the kitchen for cookies. Tara came back. Ashland had agreed to shared custody on the condition that she cut Kyle out of Harrison’s life for good. Jack returned, and he was outraged about Ashland’s proposal. He said Ashland was acting like he was guaranteed to get full custody in court, and that wasn’t true. Tara said Ashland had lots of friends who were judges. Jack said Harrison was an Abbott, and the family would stand by him, and the Abbotts had the power and clout to stand up to Ashland. Tara had to call her lawyer. Ashland was only giving her 24 hours to make up her mind. Kyle was stunned she was considering cutting him out of Harrison’s life. She wasn’t sure what else to think – her attorney had concerns. She said Harrison was a child of adultery, and Ashland had been a wonderful father, meanwhile, Kyle knew about Harrison for months, and he never made a move to prove he was prove he was the biological father until she asked him to. “Biological. I want to be so much more to him and you know that’s true,” Kyle said. Tara thought Kyle was a good man, but he’d only known Harrison for a few days, while Ashland had been there for him. Kyle countered that Tara said Ashland’s main priority was business. She said Ashland traveled for work, but he was still a loving father, and he and Harrison adored each other. She had to be smart, because she refused to lose her son. She went to be with Harrison. Kyle was going after her, but Jack said she needed time to calm down and see that – Jack didn’t get a chance to say the rest, because Kyle left. Kyle met Summer at the hotel and told her about Ashland’s ultimatum. Kyle was unwilling to get cut out of his son’s life, not after he’d met Harrison and now that Harrison knew he was his father.
At the park, Victor wished Nikki good morning. Smiling, she asked how he found her. He knew she always carved out a special time for Katherine. Nikki had just come from visiting the plaque, and the roses she planted last year were starting to bloom. He told her he’d just had twelve apricot roses delivered to the house. He also had a gift for her. She was surprised to find a book she already owned - Prokofiev’s biography. He told her that it was her copy of the book, and he told her to open it. Inside she found tickets to a concert in Florence. He said they’d see Leslie Brooks perform Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto Number 3. She said she couldn’t be more thrilled.
Victor gave Nikki some chocolates flown in from Italy and a portrait of a horse. She admired the stallion, and he said his name was Concerto, and he was waiting for Nikki in the stables. She told him he’d outdone himself. There was were flashbacks to Nikki and Victor’s romance over the years. In the present, Nikki told Victor that she’d lived the most incredible life. He asked her to come home with him because there was more to come. Sempre, amore mio. She touched his cheek and said she loved him.
At her suite, Amanda told Devon that according to the PI, Richard was only looking for one child, the one sent to foster care. That was Amanda. She said her dad quit his job and made looking for her the focus of his life. He was trying to find her when he was killed, and she was left looking for answers. Her whole life seemed different now. She said she never belonged to anyone – other kids had families, and she had guardians. Now she knew her father rearranged his life to find her. Richard told the PI everything he could about Naya, and the PI used that to track down the foster parents. When Amanda found out about this, part of her just shattered and blew into the wind. It hurt her knowing how close he got to claiming her.
Devon asked how this would change her approach to Sutton’s case, and she said it didn’t fundamentally change it. Devon didn’t understand how that could be, now that Amanda knew Richard didn’t approach Victor about bribery or blackmail. Amanda said Imani spoke to Sutton about this, and he was adamant that he didn’t want Naya’s history to come into the trial, so the Victor angle was still her best option. Amanda said that Richard may have been blackmailing someone else at Newman, and that other party may have assumed that Richard went to Victor about the bribery scheme and panicked. All she had to do was prove reasonable doubt, and she was sure she could do it. He was sure she could, but he didn’t understand why she’d do that. He said that Sutton was stepping in and making her job more difficult than it had to be.
Devon said when Amanda took the case on, she was all about being objective and treating Sutton as a normal client. She felt she still was, but he didn’t think so. He didn’t think it’d be possible for anyone to treat it like a normal case in this instance. She was sure she was dealing with Sutton as she would with any other client. He was saying this because he didn’t want her to feel backed into a corner because she felt the need to prove herself to Sutton or anyone else in her newfound family. She asked if he really thought that was the reason she took the case. He thought she took the case because she wanted to know more about where she came from, but when family was involved, things got messy. Naya and Imani showed up wanting to discuss a personal matter. Imani asked if they were interrupting, and Amanda said no. Devon left. Naya wanted to apologize because things got so tense last time they spoke. It was hard to hear that Richard found out about the pregnancy and equally hard when Amanda asked if Naya had been lying. Imani thought Amanda’s question had been unfair. However, Naya understood why Amanda needed to know if Naya ever had further contact with Richard. She acknowledged it was Amanda’s job to ask the tough questions. Naya said she never told Richard she was carrying his child, and she couldn’t imagine who would’ve. She wondered if it could’ve been Rose.
Amanda was sure Rose wasn’t involved, since Richard only knew about one child – Amanda. The PI also said that Richard told her Naya was the mother and that he tried and failed to contact her. Naya admitted it was true that she avoided Richard. Amanda revealed that the PI found her foster family – her father came that close to finding her. It broke Naya’s heart that Richard learned so much, but he wasn’t able to meet Amanda before he was killed. However, Naya noted that Sutton was in the fight for his life, and the Ames family was real, alive and here for Amanda. “We need to be your focus now,” Naya stated. Amanda agreed that focusing on what could’ve been was distracting her from what she needed to be doing now.
Devon was downstairs on a business call when Naya walked up. His call ended, and she asked how close he was to Amanda. He said they were good friends. She assumed that must be why Amanda confided in him about their family. He assured her he’d never divulge what Amanda shared with him. Naya said it didn’t take her long to see what a smart strong person Amanda was. It was why she asked Amanda to defend Sutton. Now, some unsettling information had come to light that she thought could be overwhelming, and Naya was worried about Amanda. Devon was too, and in fact, he thought it may be a mistake for Amanda to take the case.
Amanda was crying alone in her room when Imani returned to say she was sorry for what Amanda was going through. She also revealed that she booked a room here at the hotel, so she’d be close by while they prepared for the trial. Amanda said it was a big change for Imani to be away from Naya and Sutton. Imani said it was only temporary, plus hopefully it’d give her a chance to earn Amanda’s trust.
